Hi,

I'm just curious how long you stayed in hospital for after having your first child? I'm due my first in less than 11 weeks and the realisation of giving birth and staying in hospital is starting to hit me a little bit Smile x

Planned section. 3 nights, mostly because they didnt tell me until day 4 that I should be walking around and they wouldn't send me home until they saw me moving enough.

Dd2 was an emergency section, had her 8am and went home 5pm the next day because I knew to get moving as soon as possible that time!

Catscrat · 30/03/2020 23:07

4 nights (not including the night I went in) - forceps delivery, severe PPH and feeding problems! I was climbing the walls by the end.

mumma2b2020 · 31/03/2020 03:40

I had 3rd degree tear and as I had gestational diabetes during pregnancy they had to keep me and DD in for 24 hours afterwards to monitor her blood sugar levels as well as ensure I was well enough before sending us home x

ofwarren · 31/03/2020 03:48

6 days with my first
9 MONTHS with my second
4 days with my third

DorotheaHomeAlone · 31/03/2020 03:58

Went in for induction on Saturday morning, emcs early on Sunday morning, home early afternoon on Monday. I’ve had two elcs since then and been home next day each time. Good luck!

SnowsInWater · 31/03/2020 04:14

Two nights with my first as it was a long labour and I had a post partum haemorrhage. Five hours with my third (second was a home birth). I would imagine at the moment you will be out ASAP unless there are complications.

grisen · 31/03/2020 04:18

EMCS and got home less than 24 hours after the birth.

Dyra · 31/03/2020 08:17

Before baby was born? 1 week (I had PET. 6 days antenatal ward, 1 day labour ward)

After baby was born? 2 days. The first 24 hours were to monitor baby and I. I think the second 24 hours were to make absolutely sure since we were both fine.

LillianFullStop · 31/03/2020 11:45

5 nights with DD as she had suspected infection and had to get antibiotics. I wanted to be out after a day!!!

For those staying a month or @ofwarren - 9 MONTHS?! is that due to baby being in NICU?

I would be so so miserable if I had to stay that long esp with DD (3) at home and no one allowed to visit in postnatal wards

ofwarren · 31/03/2020 11:48

@LillianFullStop
My baby was born with bruising so did a month in NICU, then a month on a cancer ward and then transferred to a liver ward and had a liver transplant at 6 months old.
I never went home till he was discharged.

pancakesunday · 31/03/2020 11:52

A week. I would say the worst thing about it was I expected I'd be discharged after a few hours but as someone else said earlier, don't make any plans. The disappointment of not being able to go home after a traumatic birth hit me hard

Lauren83 · 31/03/2020 11:52

EMCS after failed induction and then ELCS, both 24 hours

RoLaren · 31/03/2020 11:53

My first was a two day induced labour, born at 5am, discharged 4pm the same day. I could have gone at lunchtime but for waiting for medication.

My second was an ELCS, in at 7am, born around 11am, discharged after two nights.

My third was a very complicated ELCS due to placenta previa/acreta and she had breathing problems immediately so off to SCBU. We were in three nights, and I was glad of the rest to be honest, with two boisterous toddlers waiting for us at home!

frenchfancy81 · 31/03/2020 11:54

18 days in total...4 before and 14 after. Extremely high BP. Emergency section at 36 weeks. Luckily, he's totally gorgeous in every way!

Iwalkinmyclothing · 31/03/2020 11:59

This was in 2006- I went in on the Monday for induction, had him early Tuesday morning and they let us go home Friday morning. Not sure why they took that long to discharge us tbh. The post natal ward was the main reason I had home births with ds2 and ds3, I never wanted to be stuck somewhere like that again, it was as if it was designed to make it as hard as possible for you to sleep.

LillianFullStop · 31/03/2020 12:38

omg @ofwarren that must have been so difficult - hope he is now doing well and healthy after such a rocky start.

So hard not to make plans though esp with a little one waiting at home. Even with a 5 night stay in a private room I could already feel my mood taking a real dip.

FireandFury · 31/03/2020 12:55

I gave birth at 8.05 and was out by noon on the same day which was way too quick but they were very overstretched. I should say I had a very easy labour.

rottiemum88 · 31/03/2020 13:09

EMCS, home within 24 hours. Was thrilled... only to end up back in on day 4 for a full week when DS developed bronchiolitis Sad

maa1992 · 31/03/2020 13:11

12 hours. Elective C-Section.

I was shocked how quick they discharged me, I almost passed out trying to walk to the car

Jeleste · 31/03/2020 13:31

One night. Baby was born ~6pm and i left the next day before lunch.
I was desperate to go home because i had a shared room with another mother and her baby wouldnt stop crying all night long. At one point the midwife came to get the baby for a bit to let us sleep, but then the mother wouldnt stop snoring Shock
I lived abroad back then and my mum flew over to stay with me for 2 months to help, so it was much easier for me at home to manage. DH was around too, but only got a couple days off.

Second baby i insisted on leaving a coue hours after birth. I wasnt gonna go through another night of hell Grin
Luckily both births went smoothly.

tubbylittletwat · 31/03/2020 13:36

2.5 hours- we had the option of 'Domino' back then. I went in at 5am, had him at roughly 8am, was home eating the mini meringues I had aggressively made the night before by 1030am.

ohmysoul · 31/03/2020 13:41

5 nights in total. 3 beforehand for induction and 2 afterwards, mostly because I had an epidural and a pretty deep episiotomy.

MysteryFrog · 31/03/2020 13:43

One night and most of the next day because I was struggling with breastfeeding
With my second I was in and out within about 8 hours

MichaelBoobins · 31/03/2020 13:44

2 days because I had to have a catheter and also struggled to breast feed

NemophilistRebel · 31/03/2020 13:44

4 nights in total - EMCS and then infection

I hope to be home in 24 hours this time - planned c section
