Did you get an upset tummy (the shits) before labour?

If so, how long before? I asked in a post in the early hours as I was having weird period cramps. I spoke to the midwife and she said to just keep an eye on it and to ring triage if anything changes (reduced movement, water breaking, bleeding ect) but she thinks it’s baby engaging rather than contractions. Makes sense!

However now I’m back and forth the toilet like no tomorrow.. sometimes needing to run Blush! I knew having a upset tummy can be a sign of impending labour but when I’ve googled it says 24-48 hours before, I thought it may have been a week or two! Grin

So looking for experiences, did you get a dodgey tum before labour? If so how long before?!

Yep. No prior contractions, waters broke, spend an hour having 5 min apart contractions and feeling like the world was falling out of my arse. I had her 3 hours later.

Had contractions but not too horrendous Yep! About 4am had to go to the loo about 7 times. Contractions started straight after that 3 mins apart. Half 5 waters broke and he was here at 06:39 hah x

I did a week before my due date, got so excited thinking it was the baby but I ended up being induced 12 days over!

That sounds more like covid op...

Soontobe60 · 03/03/2022 20:06

Oh yes! And during!!!

Wbeezer · 03/03/2022 20:09

Yes all the time, enough to get a wee bit dehydrated.

optimistic40 · 03/03/2022 20:52

Yes! It was right before, really. I got up with a weird stomach and then struggled to go back to sleep and contractions started within a couple of hours.

pradavilla · 03/03/2022 20:58

Not with either no.

@Koala817263549 funny you say that as I has a nasty cold before the sinus infection arrived that longer for a good while but we’ve been testing regularly and have been negative.. I was sure I’d be positive with how I felt!

Yes started the night before i gave birth
I thought I just had tummy cramps from needing the toilet but it was early labour
Needed the toilet about 4 times over night
Baby born at 6.27pm the next day

Yes! But I get like that too when I’m anxious or nervous so maybe that played a part too. My waters broke - I was asleep and had no contractions that I was aware of before then - and then I got the shits. That lasted about an hour or so. DD arrived 4 hours later.

@KickinTheRibs there seem to be a few nasty bugs around. I hope you feel much better soon!

Yes! Day before. She was born at 2am.

did you have any other symptoms too?

SingingSands · 18/12/2023 20:09

Yes, but during labour, not before. Spent most of my four hour labour on the toilet 😂
