Hi,

I'm just curious how long you stayed in hospital for after having your first child? I'm due my first in less than 11 weeks and the realisation of giving birth and staying in hospital is starting to hit me a little bit Smile x

I had an emergency c section and stayed in 27 hours. I could not wait to get home.
The earliest my hospital would let anyone go home was 4 hours after a normal ‘no drama’ delivery.
Ask your hospital when you go to look round, they will be able to tell you the earliest you can leave. Wishing you all the best for the birth 👍

Just one after the birth and like PPs I couldn’t wait to get home so I was very pleased with that.

Oliack1417 · 30/03/2020 22:24

Had him at 2am, home before lunchtime..

ChanklyBore · 30/03/2020 22:24

Never went to the hospital.

Peanut55 · 30/03/2020 22:25

Same as @Thescrewinthetuna. I had an EMCS after 34 hours of labour. Got to 9.5cm too. The stay after was worse than labour. I begged to go home after the first night but they were dead against it.

Btw. ABSOLUTELY Love your name. Me and my DH often reference this.

I was in a supermarket being dramatic once with my DH

"I dropped the screw" and a voice from the other aisle "in the tuna!!" It was a stranger.

GetTheSprinkles · 30/03/2020 22:25

EMCS 6am Mon, out 5pm Tues. It honestly felt like I was there for a week: Loud, bright, too hot, no sleep at all. I was SO happy to leave.

HoffiCoffi13 · 30/03/2020 22:26

4 hours. Born at 4.15pm, eating an Indian takeaway at time by 9pm!

BammBamm · 30/03/2020 22:27

2 and a half weeks with my first. 3.5 days with my second.

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 30/03/2020 22:27

3 nights as DC needed antibiotics. Then readmitted later that week for a night for feeding difficulties/weight loss. Not a fun first week!

Marmite27 · 30/03/2020 22:28

24h bit only because I went home after my waters had broken. They went tv style 36 hours before I gave birth.

Marmite27 · 30/03/2020 22:29

But 14 days with my second. It’s not something you can predict. Right now, I’d say they’d want healthy mums and babies home ASAP.

Scruffyoak · 30/03/2020 22:29

4 days at a birthing centre and loved it!

LadySlipper11 · 30/03/2020 22:31

Got to hospital at 5.45am, baby arrived at 10am, we left at 8pm the same day. I was so lucky, very straightforward with no complications!

7dayslater · 30/03/2020 22:31

A few hours.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 30/03/2020 22:32

Went in at 3 in the morning after my waters broke and contractions kicked off big time. DS1 was delivered at 5pm that evening

20viona · 30/03/2020 22:32

I was induced went in at 2.30am sunday morning and gave birth at 11.50pm that evening. I left Tuesday lunch time husband stayed the whole time.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 30/03/2020 22:32

I was home for lunch the next day

happytoday73 · 30/03/2020 22:33

Went in thursday morning after being up all night, delivered 6am Friday and kept in overnight... Released Sat afternoon. 1 overnight stay for first seemed to be standard practice. That first night baby slept well...or I was too exhausted to hear... Really didn't afterwards...
My hospital was also 4 hours earliest to 'escape' if no issues.

BillyAndTheSillies · 30/03/2020 22:37

One night before and two nights after.
Was admitted at 8am for induction, laboured through the day and night, had DS1 at 11:40am the next day.
Kept on an antibiotics drip because my waters had been gone for 24 hours before I was induced. DS showed signs of infection and spend a few hours in SCBU being monitored so they kept us for another 24 hours under observation. Thankfully in a private room.

Greenandpleasanter · 30/03/2020 22:37

I was out within twenty four hours. If I'd had a bit more confidence and experience with babies I'd have been out sooner as there was hardly any food, zero support and I hated it. What was even more irritating was they all stood by the midwives station chatting rather than helping new mothers.

I was happy with the care provided for the birth. And glad I was in hospital as I had an epidural but the aftercare was shit and I'd definitely have left earlier if I'd known more what I was doing. With my second I was out the door by lunchtime having given birth at midnight. So lovely to be home.

Nat6999 · 30/03/2020 22:45

7 days in total, nearly 3 being induced, emcs, 2 nights in high dependency with HELLP, 2 nights on post natal, had pre eclampsia & my bp refused to go down, discharged myself in the end before I totally lost my mind.

CeibaTree · 30/03/2020 22:48

Went in to be induced on a tuesday evening, had an emergency c-section on the friday, and went home on the monday - so quite a while!

TumbleBingQuack · 30/03/2020 22:53

Was in hospital in labour for 4 hours until I gave birth, and 5 days afterwards.

I had a 4th degree tear that needed repairing, then DD had jaundice. With hindsight, I'm glad we stayed. The stronger painkillers I was allowed at the hospital enabled me to move about and care for DD properly, she wouldn't latch properly so they helped with that, and we were in a private room so in a lovely brand-new-family bubble.

DramaAlpaca · 30/03/2020 22:56

Had him early hours of Thursday morning, home Saturday lunchtime.

demelzaaa · 30/03/2020 22:57

4 days after an emergency Caesar.
