my ds is 6 months old on saturday and i've been thinking back to his birth. it was an emergency c-section which was a bit scary but i have the loveliest memory of the night following. i had him lying on me almost all night, bf him every now and then, with the lights all dim. i know i nearly lost him but there was something magical about that night and it is one of my best memories ever.

wondered what were the best bits of childbirth for other mners ?

Just before leaving home and feeling all tingly knowing that Id be back with a wounderful new life in my arms.

Twinklemegan · 21/02/2007 22:46

After three and a half hours of pushing (with the head being visible for two and a half of those) looking down and seeing my baby's head. It's making me well up just thinking about the sheer joy and relief.

Them putting LO on my tummy after a very long and arduous labour and seeing that she was a girl - I really wanted a girl. The most pure and exostential (sp?0 moment of joy in my whole life. Then I started barfing!

hmmmm lets think oh yes all of it from beginning to end.Even the 2 15 hrs i spent at the hospital in false labour. To actual full labour, tooting on the gas and air, going into my own world and shaking from head to foot knowing i was going to see my lb v v soon,to the mw saying touch the top of your babys head,to him being put on my tummy and looking straight at me with eyes open wide, god the love i felt for him from then on is so strong,i feel so v v lucky.Oh yes and the tea and toast afterwards id the best ever.I can remember being wheeled to the ward ds in my arms and just not being able to stop looking at him, then the mw saying i needed to sleep yeah right i spent the entire 4 hrs till hubby came back just looking at ds fast asleep.

Coffee and toast about an hour before I gave birth...never enjoyed it more than then(it did not stay down but was bloody loverly).

Pavlovthecat · 22/02/2007 09:50

Oh and my Dp crying, looking more knackered that I was...

Monkeytrousers · 22/02/2007 11:18

You'd be suprised Grannycrackers. There was once a massive thread about orgasms during childbirth - very rare but palpable - apparently

MyNamesNotDaveItsRodney · 22/02/2007 11:27

DD - not feeling sick anymore, and not needing to eat 100000 poppadums an hour

DS - Sitting on my sofa, snuggled in my duvet, realising that he had attatched himself and started feeding

suzi2 · 22/02/2007 11:30

And I thought I was the only one who had an embarrassing poppadum addiction when pregnant!

MyNamesNotDaveItsRodney · 22/02/2007 11:44

lmao - that and microwave popcorn!!! DS was much nicer.... fruit

eemie · 22/02/2007 11:47

Hearing my dh shout 'she looks perfect moments after her birth

fuzzywuzzy · 22/02/2007 11:54

The finally getting her out moment...my the relief!!!

DizzyDave · 22/02/2007 11:56

we named dd after we'd had a 4d scan and knew what sex she was. midwife didn't know this, so as she was born she said 'can you see what you've got' and i was so out of it on gas and air i just wearily replied 'yes it's matilda.'

pollyanna · 22/02/2007 11:59

I think when I felt the urge to push - I have been very lucky and each time have had very short pushing stages, so I knew that I would be meeting the baby soon. Seeing the baby for the first time is amazing, but I always had stitches at this stage too which I didn't like.

After you've had a shower and are in clean pyjamas and your baby is lying in the little crib. Ooh, I'm getting broody just thinking about it (blanking out the pain etc).

Debbsyandson · 22/02/2007 13:25

oh and the skin on skin cuddle.

Mistiek · 22/02/2007 15:17

I had an emergency C-sec after being in established labour for 16 hours and buy the time my DS1 was born I was so exhausted. But when they took him out and told me it was a boy and hearing him cry for the first time was my best moment as we really wanted a boy and knew when he cried he was just fine.

As we were both so tired we slept till the following morning and only woke up again at 6am... and when I woke up it was all so strange to see this little being that was a mini version of my husband and I - it was such an amazing feeling...

Cant wait for DD's birth now - 4 weeks to go and counting...

The morphine !

Seriously, after my c/s I had a morphine drip which I could operate myself. I have never been so high. I absolutely loved it. I am sure I must have been an opiate addict in a previous life, lol.

I'd even have another baby just have the morphine drip again. Now, that's worrying.

eidsvold · 23/02/2007 06:09

for dd1 - When I finally got to touch dd1 - day after she was born in ICU. Fabulous theatre staff who made the op theatre a pleasant place to be despite having an emergency c-section.

dd2 - skin to skin in recovery after calm elective c-section. Dd1 seeing dd2 for the first time.

Pheebe · 23/02/2007 08:24

The excitment of the first hour or so with mild contractions and knowing this was it, the pickle would soon be here ... and the ham sandwich after it was all over! The best sandwich I ever tasted after a hideous 23 hours in labour and almost 3 hours pushing! Worth every second and can't wait to go again...

Pheebe · 23/02/2007 08:26

O and seeing my ddh cuddle ds for the first time

danceswithnewboots · 23/02/2007 08:34

Unplanned section first time, best bit was holding dd for the first time, skin to skin then she started feeding (oh brings tears to my eyes even now)

ds - planned section, afterwards I had heavy bleeding and there were mutterings about taking me back into surgery so not that much fun and I didn't bond with ds straight away. That night as he was crying everytime I put him in his crib next to my bed and I realised he just needed me I felt that whoooosh of love, such a fabulous moment
