Is this much bleeding a week after birth normal? Picture warning, TMI

Had pretty normal bleeding so far but 10 minutes after changing my pad, I had this come out at once (so sorry) and wondered if this was normal? I'm anaemic so feel light headed anyway but I feel quite dizzy. I can't get to a hospital tonight as it is, I do have the midwife coming tomorrow so don't want to overreact if it's pretty normal to get this every once in a while after birth? I've had more blood come away since with 'bits' in it but the amount (and smell Shock) has really unnerved me. Is this amount okay? So sorry for the pic but thought it would be the most accurate way to show how much came out in such a small space of time.

Back home now.

Minor infection she said, hence the smell. Still maintained it could've waited until the morning but I got the antibiotics and taken first dose so that's good. Thank you all Smile

I'm glad you're home and you've been treated op, the meds will do their job and hopefully you'll be able to relax a little. Get some sleep if you can (the joy of newborns!) x

RapscallionKat · 29/05/2019 04:32

You did the right thing.

She has no way of predicting how fast that infection could have gone down hill. With a newborn to look after you don't risk it x

Brilliant news OP, the antibiotics should help really quickly.

Yes exactly. Seems a high risk approach that midwife is taking.

Tingface · 29/05/2019 08:15

Sounds like one of the many midwives who seemed to leave their ability to listen to women’s intuition at training college.

Glad you’ve got ABs. Keep an eye on it and try and rest whenever you can.

Heathcliff27 · 29/05/2019 12:31

How you doing today OP?

cakeandchampagne · 29/05/2019 12:47

Please take your antibiotics as directed!
And don’t hesitate to get this checked again if you’re not doing better soon, or are feeling worse!

After having my first born I lost a lot of blood the doctor was kneeding my stomach straight after birth (sore) and more came out I did feel faint but afterwards the bleeding was very light. My second was settled very much like this first night but I gave birth Monday night and picked my oldest daughter from school on the Tuesday evening. And did the school runs every day since. And around day 4 my bleeding got worse my midwife told me I need to rest I wasn’t allowing my womb to settle. Also breastfeeding can be a reason. Hope everything is ok best to get a professional opinion better to be safe. Congratulations also
