Did you get an upset tummy (the shits) before labour?

If so, how long before? I asked in a post in the early hours as I was having weird period cramps. I spoke to the midwife and she said to just keep an eye on it and to ring triage if anything changes (reduced movement, water breaking, bleeding ect) but she thinks it’s baby engaging rather than contractions. Makes sense!

However now I’m back and forth the toilet like no tomorrow.. sometimes needing to run Blush! I knew having a upset tummy can be a sign of impending labour but when I’ve googled it says 24-48 hours before, I thought it may have been a week or two! Grin

So looking for experiences, did you get a dodgey tum before labour? If so how long before?!

Yes, about 48hrs before. 2nd baby. 8 thought I was in labour as I was overdue, but then had the shits. Had called the poor midwife out as well! Didn't happen with my other two though.

BertieBotts · 28/02/2022 21:19

With the third one. I was shitting all day Hmm

Nettletea0 · 01/03/2022 10:16

Both times no.

notmelurking · 01/03/2022 11:58

Yes. I am normally constipated anyway before pregnancy that got worse being pregnant. 8 o clock at night I got the urge to go to the toilet " tmi, but it was just watery diarrhoea " I knew something wasn't right. 4 hours later at 12 my waters broke

bluebell34567 · 01/03/2022 12:07

i did. 10-12 hrs before.

looklikeanelephant · 01/03/2022 12:10

The morning of my labour, I had a bad upset stomach for a couple of hours 6-8amish and baby was born 2.40pm :)

springbaby22 · 01/03/2022 18:27

@KickinTheRibs

Thanks all! Sounds like my body’s just trying to get ready. I’ve only just passed 36 weeks so wouldn’t mind him cooking until the weekend really. But midwife didn’t seem very concerned if it was labour, my first was delivered at 37 weeks but was a c-section so will be interesting to see if I do go early with this baby!
I'm actually experiencing this with dc3 but 36 weeks today so would prefer an extra week. My other had diarrhoea at onset of labour. Was it worth calling triage do you think? Random contractions coming too.
clarepetal · 01/03/2022 18:37

Yes! Although I did most mornings when I was pregnant to be fair

Trinacham · 01/03/2022 18:38

No

Cotswoldmama · 01/03/2022 18:40

Nope very constipated!

Aubree17 · 01/03/2022 19:36

With DC1 yes. Cleared everything out.

Not so lucky with DC2... everything was cleared out in the delivery room 😳

Hope for the former!

Fallstar · 01/03/2022 19:40

No. And the inevitable happened. Both times.

BrutusMcDogface · 01/03/2022 19:43

Yes, I did. Along with bloody shows and mucous plugs etc; nice!

BrutusMcDogface · 01/03/2022 19:46

Sorry- it was when the first random contractions arrived, so up to 48 hours before baby came.

WhileMyMeringueGentlyWeeps · 01/03/2022 19:47

Yes.
It's A Sign.
Get all ready OP

DarkCorner · 01/03/2022 19:49

Yes with baby 1 (2 was induced) - 9am shits, labour started 5pm ish and baby born 5 am the next day so all happened within 24hrs. Good luck!

fuckfuckfuck2021 · 01/03/2022 20:34

I did but I was already in early labour every time!

daisyducky · 01/03/2022 21:03

I wish. I was massively constipated which continued after he birth

Sapphireskies · 01/03/2022 22:02

Just to say good luck sounds like it is happening sooner rather than later

ThatPosterIsSoRight · 01/03/2022 22:04

Unfortunately not. Baby was therefore preceded by a poo. DH still thinks it’s hilarious 10 years later Hmm

Hope all goes well

FindingMeno · 01/03/2022 22:08

No runs but I did puke a few hours before labour started.

ShineTogether · 01/03/2022 22:16

Yes, massive dump completely emptied bowels, then was holding baby within 1-2 hours.
Apparently you shouldn't do the shit in the loo in case the baby comes out and drops in the bowl. I did not have time for these logistics, I was not prepared to shit all over myself and the triage room floor. Used the loo, got told off by midwife, it was all fine in the end

123feraverto · 02/03/2022 21:01

Yep that started about 10/10:30pm just as I was getting into bed

Contractions were 3 minutes apart before midnight

baby born 2:26am

Nepenthe · 02/03/2022 21:11

Yes, with the first one. As soon as my waters broke, all of my insides turned to water, and my contractions went to 5 minutes. I couldn't even get off the loo long enough to tell DH my waters had gone, and I was genuinely worried that I was going to give birth on the toilet. Luckily it abated when there was literally nothing left inside me, and DD was born two hours later.

KickinTheRibs · 03/03/2022 19:48

Thanks all! Grin no baby yet, did have the runs for a good couple of day though, followed by an awful sinus infection. I am getting lightening crotch every bloody 5 minutes of the day now that making me look a right Wally out and about when I’m gasping in shock 🤣

Hopefully it won’t be too long! My ribs kill..
