Hi ladies so as the title says how many of you first time went into spontaneous labour and at how many weeks? I am 36+3 so wondering whether to be on the look out? Had back ache and such but not really painful braxton hicks or anything - although I've heard not everyone gets them anyway. Baby is head down and lots of pressure going on!!!

Thanks :)

Thanks ladies, it just goes to show how different everyone is doesn't it? I do think I will have a late baby thought being a FTM, I don't really want to but I suppose the baby is in control Wink

With my DS my contractions started at 40+2, had a sweep 2 days later as nothing much had happened. That got things going much better, lost my plug, contractions got stronger and I was admitted to hospital that night (40+4). However nothing progressed much at all and my waters never went naturally so at 41 weeks they broke my waters on delivery suite and I finally started dilating. Couldn't get to 10cm so they took me for an EMCS and DS was born in the afternoon bang on 41 weeks.

It's such an unknown especially with first babies so just be prepared for anything and if things don't go to plan with your birth plan, try to just roll with it!

Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy and the birth 😘

My first came on his own at 37+5

Waiting on his sister now at 38+4, just started getting some niggles the last day or so

Good luck everyone Flowers

Superfinch · 09/07/2017 13:19

I was 39+4. Had loads of braxton hicks in the weeks leading up to my due date. She was always really wriggly in the evenings and on that day she really felt like she was trying to kick and punch her way out. My waters broke just after midnight and she was delivered just under 12 hours later.
Good luck...and congratulations. Smile

MrsPringles · 09/07/2017 13:25

38 + 5 when DS made his early arrival Smile

BrollyDolly · 09/07/2017 13:25

Following as I am 37+1. Had BH during the night and very active baby!

40+2 here for DC1.

Get everything ready if you haven't already and then do some lovely spoiling things that will be tricky for months. Go to cinema, have a pedicure, go out for nice grown up lunch/dinner with your best friend DP. Read the Sunday papers from cover to cover. Sod's law your baby will come on a day when you've booked something fun to do. Wink

Gunpowder · 09/07/2017 13:31

Best friend or* DP

silkpyjamasallday · 09/07/2017 13:33

40+1 contractions woke me up at 4am at hospital at 7pm and baby born at 11pm.

Boopboopboop · 09/07/2017 13:35

2 days after due date, contractions started in bed, waters broke when they examined me, baby born 12 hours later

adjsavedmylife · 09/07/2017 13:36

Spontaneous here and a bit of a surprise. Waters broke at 35+4, show two hours later, contractions 5 hours after that. DS born 9 hours later at 35+5, already weighing 5lb 13, pretty much fully baked though looking a bit shellshocked like he hadn't meant to come then! Possible mistake on timings as I wasn't sure...

Tilapia · 09/07/2017 13:39

With my first DC my waters broke at 40+7 and labour started soon after, DC was born approx 28 hours later.

MrsMarigold · 09/07/2017 13:52

37+2 I was in total denial, everyone said first babies are usually late. Even when my waters had broken and the contractions were coming hard and fast I was still in denial.

Johnskymberlina · 09/07/2017 13:54

Is it true that first babies come late do you think??? Xxxxx

Spontaneous labour at 40+10 with my first. I had got to the point when I thought I would be pregnant forever, but once he got going it was all done and dusted surprisingly quickly - about 3.5 hours of established labour.

fairgroundsnack · 09/07/2017 13:55

I think on average first babies come later than 40 weeks.

BalloonDinosaur · 09/07/2017 14:54

As I understand it, first babies are likely to be late, but obviously everyone's different.

I was 40+4 with DS, contractions started the morning before, but stopped after a few hours.
Kicked in again at the same time the following morning (5:30am ish) and lasted all day, but quite irregular. Went in at 11:30 that night, DS arrived 11:30 the following morning.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 09/07/2017 14:57

No, I was induced at 11 days late but then had a 40 minute labour, so all was not lost! Never noticed any braxton hicks or anything, think my body just wanted to hold onto him, but he was ready to be released! Grin

TinyTickler · 09/07/2017 15:10

40+2. Woke up in the early hours with contractions. You'll know when it's happening!

VinIsGroot · 09/07/2017 18:22

Spontaneous labour with all 3 DC! Had waters broken at 7cm withDS1 and at 8cm with DS 2.
Dd3 wasn't even checked as progressed well and waters broke and she delivered 3 pushes later!
DH dies say that the women on OBEM are drama queens ... I've just been really lucky and tolerated labour and birth without help or meds. I am very hypermobile though and I think that helps as I am very stretchy and have a high pain threshold!

Intransige · 09/07/2017 18:27

I found assuming my due date was 42 weeks was helpful. Babies arrive when they arrive. Didn't stop me obsessively wondering if I was going in to labour, mind you.

hiimmumma · 09/07/2017 19:01

39+4
Had a sweep at 39+1

Was booked in for induction on due date because it was a big baby.
I didn't want to be induced so the whole of my 39th week spent walking 5+miles a day
Raspberry leaf tea
Spicy food
The works.
I went to big shopping centre and spent the day there with half unpacked hospital bad at home, because that would have been really inconvenient to go in to labor then.

Not sure if any of it actually helped but it did happen spontaneously.
At home on a Friday night just as DH got in from work. Baby born the next day.
All very convenient really.

Dawsonforehead · 09/07/2017 19:17

Spontaneous at 39 weeks exactly. She was back to back and my waters didn't break, just had back pain for a long time until true labour began! Born after a few hours.

annlee3817 · 09/07/2017 21:10

Spontaneous labour at 40+5, she'd been engaged since around 32 weeks, I was 1cm dilated at 37 weeks, approx 3cm at 40 weeks, no niggles or anything, and labour started in the middle of the night, had her in my arms just under six hours later Smile

27Harper · 10/07/2017 03:40

Little Leo was born bang on the dot almost. He was a day early actually. We had to have an emergency c section as he was really distressed and didn't want to come out. I've never had a vaginal birth and as I just turned 6 weeks pregnant I'm kind of dreading it to be honest lol xx
