my ds is 6 months old on saturday and i've been thinking back to his birth. it was an emergency c-section which was a bit scary but i have the loveliest memory of the night following. i had him lying on me almost all night, bf him every now and then, with the lights all dim. i know i nearly lost him but there was something magical about that night and it is one of my best memories ever.

wondered what were the best bits of childbirth for other mners ?

It being several years ago and becoming harder to remember.

FiachraDave · 20/02/2007 16:07

TC - that's a lovely story - I think you, possibly more than any other MNer post the most misty-eye inducing posts when talking about your DDs........

BigHotMama · 20/02/2007 16:30

My best bit with ds was when they pulled him out (emerg c sect) and told me it was a boy and I layed eyes on him for the first time then looked at my DH next to me and we both burst into tears ...then of course the first cuddle was amazing just coudlnt believe he was finally here and was so perfect and beautiful.

Another proud moment was taking him back home, and even when I was in the back of the car on the way I kept looking at passing cars to see if they were looking at my little man. Oh so proud mommy.

And yes I had tea and toast too

SpaceCadet · 20/02/2007 16:39

not feeling sick anymore

BigHotMama · 20/02/2007 16:51

...Or having wretched heartburn arghh!

ja9 · 20/02/2007 17:48

( i got tea and toast but it had mould on it... )

not this time tho'.. all being well will be at home and i have all my favourite food in freezer ready to be lifted out on my first contraction!

cheritongirl · 21/02/2007 09:38

Lifting my LO out of the water (it was a waterbirth!) and holding him and realizing that i had actually made him - felt like an absolute miracle!! Then lying in my own bed ( was at home) drinking champagne and eating cake with all our family - magic.

Get your body back!
Not feeling sick any more!
Eating and drinking what ever you want!
No more waiting!
No more horrid hormones
DH support in child birth, is something out of this world, and the love connection we had during and after, bliss!
Family seeing what YOU've done, this perfect little being!
And having your baby in your arms, New baby smell and the love you feel for this little person, out of this world.

Bugsy2 · 21/02/2007 10:10

The relief when it was over & instantly the pain stopped - with DD who was my second & an unassisted delivery.
There was no best bit with DS, other than the fact we were both still alive at the end of it.

Cappuccino · 21/02/2007 10:10

tea and toast

grannycrackers · 21/02/2007 10:39

of those who had champagne.

When DD1 was put on my tummy and she grabbed so tight onto my finger it was like she wanted reassurance that I wouldn't ever leave her.... ahhh.

BabyMadwithBump · 21/02/2007 16:10

I want champagne this time!
Daisyhun ar bless magic moments I love hem!
I also love it when its just you, DH and babe, really is a lovely moment when you get to say hello for the first time! Im going to end up crying at this rate, I'm only 16+5 and really cant wait to meet LO now!

robin3 · 21/02/2007 16:21

Looking at DS2 and realising he was a carbon copy of DS1 and then being told he was the same weight and length. Not sure why but the fact that he was a little carbon copy of this adorable brother just made me so happy.

mosschops30 · 21/02/2007 16:27

the bit when they say 'ok just pant now' because I know its almost over. And I love the feeling when you just 'have' to push, that overwhelming urge feels amazing

longwaytogoandabitfurther · 21/02/2007 17:04

hmmm I loved pushing - granted i didn't have to do it for very long, but that feeling is totally out of this world - its like all of a sudden the pain stops and you just get this overwhelming urge to push.

Then they look at you with those huge big eyes and scrumpled up face and that smell is just out of this world.

And of coarse the tea and toast - heaven.

suzi2 · 21/02/2007 20:17

Can honestly say I loved having bo pain relief... pleasure and pain are VERY close together! I loved the rush I got after each contraction passed.

Also loved the champagne at 5am

sunnysideup · 21/02/2007 21:08

Laying awake in my room during the night after I'd had ds by 'crash' cs under general. I had a drip, a huge fat lip from the tubes I'd had in, no baby beside me because the midwives had taken him off to settle as I was no use to anybody due to shock and violent shaking; but I had NO PAIN.

BLISS. After two nights and three days of relentless, agonising pain I had NO PAIN.

I know this isn't ranking up there with the beautiful bonding moments but I still remember the BLISS.

I think it was a few hours later I remembered that trauma and agony had had something to do with a baby and it was then that I did the lovely bonding bits. But my most blissful remembrance of childbirth is that moment of realising my pain was GONE.

clarebka1 · 21/02/2007 21:16

Tea and toast rocks!!! But for me after an emergency vontusse delivery due to scarily low heart rate seeing her move her blue arms and cough on my belly was the most awesome moment. As was the birth of a baby in the birth pool next door to our room half way through my extra long labour - I was so jealous she was in and out in about 1 hour but so happy to hear their joy

juuule · 21/02/2007 21:49

All of it From knowing that 'this is it', the excitement of the 'pushing' starting, baby emerging, first suckle, tea and toast, awake and on a high for the next 3 days.

MonkeesMum · 21/02/2007 22:02

My second night in hospital after an emergency C-section, we were finally alone in a room of our own, she was feeding and I looked down at her face and the love just hit me, I whispered, "I'm your Mummy" and my tears plopped down onto her. Welling up just thinking about it, I'll never forget that moment.

MonkeesMum · 21/02/2007 22:04

Thanks grannycrackers, lots of lovely memories coming back and so lovely to hear everyone else's.
