best bit of childbirth

my ds is 6 months old on saturday and i've been thinking back to his birth. it was an emergency c-section which was a bit scary but i have the loveliest memory of the night following. i had him lying on me almost all night, bf him every now and then, with the lights all dim. i know i nearly lost him but there was something magical about that night and it is one of my best memories ever.

wondered what were the best bits of childbirth for other mners ?

the cup of tea afterwards. Mybest drink ever!

shonaspurtle · 20/02/2007 13:30

...mmmm and the toast! Pain free & high as a kite on relief, adrenalin & oxytocin.

magnolia1 · 20/02/2007 13:30

I had a planned c section with ds1 and the best bit was in recovery lying skin to skin for his 1st feed

Best bit about dd1 was not having proper contractions and giving birth within 30 mins of realising I was dilated

Best bit about the twins was staying in for over a week in a fab hosbital with fantastic staff

Best bit about dd4 is harder as she was so early and in special care but I suppose it was holding her for the 1st time.

NbgsYellowFeathers · 20/02/2007 13:30

the end when they finally came out.

Mumpbump · 20/02/2007 13:31

Having the epidural and having an hour or two pain-free... It was such a relief... And finally getting to hold ds, of course!

poppiesinaline · 20/02/2007 13:31

Hi Magnolia1

The best bit every time is when you get to hold and cuddle them for the first time and they open their eyes and blink and stare at you.... ahhhhh... the best feeling in the world..

AngharadGoldenhand · 20/02/2007 13:33

Home birth followed by a glass of champagne while breastfeeding for the first time ever.

detoxdiva · 20/02/2007 13:33

When I pushed the rest of her body out and the pain just stopped

(that, and the first cuddle obviously )

madmarchhare · 20/02/2007 13:34

Mmm, emergency section and a stint in scbu made it a scarey time but we stayed in a parents room next to the unit and the first night we had him in there all to ourselves was fab. This was when most of the first photos of us all were taken.

TeeCee · 20/02/2007 13:34

My DD1 coming in to join us and see the last part of the birth.

The head had just started to crown and I sent DP in to bring DD1 in as she was awake and reading books with my best friend in her roon next door. They both came in and DD1 was doing her happy hands. She said 'hello mummy' and had a huge grin and basically looked really excited, her face was alive iykwim. She sat on the end of our bed and carried on doing her happy hands so I knew she was really excited still. Then I gave birth to her sister. I lay on the bed and DD2 was on my tummy and I cut the cord. Then DD1 crawled over and said 'hello baby, look mummy, baby, look, hello baby' and DP, me and our 2 girls all lay on the bed having a cuddle. The midwife then ran me a fresh bath and I got in and gave DD2 her first feed and it was bliss.

Tortington · 20/02/2007 13:34

i haven't got any. it was fcking horrendous.

KathyMCMLXXII · 20/02/2007 13:36

Making it to the hospital 5 mins before ds was born, having really thought we were not going to get there on time.

AlanasMum · 20/02/2007 13:36

The second night after the violent shakes (from emerg c section drugs) had gone and the morphine and the visitors (inc DH) and I was finally able to look at & hold my baby properly. I ignored all the mws and slept with her on my chest all night.

TeeCee · 20/02/2007 13:37

The other best bit with DD2 was realising that I didn't have to leave the house!
The worst bit of DD1 was having to go out in the freezing cold and that horrific drive to the hospital. It took forever and I hated every second of it. Was so nice knowing I didn't have to move with DD2.

Gingerbear · 20/02/2007 13:37

The first poo after C-section.
I told the whole world and his dog that I had had a crap after 5 days.

madmarchhare · 20/02/2007 13:56

Oh yes, that was a good one too. The realisation that I wasnt going to split in two.

foxymagoo · 20/02/2007 13:58

holding ds for first time after 2 day labour and semi-emergency c-section. He latched on no probs. and I just kept saying "isn't he beautiful" over and over...

Tea and toast was ace as was three day later poo!

ja9 · 20/02/2007 14:03

tears here at TCs first post. sooo lovely. thanks for sharing...

TeeCee · 20/02/2007 14:31

Arrrrrr thanks ja9. Have to say I've gone all misty as well thinking of DD1's face,

Feel all slushy that the best thing about DD2's birth was DD1!
Planning on having DC3 at home too and think it would be nice if DD1 joined us again but don't think it would work having DD2 there as well.

grannycrackers · 20/02/2007 14:38

great reading all these. stops me thinking about all the colds/coughs etc we've got atm. i wish i'd beeb brave enough to consider a home birth. would have been great with my first three.

i also loved the feeling post-birth of getting my body back and being able to lie down comfortably . even after a cs it still felt better than the last few weeks of pg

Deffo the cup of tea and toast afterwards. I was totally off my tits on G&A and was amazed that I had been supplied marmalade.

The fact that I now had a small baby didn't really register until later

yomellamoHelly · 20/02/2007 14:53

The moment after my waters broke. The pressre release was fab and felt so much more comfortable. (Actually the had a 90 minute doze to mw's horror - she kept coming in and deliberately disturbing me!
Being able to have a semi-decent hug with dh a couple of hours after giving birth - bump had been massive and was back to 5 months size.
Also second detoxdiva on the moment after you've pushed db out and you realise the pain has vanished - bliss.

mamijacacalys · 20/02/2007 15:03

Agree with cheesy and others - the tea and toast tasted fab (due to the heightened emotion? - had no pain relief).

hotandbothered · 20/02/2007 15:44

Did everyone get tea and toast?!
I ended up eating dh's sandwiches from the night before I was so hungry...

Best? Walking round house alone, in early stages of labour, with dog following me. Every time I stopped for a contraction he stopped, put his head on my foot and looked up at me as if to say 'you're not alone'. He loved dd - almost as if she was 'his' baby.

AlanasMum · 20/02/2007 15:54

I didn't get tea & toast either. I feel a little robbed now!
