Am I in labour???

I know it has been done 1000 times before, but if nothing else I just want something to do with myself while my body decides what it is going to do.

I felt fine all day, got to about about 5 o'clock-ish, and very suddenly started to feel sick, didn't want to eat dinner but DH made me eat some toast which perked me up a bit, have been having fairly mild but intense contractions (can you have mild and intense at the same time?!!) with a tiny bit of back pain, coming every 8-10 minutes or so. The contractions aren't painful, but just really tight, and the baby has dropped really low.

Anyone who has followed the last 5 weeks with me, this is completely different to every contraction I have had before!

I actually feel really silly posting this, in case it turns out to be nothing, but I am bored and can't concentrate on the telly, so thought it would at least take some time up.

I am banking on the pool really, I didn't want pethidine again, I have got DH to promise me he will take the gas and air off of me if I start banging on about completely nothing, or start screaming again, the rest is just distraction really.

And I am not brave, I am absolutely shit scared TBH! But no choice, we have no one to watch DS, if we end up having to go into hospital for anything we will be more or less up the creek with out a paddle.

I had some toast and marmite earlier (under DH's watchful eye!!) So don't feel like I need anything yet really. I am managing to drink water with out too much trouble so I am sticking to that for now!

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 17/11/2006 23:36

have been away decorating my lounge and radiators with the ds' cloth naps! lol- chinese laundry in here, every day!
is the midwife going to bring mobile g&a with her?
i found this with the warmth of the water great. also you can bite the mouthpiece when you get to pushing but 2nd time i threw it at dh and broke it- lol!

megandsoph · 17/11/2006 23:37

Right am off to bed. I am sure everything will be fine NJ. Your DH and midwife will sort something out if for any reason you do have to go in.

Try and relax and hopefully we will be reading your birth announcment soon. xx

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 17/11/2006 23:38

where abouts do you live nj?

NatalieJane · 17/11/2006 23:38

LOL Was DH in the way?!!!

No, the chemist delivered the gas and air cylinder things (and an oxygen one incase the baby needs it) last week, and the mouthpiece thing is in with the midwives kit bag that she left here last week as well.

I actually put the gas and air down to push last time, just found that I could concentrate better with out it.

lulumama · 17/11/2006 23:39

me too couldn;tpush as effectuively

contractions still comgn?

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 17/11/2006 23:40

i was about to push and was saying 'take it, take it' i was wedged in the pool in such a way i couldnt put it down safely, so threw it, hard, in his direction and it hit the foor and snapped it off, leaving a ring of plastic round the tube bit! lol
agree you just cant be faffing with it though when 'the time' comes!

G'night megandsoph xxx

I live in Accrington, family is spread everywhere so no good, and we don't know anyone well enough up here to have DS really. Our nextdoor neighbours have offered to have him, even if in the middle of the night they have said, so in an emergency he can go there, but I would rather not have to use them unless we absolutely have to, they are lovely, but DS doesn't know them very well, and the lady, as nice as she is, is the sort of person to just walk in when I will be led there with my legs in the air and no clothes on, and she wouldn't think to ask if I was OK with that, which I wouldn't be!

Sorry that was a long answer for where do you live wasn't it?!! LOL

my thread started a week before lo came lol
rest up dear. will be checking in the morning for you!
Xx

NatalieJane · 18/11/2006 00:52

Well the sickness has more or less dissapeared, but still feeling a bit shaky, and sometimes when I stand up my legs either feel like they are about to give way, or that they are really heavy. Contractions are still coming though, no closer together or stronger or anything. The baby is still moving loads, and nothing has shifted my heartburn as yet.

I don't really know what to do with myself. Especially since the contractions aren't hurting, I know I should be in bed trying to sleep, but then I know I won't sleep, I feel like getting in the bath but don't want to slow it down any more if this is labour, I might just go and get into bed and read a book or something, I have had enough of BBC1 now!

Still have no idea which way this is going to go, I suppose by the morning we should have a good idea.

Hi hun, I am a lurker from the conception thread so I cannot advice on birth yet! However, I didn't want you to think that there was no-one around. I just happened on your thread as I was time wasting on MN whilst I should be writing my dissertation and it has been an education!

I hope everything goes OK for you, keep calm and rest
Gill xx

MKG · 18/11/2006 01:26

How is your shaking? Do you have chills also. I started shaking and got terrible chills when I was in labor and transitioning. My ds was born 3 hours later.

You will be fine. I've been reading your threads and you must be so sick of being pregnant. Try to relax. You've made it this far and you will see your baby very soon.

NatalieJane · 18/11/2006 06:23

I have been asleep all this time, still geting tightenings, don't know how regular because I have more or less only just woken up, but they aren't coming quickly, and still not painful.

I don't know if I should let DH go to work or not, he isn't up yet but I don't want him here hanging around if he doesn't need to be, I suppose I will have to ask him to at least stay in the county, if he can.

I still don't have that gush of 'OH MY GOD I'M IN LABOUR' feeling that everyone describes, I really hope this doesn't turn out to be a huge flop!!
