First time mums and did you go into spontaneous labour???

Hi ladies so as the title says how many of you first time went into spontaneous labour and at how many weeks? I am 36+3 so wondering whether to be on the look out? Had back ache and such but not really painful braxton hicks or anything - although I've heard not everyone gets them anyway. Baby is head down and lots of pressure going on!!!

Thanks :)

Oh and I was 39+2 and she wasn't actually engaged when all this happened, she did get into position while I was contracting though.

Intransige · 12/07/2017 18:49

If you don't think your waters have gone and you're not having actual contractions then I wouldn't expect the midwife to check dilation. In the entire course of two births the only internal examination I had before being in established labour was when I was several weeks overdue.

It's not actually that helpful anyway to know how dilated you are at this point. You know you're not in labour (no contractions) and how dilated (or not) you are has no bearing on when you will go into labour.

So they won't risk inducing premature labour by doing an internal at this stage and messing with your cervix.

Good luck, the last few weeks of pregnancy are such a long wait! Flowers

40+5
10 pm went to bed
10:15 felt uncomfortable/fidgety so got up for a stretch (not unusual as had spd) few cramps like mild period cramp
10:30 first contraction I thought ok well maybe this is the start of something
10:32 second contraction yep this could be it
10:45 emptying of bowls started lovely!
Still contracting every 2 minutes
By 3 am I was fully dilated

Intense and fast, was expecting 12 hours + and the first 2 hours I was going how the hell am I going to do this for 12+ hours? Arrived in hospital to late for anything but gas and air.
Was advised on discharge to plan for a home birth next time.

I've just discovered this thread, so helpful to read everyone's different experiences! Currently 37+1 and have experienced back ache and period pain and what I think are Braxton hicks, all off and on for the last week. The 'baxton hicks' feel like my whole tummy turns to rock and tenses up for up to a minute or so and then slowly releases...a bit like period pain too i guess, is that Braxton hicks or just wind?! At most ive had a few a day, very spaced out. Not painful but quite uncomfortable sometimes. How would you describe your Braxton hicks?

I've a friends birthday to go to on Saturday when I'll be 37+3, it's an hour and a half drive from home (DH will drive) And I'm slightly anxious about going as we'll be so far from the birth centre if things do kick off. I thought we'd have hours and hours as presumed all first time labours were very long, but judging by this thread they can alone very short! I'd like to go but don't want to end up having baby in the car or in an unknown hospital miles from home Confused

Just a quicky..

It's a boy!!! Hugo was born today at 8:11pm at 6lb 15ozs, all perfect and with curly hair like me!!!! Epidural and then took about 12 pushes and he was out, 1 stitch 😀

NorthernLurker · 23/07/2017 22:09

14 not 24!!!!!

Johnskymberlina · 24/07/2017 07:07

Thanks ladies, looking forward to knowing my boy!!! First boy in the family in 50 years and 33 in Dhs, first grandson for everyone and nephew so I think he will be too spoilt!! Didn't sleep much in hospital just because I don't think anyone ever does and they are checking my blood pressure 😡 Hugo did his first poo - yayyy so the docs are happy about that, I'm sore but don't think it's as bad as it could be if you know what I mean?? Xx

MrsWiddle · 24/07/2017 07:40

Duh! Should've finished reading before posting! Massive congratulations on your baby OP! x

BrollyDolly · 28/07/2017 16:01

Congratulations OP I hope you are enjoying time with your baby xxx

rooella · 28/07/2017 16:06

Went into labour at 40 weeks exactly and delivered 40 +1.

Chamonix1 · 29/07/2017 10:15

1 week overdue following a successful stretch and sweep! Dr felt dd's head!

Chloris33 · 29/07/2017 20:56

Nope, induced at 42 weeks. Stretch & sweep had not been possible as cervix was still completely closed.

chump1066 · 30/07/2017 14:16

Nope! I had the perfect pregnancy - easygoing, midwife always happy with progress etc baby's head was engaged and low BUT I still had to be induced and DD had not made an appearance after due date. Ended up having a bit of a different birth to the easy one I was expecting - induction drip, episiotomy, forceps and a hefty hemorage and I was 42 weeks
