Am I in labour???

I know it has been done 1000 times before, but if nothing else I just want something to do with myself while my body decides what it is going to do.

I felt fine all day, got to about about 5 o'clock-ish, and very suddenly started to feel sick, didn't want to eat dinner but DH made me eat some toast which perked me up a bit, have been having fairly mild but intense contractions (can you have mild and intense at the same time?!!) with a tiny bit of back pain, coming every 8-10 minutes or so. The contractions aren't painful, but just really tight, and the baby has dropped really low.

Anyone who has followed the last 5 weeks with me, this is completely different to every contraction I have had before!

I actually feel really silly posting this, in case it turns out to be nothing, but I am bored and can't concentrate on the telly, so thought it would at least take some time up.

or use the lap timer function on your mobile..... handy while zoning out on the couch you just press the button at the start and finish of each one and it loggs it all for you, and you can save it to show the mw

wondering if i will be able to be this calm when i am a real doula!

NatalieJane · 17/11/2006 22:56

Bump is staying hard most of the time, but def. tightens as a wave of sickness passes over...

This is so hard, because it isn't hurting as such, and I think a bit of nerves and excitement is thrown in as well, I don't know anymore if my belly is feeling funny from contractions or sickness or anything else...!! LOL

Just a thought, I started on the raspberry leaf tablets yesterday, could this be whats caused it? (I don't mean the labour I mean if I am just feeling poorly?)

nooooooooooooo!

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 17/11/2006 22:59

my contractions came on at 8pm 2mins apart from the start iykwim. i couldnt sit, or stand or move so was hanging onto back of computer chair, slamming the spacebar, or instructing dh when to hit it! lol

megandsoph · 17/11/2006 22:59

NJ The tightnenings sound really promising!!

lady just saved that site for future ref. Lulu I have read some of your other threads and I think your gonna be fab (will stop sounding like an arse lick now)

PinkTinsel · 17/11/2006 22:59

well they tone the uterus so if you have an irritable uterus to start with quite likely i'd say

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 17/11/2006 23:00

i thought the pulsating redness the contraction counter displays was quite fitting!! lol

megandsoph · 17/11/2006 23:01

Actually I am sure that some women get either the runs or sickness in early labour, apparently it's the bodies way of clearing stuff out ???

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 17/11/2006 23:02

have you been having these 8 minute jobs since five? when did they start to appear regular?

lulumama · 17/11/2006 23:02

thakns meg

i think you would have to have a lot of the RL tablets to make such a difference..esp as not as strong as the tea IIRC!

wish i;d known about the contraction timer,,,DH used his PDA.....kept dropping the stylus as he was so nervouse!!!!

NatalieJane · 17/11/2006 23:02

I can't do this timing thing properly, not the site, that is great! I mean the actually timing them, I can't decide if it is just a wave of nausia or a contraction sometimes.

I wish something would happen one way or another to show what is going on.

lulumama · 17/11/2006 23:03

we..either you;ll have the baby or you wont

!

Go and try some nipple stim, see if they come on stronger!

NatalieJane · 17/11/2006 23:04

I have been having them since I started feeling poorly around 5-ish, but not been timing them all the while because of all the contractions I was having over the past few weeks.

And been meaning to say for the last few posts but kept forgetting, I think you will be a great Doula Lulu, you have helped me so much over the past few weeks, and I know I am not the only one you have been there for

megandsoph · 17/11/2006 23:05

not sure you will be getting just normal waves of nausea in the even intervals though

NatalieJane · 17/11/2006 23:05

So does the baby going wild in there not mean anything?

OP posts:
lulumama · 17/11/2006 23:06

thanks

now...are we having a baby or not!

are the pains lasting 45 seconds or more?

NatalieJane · 17/11/2006 23:08

LOL Don't be embarressed!

I'd say they are lasting about a minute to a minute and a half.

just found this

Shivering or Trembling
Another of the early signs of labor is occurring is a shivering or trembling feeling that you might experience for no reason. This early sign of labor might happen without any sensation of cold or weakness, and can be the result of stress hormones or an alteration in the level of progesterone in your body. Shivering and trembling is yet another of the early signs of labor and that you'll be having a baby. Continue reading for more early signs of labor.

lulumama · 17/11/2006 23:09

that sounds promisisng...

ledodgyfireworksingedmyeyebrow · 17/11/2006 23:09

My ds was active right the way through labour so much so he pushed himself out too bloody quickly so imo an active baby doesn't always mean you are not in labour!

ledodgyfireworksingedmyeyebrow · 17/11/2006 23:10

I had the shivering thing with ds too but not with dd and ds came very very quickly!
