Am I in labour???

I know it has been done 1000 times before, but if nothing else I just want something to do with myself while my body decides what it is going to do.

I felt fine all day, got to about about 5 o'clock-ish, and very suddenly started to feel sick, didn't want to eat dinner but DH made me eat some toast which perked me up a bit, have been having fairly mild but intense contractions (can you have mild and intense at the same time?!!) with a tiny bit of back pain, coming every 8-10 minutes or so. The contractions aren't painful, but just really tight, and the baby has dropped really low.

Anyone who has followed the last 5 weeks with me, this is completely different to every contraction I have had before!

I actually feel really silly posting this, in case it turns out to be nothing, but I am bored and can't concentrate on the telly, so thought it would at least take some time up.

OOh this could be it!

Nemo1977 · 17/11/2006 22:34

It could be but cant say 100% as was induced with both mine and probably will be with no.3

SherlockLGJ · 17/11/2006 22:34

I hope your name is not down for the meet-up.

SherlockLGJ · 17/11/2006 22:35

Seriously...........I have no idea, but someone will be along soon to help you.

Good Luck.

lulumama · 17/11/2006 22:36

nat...if this isn;t it...i am coming round and will get the baby out for you!!

keep an eye on them for the next hour.....8 - 10 mins sounds promising....

what is the intensity like..can you talk through them?

NatalieJane · 17/11/2006 22:37

I was induced with my first so didn't do any of this natural start thing. I am booked for a home birth, and no not down for the meet up!

I feel like I should have loads of things happening, you know, like waters breaking and the pool being filled and everything else, but it is just nothing, it feels like it can't be happening because nothing is happening if that makes any sense? But if it isn't labour, I don't know what it could be....?

I am talking fine, breathing fine, I feel really shaky and still a bit sick but nothing else.

Lulu, you have my complete permission to do just that!!

mmm going by both my labours despite induction I had aches and pains that I didnt think were too bad but were registering quite highly as contractions then within 30mins for ds and a couple of hours for dd turned into full contractions.

megandsoph · 17/11/2006 22:43

The tightnings at the begining of labour, are what I rememeber most and then it got more painful as time went on.

Hope this is it NJ.

sleepysooz · 17/11/2006 22:44

Sounds like you are in for a long night so make yourself as comfatable as possible, take some lovely long deep breaths.

Then have chocolate fudge cake, make love, and see how you feel after that!

Water don't always break 1st, these could be braxton hicks - but they should wear off, if they don't, could be it!

Good luck - AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH early congratulations!

sleepysooz · 17/11/2006 22:44

Fill that pool if you have one!

lulumama · 17/11/2006 22:45

can you fill the pool...will it stay warm ....

if you are contracting every regulalry for the next couple of hours and the intensity is increasing and they are becoming closer together , tis a good inidcation..

waters might not break before established labour..

and you've been having a show for weeks.!

NatalieJane · 17/11/2006 22:47

Some of you will know, (and if you don't where have you been for the last few weeks? ) I have been having contractions due to an irritable uterus, but none of them have gone on for as long as these have now, and it is the sickness and shaking that is coming with them that is making it different. And in fact the contractions themselves feel different, but then the baby has dropped so I suppose it is bound to feel different no?

I know I am just worbling on, but I feel like I should be doing something (and sex is definitely not an option right now - for the first time in a long time it isn't the first thing on my mind!!)

sounds like the early stages of both mine

i remember wandering around thinking 'ooo is this it, no this can't be it.... but if its not it what is it?' for 15 hours or so before the lovely midwifes broke my waters at 3cm each time

get some rest (i'd say sleep but hardly likely!) and do try and eat a little as you might not want to afterward

good luck

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 17/11/2006 22:47

sounds like mine the 2nd time. it is hard to explain, they are def. intense but not painful.
your waters may not break at all.... ds2 was born in the bag!!

lulumama · 17/11/2006 22:48

time the next contraction please!

NatalieJane · 17/11/2006 22:50

I have the birth pool in a box thing, it has a heat retentive cover thing, but can't see it being great at keeping it warm for long TBH. Besides the midwife told me not to get in it before she has checked that I am past 5cm else it could slow everything down.

oNLY THING IS, EVERYONE HAS ALWAYS GONE ON ABOUT HOW QUIET THE BABY GETS BEFORE LABOUR, AND HE HAS BEEN VERY QUIET ALL WEEK BUT TONIGHT HE HASN'T STOPPED SQUIRMING AROUND (sorry for caps!!) so does this mean it probably isn't labour?

NatalieJane · 17/11/2006 22:51

OK contractions just gone..

OP posts:
NatalieJane · 17/11/2006 22:51

lulumama · 17/11/2006 22:52

ok......(hug)

i blardy give up..where do you live...i;m coming over!!!!

lulumama · 17/11/2006 22:52

how long did it last and how long since last one??

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 17/11/2006 22:53

Go here to time contractions I used it for ds2 and printed it off and took it to hosp to show midwives as they always ask how close- this shuts them up and they don't ask any more questions, they just book you in!

megandsoph · 17/11/2006 22:53

NJ is bump going really hard when tighening?? Different from the braxton hicks tightening IYKWIM

NatalieJane · 17/11/2006 22:54

I will time properly from the next one. I have only been glancing at the time when one comes.
