Hi I’m having my first baby I just wanted to know on average how long people stay in hospital. I would love to be in and out in the same day. How likely is this?x

I had DD around 6am on the Sunday by c-section and was out at 3pm Monday. No breastfeeding checks really except to see that I vaguely was doing something.

My Dsis had a perfect quick birth and could have gone after 5 hours but baby then developed jaundice so was in for a night.

I’m a same day girl lol birth at 6am home 12pm
birth 2:30pm Home 8pm
birth 3am home 11am.
who knows how it will go this time but I like to be in and out. Not being rude but being put on a ward with 3 other babies when yours is sleeping and the other 3 keep waking up all night long is exhausting!!

1st = overnight
2nd = 4 hrs

2 births, in for around 9-10 hours after birth and discharged straight from delivery suite.

Two nights both times. Unfortunately necessary due to pre-eclampsia in both pregnancies, so needed extra monitoring.

First birth delivered 4pm Thurs, postnatal 11pm (delay in getting stitched back up), home 5pm Sat.

Second birth delivered 2am Sat, postnatal 6pm (recovery from C-section + no beds), home 5pm Mon

All depends on what happens

1st 5 days

2nd 2 weeks and he didn't come out for 6 months

3rd 5 days

7 days with dd.

Induced but didn’t give birth till 2 days later, showing signs of infection so dd and I were on antibiotics for the remaining 5 days (we didn’t actually have an infection in the end) There were some other things too but that’s another (long) story. All ok now.

The first couple of days were horrible - I was on a ward with other women and it was noisy, visitors coming and going all day, no privacy, I couldn’t wee ( had a catheter in for 2 days) , didn’t sleep etc. I was then moved to my own room, which was bliss. I would obviously have much preferred to have gone home. It was hard for dh too having to leave us each night, but dd and I were well looked after post birth and it was helpful having midwives to help me with breastfeeding. My dd actually put weight on as she was bf so much!

I’m pregnant again and hoping to be home the same night or 1 night at the most - all being well.

First baby the following evening, second third and fourth was out after the minimum 6hour wait.
Depends on the time of day baby arrives etc.
First one was the only time I was moved onto the post natal ward too; the others I stayed in my delivery room until discharge.

No minimum wait at our hospital, they wanted to send me straight home from delivery room with my second within 2 hours of birth!
