Was it what you'd packed/planned to wear?

I took a lovely birthing nightie thing and ended up in a vest top I think. Might even have been totally naked by the end! Hospitals are generally extremely hot!! The birthing nightie was extremely useful to wear around the house afterwards tho so I'm still glad I got one. Super soft and comfy

Girlwiththearabstrap · 02/09/2018 22:31

First time, a hospital gown. Second time a long primark vest top. I went in to be induced wearing the vest top and midi skirt and just took the skirt off. And my pants obviously. Labour is a hot, messy business. Unless you need a bikini top for the pool or whatever I think just any old thing is fine.

FlotSHAMnJetson · 02/09/2018 22:32

The same clothes I'd been to work in as we didn't realise it was labour!

Pebblespony · 02/09/2018 22:33

I wore an old nightie at the start. Changed into a hospital gown mid way through at the midwives' request.

Aprilshowersinaugust · 02/09/2018 22:33

Most times a t shirt and pants.
Except with ds.
Mad dash in ambulance and delivered wearing dress and shoes still!!

littletike · 02/09/2018 22:34

Took a nightie but wore a hospital gown which is more useful!

ohgodnotyouagain · 02/09/2018 22:34

I had a water birth - was naked as the day I was born Grin

Got to the pool room, whipped off the hospital gown I'd been wearing and sauntered to the pool like a big fat swollen Miss World.

PhilomenaButterfly · 02/09/2018 22:35

Jeans and summer top, then nothing for the water birth.

supadupapupascupa · 02/09/2018 22:35

I think I ended up pretty much naked for both mine, maybe a cami top. Too hot, too uncomfortable, I didn’t give it a second thought

Ohyesiam · 02/09/2018 22:36

A strappy tshirt material mighty at first, then nothing. I remember ripping all my jewellery off at some point( transition probably) as I wanted nothing on at all!

Eggoispreggo · 02/09/2018 22:37

Absolutely nothing 😂 once I got to the MLU I got in the pool naked and then when I got out again a few hours later to actually give birth the nudity continued. I think I'd packed a maternity nightie to wear on dry land and a vest for in the pool but when it came to it I just couldn't be arsed and took everything off!!

thenightsky · 02/09/2018 22:38

I just had to look back at old pics to remember. DD (1986) a hospital gown by the look of it. DS (1991) a far too boob revealing Mothercare nightie.

Rodent01 · 02/09/2018 22:40

Hospital gown for DD1 born on the bed, nothing for DD2 born in water, just stripped off and got in!!!

flyingsaucersherbet · 02/09/2018 22:45

I planned on a nighty but labour was so quick I just had on the vest I turned up to hospital in. I tried to take all my clothes off in the corridor because they were annoying me so much - all modesty went straight out the window!

BrazzleDazzleDay · 02/09/2018 22:51

Dd1 my fave bum length band tshirt, dd2 dhs tshirt. The dt's I had no bad etc I went to hospital in my bloidy jammies so had bugger all else, had my bra on but was too cold so given a gown, I got majorly hot so clawed everything off.

A long tshirt/nightie prob best I reckon.

BrazzleDazzleDay · 02/09/2018 22:52

Bag bloody fucking kindle

BackWhenIWas4 · 02/09/2018 22:54

Nothing. Couldn't bear the feeling of being touched during labour. Even clothes against my skin was an unpleasant distraction.

EL332 · 02/09/2018 22:56

Thanks everyone - I'm 27 weeks at the moment and I'm already most comfortable sleeping with nothing on... I was panicking about being uncomfortable in labour but it looks like a lot of women just go with the urge to strip off 🙂

DS1- A special nightly with the appropriate buttons for BF that got covered and I binned immediately. I shouldn't have wasted my money.

DS2- DH's spare t-shirt. I went 13 days over and my pj top I packed in my hospital bag at 37 weeks didn't fit me. So I stole his top. A much better option compared to DS1's nightie.

dinosaurkisses · 02/09/2018 23:03

A nightie I got from Primark's maternity range.

Hoping for a water birth this time so probably just a sports bra.

I do an internal chuckle every time I see those £35+ "birthing gowns" advertised on Facebook etc, clearly to first-time-mum's who don't realise how much like a WW1 medical tent labour is.

NellMangel · 02/09/2018 23:09

I was in pyjamas when Labour started - vest and bottoms. So after waters broke I changed bottoms. At hospital had to take off bottoms for examination. Just stayed like that and got in pool.

I'd packed two t-shirt style nighties thinking I'd wear one. Didn't.

Vest was good for skin contact and breastfeeding once baby out - my nightie would've been in way.

howrudeforme · 02/09/2018 23:13

A dark blue nightshirt with a big smilie emoji.

diamantegal · 02/09/2018 23:32

My midwife kept trying to get me to cover up! I think I ended up in a very grim Primark nightie (bought for that purpose as it had buttons down to front for easy skin to skin contact), but given I'd been sitting stark naked in the bath, dressing when I came out seemed a bit pointless. Probably better for the photos though...

And regardless of what you wear, I can highly recommend taking a pillow or two - I like being propped up and hospital pillows can be a tad flat.

toothtruth · 02/09/2018 23:34

No! Lol with my first id packed a pj outfit to change into when I got to the hospital. I was going in for induction so thought id have plenty of notice etc.. just had a cheap set of pjs from primark that could get blood on.

I went into hospital wearing an expensive summer dress id borrowed from my mum that id promised to return. I stupidly decided to wait until after theyd put the pessary in to get changed because they said i might have to go home... well i was in instant agony from the pessary and all thoughts of getting changed went out the window. Then they decided to put me on hormone drip for some reason and so they put an epidural in at the same time. I was also on a saline drip and had all this monitoring stuff on me so obviously couldnt get changed after that point. Ended up in labour for another 24 hrs after that. So was just stuck on this bed in my giant ridiculous dress till the end.
My mum let me keep the dress! even though I actually managed to avoid getting any blood on it at all.

Second baby I was given and changed into a hospital gown but then tore it off during a contraction because it was so so hot. Was completely naked when I gave birth.

Mumof1DS · 03/09/2018 19:39

Planned to wear an old nightie. Ended up being able to have the birth pool after all, so gave birth in a cropped top.
