Has anyone had a labour that's just not that painful?

I am having regular contractions, 15ish minutes apart (but closest together only 2 apart!), but... they're just not that painful! I know I have quite a high pain threshold and these definitely aren't BH, but not sure what to do at this point. Just wait until they're intolerable and then start thinking about the hospital? For various reasons I'd rather not have a homebirth... (difficult last labour with OP baby, parents are docs and violently opposed so although personally I love the idea don't want to stress them out...)

Aw Scampers!!

No, don't go to bed, you might miss the whole thing!

Good luck pet. This is the best live labour thread I've seen since I've been here. Including my own!

I was coping with my contractions with DD25 mins apart - decided to have a bath. Think my waters must have broken in the bath because suddenly found them HARD to cope with. My mum had to help me get dressed, phoned DP to come back from walking the dog and take me to hospital 10 mins away. Only just got there in time.
Have a bath, have a bath!!
Good luck

lol, both my labours went on like this for 18 hours until i got annoyed, went to hospital and a lovely midwife took a hook to my waters and burst them.

had both babies within 2 hours of them doing that.

try and relax for now, even try and lie down and doze. lots of hot showers and walking and head to the hospital when the have about 1-2 mins between them and last 1 min or more

nkf · 19/04/2008 22:20

They none of them hurt - in retrospect.

OK, I haven't gone, I've gone to bed. Am going to try and doze whilst DH monitors contractions via hand on tummy. He just said 'are you having one now?' and I said 'yes, no, dunno, boo hoo' and he said 'yes you are, it's gone rock hard, you're totally having a contraction' so we've decided to do that for a bit.

Promise I will post before I go to hospital!

Thank you so much, ladies, you've been indispensable. And it's not over yet...

night scampmum - been lurking and sending birthy thoughts.. but thought I'd come out now and wish you a restful night and eventful (but relatively pain-free) day tomorrow!

3andnomore · 19/04/2008 22:55

To OP...
with my ms I had a wonderful, almost relaxingly, mild painfree labour....well...until I got to 9 cm and then they broke my waters...that was where suddenly i turned into something from the Exorcist....

you menation your previous child was OP, which caused problems....well....my last was OP in labour, and blardy hell did I know it....if I had him first instead of last, he would be an only child....
first child was born in OP position, but I think he wasn't op in labour, but turned around when tehy broke my waters and I was already fully dilated (to much space for him to turn, basically, as as soon as they had broken the water his heartbeat went down, suddenly....so, that is why I think the waterbreaking was to blame in that instance)

sphil · 19/04/2008 23:04

Scampmum - just to say I had very similar experience with DS2. Was at a dinner party, having regular but non-painful contractions about 15 mins apart. Every time I said 'I think I might be in labour' one of my friends said 'Are you in pain? No? Well shut up then' Went home at 10pm, woke at 4 with contractions closer together but still not painful. Same symptoms of irritability as you describe. Got to hospital at 6am, waters broke in car park, got to labour ward apologising to MW for coming in too early, she tells me I'm 10 cms and DS2 born an hour later. Honestly only painful during pushing stage. So don't leave it too long...

OK, still here, don't think I will be going to sleep. Been 13, 11, 6, 11, 7 minutes apart and all approximately 40 seconds, that's lying down completely relaxed. I just wanted to know it was real, I guess! DH recommending I now get up and get active which I think I will, although tbh I am quite enjoying just lying here! Contractions still not painful, but they are definitely there, monitored by DH as well as me. So surprised it's such a drawn out affair - as my April thread buddies can attest I have been really paranoid about 20 minute labours and births in cars!

Thanks so much for all your stories - sphil that does sound very similar - I think if my early contractions had been four or five hours later I could easily have slept through the ones I've had since then.

Scrapmum - I have 3 month old DD and she never hurt at all until the pushing and they found she was wrong way. I had her in Emergency C Section in the end BUT I did spend the whole labour and 1 and 1/2 hrs pushing which was fine (NO PAIN RELIEF at all, if I can cope so can you.

GOOD LUCK
