... how do you know??? Did you ask?

I never asked and nobody said so I'm sticking my fingers in my ears, singing lalalalala and assuming that I didn't.

With my first i had XP, MIL, Aunt-IL and my mum as well as various medical professionals.

I asked XP a few days later and he siad i hadn't...he would have said if i had.

with DD i know i didn't because i saw the sheet when she changed it and there was no poo.

JosephineSmith · 18/09/2006 10:19

ROFLMAO with Mrsaek, exactly what mine would say I'm sure!! and aitch71, hilarious! Thanks to all, for making me laugh so hard!

Bugsy2 · 18/09/2006 10:49

I have no idea with DS because he was hauled out of me with forceps & I was paralysed from the ribs down & completely gowned up & screened off in case of an emergency c-sec.
However, I definitely did with DD. I was on all fours & I was mortified. I had to ask them to wipe my bottom too - ewwwwwww, so grim.

I had a very quick labour. As I entered the room my waters broke & it was like noah's ark. They had paper towels everywhere to soak it up. Then I pooed & then DD literally burst out of me, spraying blood & gore everywhere. After which I had a small haemorrage (sp?). When I stood up after I was all stiched up, it looked like a slaughter house. Midwives sprayed in blood, blood sprayed on the walls, all over the equipment & the floor was horrific. No wonder I was anaemic!!!!!

CheesyFeet · 18/09/2006 10:59

tbh I don't know if I did or not, I was completely off my tits on G&A.

I'm not going to ask dh. I'm in Soupy's "lalalalala I can't hear you" gang on this one.

maggiesmama · 18/09/2006 11:01

i did. and thought i was actually delivering my dd. was gutted that it wasnt actually a baby...

FoghornLeghorn · 18/09/2006 11:08

I know I didn't poo because I was soooo terrified at the thought of doing it I think it actually stopped me pushing properly

Piffle · 18/09/2006 11:13

I did in my 1st but not with my 2nd
With 1st... err midwife noticed, )I was standing in shower labouring intensely as you do) shouted at my mum to get a foil pot.
Mum got it and pushed m/w out of the way and said I'm her mother FGS I'll do it
But I was in labour so could not care less.
But the little pot sat in th abthroom and in the excitement got left.
When I went to shower an hour or so after ds was born there it was...
I had the good grace at that point to be truly mortified.

iquiteunderstand · 18/09/2006 11:34

dont think I did and DH hasnt mentioned it so hope I didnt! I presume you would smell something wouldnt you??

novadandypowder · 18/09/2006 12:12

Haven't read all the posts, but this made me laugh so had to put in my experience.

Was really worried about pooing, told DH he had to stay up my head end so he didn't see anything etc. Anyway - I pooed so much they ran out of mess mats and had to get some more. DH was down the messy end the whole time holding on to my leg finding it all amazing. You can't smell it, and to be honest I really didn't care by that stage as I just wanted the bloody thing out!

Just accept that it will probably happen, and ignore it. Pooing is a good thing as it means the baby is working it's way out (repeat this 100 times and you might start to believe it)

lak114 · 18/09/2006 14:13

I know I did with my ds but had had a bad case of diarrhea throughout the days during labour and there was still more to come out 36 hrs later when ds finally arrived - mw was very discreet tho and dp has never mentioned it!!!!!

sockmonkey · 18/09/2006 21:28

Oh my goodness. I haven't laughed so much in ages.
When the doctor said.."uh-oh Poo" while I was trying to give birth to DS1 I spent the rest of the birth apologising.(couldn't feel a thing though, I loved my epidural) It wasnt me though it was my lovely little boy who was distressed about having the cord around his neck and had pooed in me. Mmmm.
With DS2 I was very happily sucking on my G&A, thinking I had ages to go (was only 2cm dialated when they checked an hour before)when I shouted "I need a poo" and tried to climb off the table till midwife dragged me back saying "no!! that's your baby's head coming out lie back down!!!"

Nemo1977 · 18/09/2006 21:32

pmsl..I also asked dh who told me I didnt..also was quite with it the whole time so aware of what was going on.

morningpaper · 18/09/2006 21:38

hahahahaha

can't believe there are so many of you in DENIAL

I pooed loads during the first birth - I knew because of the STINK! although the midwife cleared it all away very discreetly. In fact I said to the midwife "Can you open a window? It smells like a farmyard in here!" and DH said "I can't smell anything" and the midwife said "That's because we put the fan behind you, dear."

My second was a waterbirth and I swear there was more poo than baby. Funnily enough I could really feel each poo coming out! I kept barking at the midwife to scoop them out.

morningpaper · 18/09/2006 21:40

Piffle: hahahaha! your mum sounds fab!

suburbanjellybrain · 18/09/2006 21:51

LOL - this thread appeals cos I was posting on a homebirth forum up until I had dd recently. After I managed my hb I posted the birth story omitting the pooey bit which didn't seem to add to the 'ambience' afterall it wasn't in the birthplan. I blame the in-laws as they bought a dozen eggs round the weekend before so the day I went into labour I had made a 6 egg omlette and meringues! so no wonder I hadn't managed to evacuate sooner - I remember apologising over and over but dh said the midwifes didn't care at all...

pebblemum · 18/09/2006 22:49

This thread has had me in stitches

I know i didnt with either of my boys and im sure dh would never have let me forget it if i had. I had been worried about it beforehand though.

notasheep · 18/09/2006 22:52

was so disappointed when i thought i was having ds but it was a poo instead

muma3 · 18/09/2006 22:54

i definilty did with dd3. i got up early to go for a bloody poo and when i stood up out of bed my waters broke . obviously i never got the chance . i blame the poo for slowing down my labour too

all i kept saying is how bad it smelt and the midwife joked and tried to make me feel better by saying "you havent it was just * farted didnt ya ?! meaning my dp . funny to look back on

muma3 · 18/09/2006 22:56

i know what you mean MP by 'feeling them coming out ' i did too and warned them about 5 mins before but i had already got the feeling to push and my body just did it for me . 10 mins later dd3 arrived

earthtomummy · 18/09/2006 23:05

oh god, i know I did when I had a waterbirth with no 3, because in went the sieve. I was too out of it with pain to care but feel mortified now!. Just 10 mins earlier, before I got in the water, DH and I were alone and I said, god, I really need a poo. DH suggested I go to the loo. He wasn't really thinking it through! Fortunately the midwife arrived and whisked me away to give birth in the more civilised setting of the pool instead of the loo. You'd have thought that by the 3rd time I'd have recognised the signs!

WideWebWitch · 18/09/2006 23:11

very funny thread, where else could you talk about this?

squatchette · 18/09/2006 23:14

with both my 2dds my no1 wory was what if i poo?So i totaly empathise with everyone here.Leading up to birth#1 i had the runs every day for a week and my midwife told me it's natures way of cleaning you out before the labour begins ,having a month to go + still at work 50 hrs a week i was slightly miffed and didn't believe her but she was 100% right on and i didn't poo during the birth dh told me .dd#2 same thing happened a month early again i was so convinced that because of the runs i packed my bag and was on red alert.Despite being told to go home at 8pm and giving birth at 9.45pm same night once again i escaped the dreaded poo .This thread has realy cracked me up though and at the end of the day if babys ok (or even not in my case another story)who gives a s**t
