Hi ladies so as the title says how many of you first time went into spontaneous labour and at how many weeks? I am 36+3 so wondering whether to be on the look out? Had back ache and such but not really painful braxton hicks or anything - although I've heard not everyone gets them anyway. Baby is head down and lots of pressure going on!!!

Thanks :)

I'm 40+3 here and feeling pretty fed-up. Every mornng i wake up thinking... oh i'm still pregnant. Attempted sweep at 39 + 6 but cervix too high and far back. Trying again later today so fingers crossed. Feels like i'll just be pregnant forever! Sad i really want to meet him but dont want to be induced if u can avoid it. Going to try accupuncture... cant do any harm

Anotherweddingone · 10/07/2017 08:55

I went into spontaneous labour with my first at 40+2 and delivered 40+3. Had just been for a looooooong walk before it kicked off- took a while to realise the pains were contractions and not just general uncomfortableness/end of pregnancy Braxton Hicks esque stuff!

Johnskymberlina · 10/07/2017 13:12

How does labour start?? I woke this morning to severe period four pains, took some paracetamol and managed to drop back off to sleep. Today I feel crampy??? Is this normal??

Mine started with period type pains and slowly had show all day.
Most people I know IRL started with period pains but obviously not the case for everyone.
I wasn't convinced it was happening until the contractions were obviously real!

hiimmumma · 10/07/2017 14:43

Although your only 37 weeks now right?
I had similar pains a few times towards the end, hence why I wasn't convinced.
You never know though, could be it for you

MissWilmottsGhost · 10/07/2017 14:48

41+1, spontaneous labour started 3am, baby born 25h later.

Johnskymberlina · 10/07/2017 17:51

Thanks mumma, I've upped my water intake in case it was dehydration but I still feel crampy. I'm seeing the midwife tomorrow so I might ask her if the baby is engaged, will she do an internal do you think?? To look for dilation?? Xxxxxx

I went into spontaneous labour with DD at 40+1 and delivered at 40+2 - about 24 hours from first mild contractions to delivery.

MrsRaymondReddington · 10/07/2017 18:05

I had no bad back, no pain, no show....just going about my day when my waters went at 36+5. Contractions started about an hour later when I got to the hospital. An hour after that I had an emcs. I went from thinking I had another 3 weeks or so to mentally prepare myself to having a baby within 2 hours!

BrollyDolly · 10/07/2017 18:40

Hi @Johnskymberlina I'm 37+2 and have been having a bit of a strange day also. Awake in night with period type pains and BH and they've been on and off throughout the day. Also what I believe could be a show very light red mixed in with the discharge coming out but that seems to come and go each time I go to the loo.
I have been bouncing on my ball and had a lay down earlier and it seems to have gone away.
Midwife tomorrow so will see what she says.

noplease · 10/07/2017 19:16

Spontaneous started at 39+5 and gave birth 2 days later on her due date Smile. I started in the middle of the night with period type pains which gradually turned to contractions.

Intransige · 10/07/2017 19:34

My braxton hicks bloody hurt towards the end, despite the "official" view being that they don't hurt. And my midwife confirmed that yes they can hurt and yes they were definitely braxton hicks.

whereareyousleep · 10/07/2017 22:15

40+6 DS born the next day I had 1 sweep a few days before but don't think it did much

Johnskymberlina · 11/07/2017 08:13

Call your local maternity assessment clinic or the hospital. You need to let them know your waters have gone.Take deep breaths and try to stay calm.

I woke up in pain in the night and thought i might be in labour only for it all to go away and leave me frustrated and disappointed... grr Sad

BrollyDolly · 11/07/2017 09:40

@Johnskymberlina I would advise to call the hospital and if you can't get to them then they will possibly get an ambulance or send out a community midwife? Let us know how it goes xx

Intransige · 11/07/2017 10:09

Call the hospital delivery ward. They will ask you questions then tell you if you should go in.

FartnissEverbeans · 11/07/2017 16:01

My waters broke spontaneously at 37 weeks and baby was born seven hours later.

I had a routine appointment a few days beforehand (loads of routine appointments in this country, all of which unfortunately included internal exams) at which I learned that I was two cm dilated. Baby had been quiet so the dr hooked me up to the machine that monitors contractions and it turned out I was contracting but couldn't feel it at all!

Dr told me to rest for a few days and then I had a baby Smile

FartnissEverbeans · 11/07/2017 16:02

Ooh I just saw your latest post! Good luck OP!!

Johnskymberlina · 11/07/2017 19:53

Hi ladies, midwife didn't even bother feeling baby or anything and sent me on my way. Not sure what to do now!!! I was hoping she would see if the head was made engaged??? She didn't really make an effort to help???

@Johnskymberlina I don't really know what to say as can't understand that they didn't do any checks? What did they say about your waters and being sick? Can you not get some more advise from hospital -labour ward?

Intransige · 11/07/2017 20:41

Do you think your waters have gone? Is there still leaking fluid? If there's any chance you think your waters have gone then you need them to check you.

If your waters have gone then usually the policy is 24 hours before the infection risk starts to become a problem. It might just be discharge and plug, I had loads towards the end. But better to be safe than sorry.

Put a pad on if there is still leakage - the smell is a bit of a giveaway with waters (mine didn't go until I was in labour but apparently it smells like grass/sweet).

Johnskymberlina · 12/07/2017 09:59

Well I don't think it's my waters as I didn't feel a pop or anything but she just said if baby is moving then there is no cause for concern??? And I just said oh?? I thought she would check for dilation or something but she didn't?? Everything I said about being sick etc she just said 'oh dear' and then nothing else. Pointless visit!!!!

I woke up one night at about 2am as I thought I had wet myself but it was my waters spontaneously breaking. There was loads and I legged it to the loo, leaking all over the hallway, before I realised it was clear and not pee! Mild cramping straight away and we called hospital to inform them of the time since they had a 24hr policy. Cramps very quickly (within 5 mins) became very proper long contractions, lasting about 40 secs each and 2 mins apart. I was worried I'd have the baby at home so we went in to have me checked, but the examination wasn't done very well and I was sent home to eat and have a bath, having been told I was only 1cm. I knew that couldn't be right and paced around in what felt like proper labour for 30 mins at home before demanding another taxi for called and this time I wasn't coming back home! I had a different midwife check me and she said a bit of my show hadn't quite come out - she did that with a gloved hand (ouch) loads more water came out and she said 'ok you were right, you're actually 6cm, you can stay in.' Trust your body, you know it best. Make sure they examine you properly and ask for a senior midwife if you have to! DD was born 22 hours after waters broke but once they'd given me pain relief a lot of that was just waiting to be 10cm to be honest. I ended up having an epidural, episiotomy and forceps, and I would do it again next time if I had to. Minimal cut, a few stitches, healed quickly and was just happy that DD was born healthy. Good luck! You can do this!
