Am I in labour???

I know it has been done 1000 times before, but if nothing else I just want something to do with myself while my body decides what it is going to do.

I felt fine all day, got to about about 5 o'clock-ish, and very suddenly started to feel sick, didn't want to eat dinner but DH made me eat some toast which perked me up a bit, have been having fairly mild but intense contractions (can you have mild and intense at the same time?!!) with a tiny bit of back pain, coming every 8-10 minutes or so. The contractions aren't painful, but just really tight, and the baby has dropped really low.

Anyone who has followed the last 5 weeks with me, this is completely different to every contraction I have had before!

I actually feel really silly posting this, in case it turns out to be nothing, but I am bored and can't concentrate on the telly, so thought it would at least take some time up.

Hello NJ ive been lurking a little all day. Poor you to still be waiting, it is so infuriating. It doesnt sound like you have an irritable uterus just one that is being very thourough with its preparation. All the niggles count for something, when you finally go in to established labour im sure it will be very quick.

I niggled an awful lot with #5 and was so convinced on so may occasions it was happening, but nope he came 2 weeks late. He did arrive in 40 minutes though so beware! It could be your body pushing him in to the optimum position for labour, so all the sit on a birthing ball and over the back of a chair is the only advice i would have given and you know that already from everyone else, im sure it helps. I lived on my birthing ball at the end as much as i could.

Wishing you lots of luck and a speedy (not too speedy) delivery of a lovely baby very soon. I will continue to lurk

Lulimama you are so lovely, ive seen you on lots of threads, i so hope you are around when i go it to labour with #6 in may. It may be mn first live birth as im not sure anyone will get here in time. #5 was born about half hour after i got home (home births planned with last 3) Will post in between contractions that are not going to hurt a bit this time and tiny baby will slide out effortlessly

Kaz33 · 18/11/2006 21:09

NJ, with both of mine (both OP births) I was in mild labour for about 24-30 hours or more. The bit when I went to hospital when the pain really started was about 7 or 8 hours.

Good luck, sure it will kick off soon. Try and stay relaxed.

lulumama · 18/11/2006 21:13

I'm stil here waiting too NJ. You are not alone!

megandsoph · 18/11/2006 21:22

Am still here too NJ. The pressure sounds good.

xx

NatalieJane · 18/11/2006 21:25

All of you are so nice, I feel like a complete timewaster!

It is so frustrating, things are happening every few minutes, so it isn't as though I can do anything to take my mind off of it, and yet, the things that are happening aren't enough to be anything significant. Just wish it would either stop, or step up a gear, even if it is still going to be a long drawn out labour, just something to show which way it is going to go would be great right now!

Put it this way the baby has got to come out sooner or later! how many weeks are you?

NatalieJane · 18/11/2006 22:00

I am 38+3 today, and like I said, I've been having contractions for 5 weeks, but it still doesn't mean it is one way or the other.

lulumama · 19/11/2006 10:49

morning honey.........! won't ask if there's any progress....have you seen the lovely piccy of Mars & Hunker in member profiles?

NatalieJane · 19/11/2006 11:03

Nope, nothing happened. I felt really sick last night so just went to bed, woke up this morning and nothing, no contractions, no sickness nothing, I give up, this baby will come when it is ready, and until then I am taking no notice whatsoever of anything that happens until contractions get too painful to cope with or my waters break, or something else as definite.

Thanks to everyone for the concern and advice though, it really does help. xxx

how you doing hun....been ironing and burnt my arm again ! going to watch lost in a bit..hope you are ok..xx

NatalieJane · 20/11/2006 08:06

Ouch! I hope your arm feels a bit better today xxx

Nothing to report, have had a handfull of strong contractions, but they aren't regular, and feel just like they were feeling last week so think they are just down to my bloody uterus playing up again.

I have my DS off school today, he has a really bad cold, which he was handling well, but he has been awake all night coughing and spluttering and with high temp., so he is all tucked up feeling sorry for himself. I have the midwives tomorrow, so he I hope he is feeling better by then, I don't know what to do about getting a sweep now though, she said she would do it this week, but if nothing is happening it's not likely to work, but then I think, even if it does nothing, at least I'd have tried! Can't decide!

OP posts:
Rosybumpily · 20/11/2006 09:11

No harm having a sweep! All your strong contractions won't be for nothing. I get like you towards birth, (I'll be in that limbo land in march)I bet when the baby comes it'll be quick and easy though after your slow build up! May the force be with you!

largeginandtonic · 20/11/2006 10:07

Sweep away i say NJ, if you are ready it will tip you over the edge, if not at least you can put your feet up and enjoy a few more quiet days free from tiny cries.

It is so annoying waiting, a big tease of mother nature i think. My last 2 messed around so much in the end i didnt believe it when it did actually start happening, not a good idea when #5 came in 40 mins. I spent most of the time telling myself its nothing really, im fine, no no dont call the midwife....

Im not worried this time, between lulu and mars im in good hands here, may have to teach dh how to use mumsnet so he can follow their instructions

Will keep checking on you, i wonder if you can set up some kind of alert on the pc so that mars and lulu will know when you need them, i could use thst too in may Largeg&t goes off to ponder it.......

NatalieJane · 20/11/2006 11:02

So much for taking no notice of what is going on until something definite happens....

Contractions are back fairly regular, maybe two in half an hour, and this morning I have (wayyyyy TMI) lost a HUGE piece of my show, biggest by far yet.

Humph... I am not getting excited, I am not getting excited, I AM NOT GETTING EXCITED......

lulumama · 20/11/2006 12:05

hi babe...any blood in the show? did you have a sweep?

NatalieJane · 20/11/2006 12:14

I am still not getting excited!

No, the appointment at the midwives is for tomorrow, still don't know if I should go ahead and have the sweep done or not. There is a part of me that is stubburn enough to want to go into labour completely on my own with no interferance from anyone, after all of the build up, I feel like I should be able to have at least that to say about it all! Having said that if nothing comes of these contractions then I may well be that pissed off that the sweep will be very welcomed!

Well I am going back to the sofa under the poorly blanket with DS, bless him, I know it sounds horible but I almost quite like it when he is feeling a bit poorly and all he wants is a mummy cuddle LOL God I am an awful mother!! LOL

OP posts:
NatalieJane · 20/11/2006 12:15

Oh, meant to say, no, no blood in the show, just the biggest, jelliest, greenest lump so far.

lulumama · 20/11/2006 12:22

nice....glad i had finished my lunch! a sweep will start labour if it was going to start anyway..so see how you go today!! you are not a bad mother..you are tired and pregnant!

largeginandtonic · 20/11/2006 14:28
