Did you get an upset tummy (the shits) before labour?

If so, how long before? I asked in a post in the early hours as I was having weird period cramps. I spoke to the midwife and she said to just keep an eye on it and to ring triage if anything changes (reduced movement, water breaking, bleeding ect) but she thinks it’s baby engaging rather than contractions. Makes sense!

However now I’m back and forth the toilet like no tomorrow.. sometimes needing to run Blush! I knew having a upset tummy can be a sign of impending labour but when I’ve googled it says 24-48 hours before, I thought it may have been a week or two! Grin

So looking for experiences, did you get a dodgey tum before labour? If so how long before?!

No.

Lubeyboobyalt · 28/02/2022 15:20

yes, my waters had broken but it was just a trickle due to dd's head blocking the flow, so I wasn't sure if it was waters or pee

I went to the loo in case it was pee, and then had watery diarhoea for about an hour

went to hospital after that and dd was born 8 hours later

PotatoGoblins · 28/02/2022 15:22

Yes I did all 3 times! Around 48hrs beforehand

NameChangeCity123 · 28/02/2022 15:31

Yes. Around 14 hours before my son arrived

HariboMaroon · 28/02/2022 15:35

LOL at the title 😂.

I did yes.

Pinchofnom · 28/02/2022 15:39

I did. Around 8 hours before my DC made their appearances. I was glad to have an empty bowel prior to pushing!

LouisaLovesMice · 28/02/2022 15:40

Contractions were two minutes apart before I got the runs Grin

HistoricMoment · 28/02/2022 15:40

Yes, twice, started a day and a half before birth.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 28/02/2022 15:42

Yes, about 24-48 hours with both babies.

Unpleasant but meant I didn’t shit myself during labour. Silver linings.

Keep us updated!

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 28/02/2022 15:42

Yeah I did, was when I was having contractions probably about 8 hours after they started. It was not fun having awful contractions and the shits in between. To be honest though I did have a very very hot chilli the night before so it could've been abit of chilli bum 😆

1winterblues · 28/02/2022 15:43

I did but I think it was just nerves and I was so worried about labour Blush

JemimaTiggywinkle · 28/02/2022 15:43

Yep. Contractions started at 8pm, shits all night (and vomitting). Went into hospital at 8am the next morning - baby born at 8pm.

LightSpeeds · 28/02/2022 15:45

Yep, a few hours before; it's your body's way of clearing out the poop tubes before labour!!

KickinTheRibs · 28/02/2022 15:53

Thanks all! Sounds like my body’s just trying to get ready. I’ve only just passed 36 weeks so wouldn’t mind him cooking until the weekend really. But midwife didn’t seem very concerned if it was labour, my first was delivered at 37 weeks but was a c-section so will be interesting to see if I do go early with this baby!

Yes! Day before. She was born at 2am.

Justkeeppedaling · 28/02/2022 18:30

I did too.
Better than pooing on the birthing table Grin

Bluelillies · 28/02/2022 18:34

Yes-only problem was it was at the pushing stage
One of mine was born in a (small) shower of shite-literally
I did have dodgy bowels about an hour before (and a show) and thought that would be it-nope,my body hung onto a tiny bit-I didn’t really care to be honest-i was that past caring, the bloke flogging newspapers outside could have come in for a gawk and I wouldn’t have cared

Zebra100 · 28/02/2022 18:55

good old clear out about 12 hours before delivery for each of my 4 babies.1st one was born in the 80's and midwife insisted I had an enema!

Strokethefurrywall · 28/02/2022 18:59

Yep, had a massive clear out at around 3am, waters broke at 11am and the baby arrived a few hours later.

Was the case for DS1 but not DS2.

passionfruitpizza · 28/02/2022 19:21

No I was insanely constipated both times.

bookish83 · 28/02/2022 19:23

Yes the day before and first (slow) day if contractions

Longdistance · 28/02/2022 19:46

The MW wanted to do a sweep. I refused as I had the shits. It was a Friday, dd2 was born the Sunday.
I had constipation with dd1 Blush

DockOTheBay · 28/02/2022 19:57

First time, yes, the night before.
Second time, no

QueenLagertha · 28/02/2022 21:11

Yep I did. Loose bowels and the diarrhoea started a couple of days before. I vomited up my dinner too the day before labour started. Thought I was coming down with a bug. Got the shits again during labour. At least I was empty for pushing I suppose.

TokenGinger · 28/02/2022 21:15

Yep! Once my waters had gone, I was on the toilet at least 5 times. It's a wonder I didn't poop him out. I don't know how there was anything left inside me!
