Is this much bleeding a week after birth normal? Picture warning, TMI

Had pretty normal bleeding so far but 10 minutes after changing my pad, I had this come out at once (so sorry) and wondered if this was normal? I'm anaemic so feel light headed anyway but I feel quite dizzy. I can't get to a hospital tonight as it is, I do have the midwife coming tomorrow so don't want to overreact if it's pretty normal to get this every once in a while after birth? I've had more blood come away since with 'bits' in it but the amount (and smell Shock) has really unnerved me. Is this amount okay? So sorry for the pic but thought it would be the most accurate way to show how much came out in such a small space of time.

Def 999. You’re not being dramatic, you’re not wasting anyone’s time. 999 is better as they can stabilise you and help you feel better before you even get to a and e.

If you can get a lift ASAP that's ok. I'd be inclined to phone an ambulance if you've lost the same amount of blood again.

Foxmuffin · 28/05/2019 23:22

Hope all is ok. I agree you ought to be seen.

Toli · 28/05/2019 23:22

She really didn't seem bothered, said I know it looks bad but it can wait until the morning if you want.

Glad you decided to go, that was the best decision. Hope you will be ok and home ASAP!

cindersrella · 28/05/2019 23:24

Go to the hospital. Take pad with you or at least the photo x

QueenofPain · 28/05/2019 23:26

More than a mug full in 30 minutes would trigger an ambulance via 111.

freshstartnewme · 28/05/2019 23:27

Hope all is ok

PollyShelby · 28/05/2019 23:27

Good luck x

MilleeMollyMandie · 28/05/2019 23:28

Midwife here - yes please go, particularly with offensive smell x

MilleeMollyMandie · 28/05/2019 23:30

Thinking of you Toli x

chickhonhoneybabe · 28/05/2019 23:30

You’re doing the right thing getting checked out. If you’ve got abdominal pain and heavy bleeding it could be retained placenta or blood clots, it could also be an infection if the blood smells and you generally feel unwell

MilleeMollyMandie · 28/05/2019 23:35

Also don’t go to A&E - they won’t touch you and then you’ll probably end up in 2 sets of queues to be seen - please go to the labour ward/triage/maternity assessment unit x

Lotsalotsagiggles · 28/05/2019 23:38

Hope you are ok, keep calm and hope you get sorted quickly xx

anitagreen · 28/05/2019 23:39

Good luck op x

LoafofSellotape · 28/05/2019 23:40

I would get it checked but I had similar and it was with after pains with feeding. Midwife said it was my uterus contracting.

All the best OP.

Threeminis · 28/05/2019 23:43

Best of luck op Thanks

RainbowFox · 28/05/2019 23:47

She really didn't seem bothered, said I know it looks bad but it can wait until the morning if you want.

Did she see the photo? If not then maybe she just doesn't realise how much blood it is. I'm surprised she said it could wait until morning.

Toli · 28/05/2019 23:53

Nearly there, panicking like mad

You’ll be in the best place op. Hope you feel better quickly.

Nousernameforme · 28/05/2019 23:58

The thing is if you have excessive bleeding which 1 week pp that is and it smells wrong you are supposed to rush in and get checked out. You are doing exactly.the right thing op.

Good luck as its mw unit you won't have to wait through a&e

theGirlWithManyFaces · 29/05/2019 00:02
