Hi,

I'm just curious how long you stayed in hospital for after having your first child? I'm due my first in less than 11 weeks and the realisation of giving birth and staying in hospital is starting to hit me a little bit Smile x

10 days first baby, 7 days second one.
That was the norm in 1979 and 1981, 2 weeks if you had a CS.
My maternity unit was lovely, peaceful and you were really well looked after.

Had DC1 at 4.30am, was home by 3pm.

okiedokieme · 31/03/2020 13:59

12 hours, you don't want to be there longer than necessary!

NastyOldBag · 31/03/2020 14:00

4 hours with dc1, 3 days with dc2

Somewhere between 7-10 days (it was nearly 16 years ago and I can't remember)
He has a weird rash so they kept us in until it had gone.

A week but i had a pph, 3dt, an infection, tachycardia and suspected blood clot. I was in HDU for 6 days and on the postnatal ward for 1, then begged to be allowed home because it was so bloody hot in there! My second I had an elective c section and was home the next day.

Starting to wonder if i should have gone for an ELCS not a VBAC to get out quicker Confused

12 hours. DD was born at 10 am and we released at 10 pm. Would have been sooner but they were waiting for me to wee more than a certain amount.

NameChange30 · 31/03/2020 14:35

It depends on your birth and how you and the baby are afterwards. If it's straightforward and you're both well you'll be able to go home the same day. Otherwise it's kind of how long is a piece of string, isn't it?!

I had to stay in because of PPH (following shoulder dystocia) and then I got an infection so I was put on IV antibiotics. I was finally discharged at the end of the third day. DS was fine!

Had my first in 1975 you had no choice but to stay in for 8 days then. Smoking lounge down the hall way too [ I didn't smoke, but it was socially acceptable then ]. Very strict visiting times. We were taught everything about looking after a baby, feeding, changing, bathing etc.

3 days with my first- I had a Haemorrhage.

Came home the next day with my second. Had her at 6pm, was home by 6pm the next day

HerMajBishop · 31/03/2020 14:42

4 nights from baby being born. Emergency c-section and blood transfusion, so they wanted to keep an eye on me.

Disneydarlings · 31/03/2020 14:46

9 days. Emergency c section baby born at 35 weeks with group b strep. Not a happy time at the time but all well DS is a healthy 15 year old now.

IceKitten · 31/03/2020 14:47

24 hours

owlalwaysloveyou · 31/03/2020 14:49

Last year. Vaginal birth, 2nd degree tear but needed checked repeatedly to ensure it wasn't 3rd, no epidural/catheter/other intervention. Delivered at 8pm. Was told i could go home first thing in morning but was waiting for someone to be available to go through the paperwork so was around 3pm next day before we left i think.

OldEvilOwl · 31/03/2020 14:52

Out the same day with both of mine

AgnesNaismith · 31/03/2020 14:53

7 hours

MissBax · 31/03/2020 15:03

About 10 days in total but that was being readmitted twice due to a post dural puncture (vile)!

sofiathe2nd · 31/03/2020 15:05

12 hours overnight after long delivery with epidural, catheter and ventouse

AlunWynsKnee · 31/03/2020 15:05

8 hours after dd's birth. I really didn't want to spend a night there. The midwives were worried DH was pressuring me to leave so discreetly checked that (good) but it was me who wanted to go. Everything was fine with dd and I so off we went.
Not so lucky with the next one and post natal was awful.

Ribeebie · 31/03/2020 15:09

8 hours in total - went home just under 4 hours after DS was born.

HavelockVetinari · 31/03/2020 15:14

6 nights before, 4 nights after. I hated hospital - impossible to sleep well, far too hot, noisy inconsiderate visitors and awful food.

Babdoc · 31/03/2020 15:29

Delivered at 2 in the morning, went home mid morning. Only waited that long so the paediatrician could do the first day baby check.
I didn't fancy hospital food, and MIL (excellent cook) was already on the train coming up from England to cook for me!
