... how do you know??? Did you ask?

I never asked and nobody said so I'm sticking my fingers in my ears, singing lalalalala and assuming that I didn't.

If you don't pooh at the beginning of labour it's just as well to do it during because you sure as h* don't want to be doing it after... The mw told me to push like I was doing a pooh - I thought, alright lady, you asked for it - with obvious results. She cleaned it up pretty quick though I could smell it and I was a bit embarressed. (I made sure I wore my favourite pink top - which made me feel better and I think improved the immediate post-birth/holding baby photo.) The mw seemed more upset with the waters breaking and breaking and breaking - the consultant complained that he'd just ruined another white shirt!! the poor thing. Can't wait for next time....

LittleSarah · 17/09/2006 17:09

I didn't notice any smell tbh, but I know it was only a wee bit I did having seen the paper towel... lovely...

poppynic · 17/09/2006 17:10

The mw kept offering to give me a mirror to look at proceedings "down there". Was she crazy - it was hurting enough without actually seeing how sore it all was.

taken me ages to read this thread, kept having to giggle, esp as chocybickie on @ 12:12:02 PM - re the look on the student midwives face.

I too had horrors at the thought of doing a poo in labour. Years before I'd even gotten pregnant I'd heard the stories from my DH about how a friend of ours had pooped in labour, then had the baby a few mins later who'd promptly pooped over the said new mum.

I ended up with a section, but there's still the possibility of "losing my dignity" when I go for baby 2!

PeachyClairHasBadHair · 17/09/2006 18:31

Haven't asked, didn't seem important.

Anway... why should I care? if that's what it took to get my babies here well then, small price to pay.

NotAnOtter · 17/09/2006 18:38

i asked and asked all through all my labours I shouted' help i have done one i know i have ...have i ..can you smell it ...promise me...promise i haven't' Most annoying i am sure
But they all said 'no'

NotAnOtter · 17/09/2006 18:42

I always diarroeah at the start of labour though

SoupDragon · 17/09/2006 18:45

I can't believe how many people have been happy to post about their pooing activities before or during labour - hilarious!!

Especially as I only asked "If you say you didn't poo during labour, how do you know you didn't?" I never asked for all the cr*ppy details!!

I asked dh and he assures me I didn't. TBH I trust him 100% and he wouldn't have any reason to lie to me..

ledodgyrobespierre · 17/09/2006 21:15

I did with dd and I kept asking the mw who was telling me know but my best friend and dp who were also there told me yes at a later date...were only pellet poos though. I didn't with my ds as it was so quick there was no time for anything but baby to come out lol.

ledodgyrobespierre · 17/09/2006 21:15

*no not know!

helsy · 17/09/2006 21:19

Yep. It was the (horrid) Dr saying "Oh, for God's SAKE!" followed by DH blushing that alerted me to the fact. Personally, I couldn't have cared less. Particularly after the Dr's reaction. Like THAT's never happened before.

I cant eat a curry again [blush} was mortified at the smell in the room whilst giving birth! but as everyone said at the time "dont worry ,the baby is sitting on your bowel, It means you are pushing effectively" Luckily DP was at the head end. Must admit was so worried before the birth about it but at the time, who cares as long as there is a lovely baby at the end of it all.

dislexicicecream · 17/09/2006 22:24

i didnt with any of myne , but with my first i rellly felt like i was and keeped saying sorry they keeped telling me i didnt and as soon as the after birth was out i was telling them i had to get to a tolet and they wear all saying no its just sqashed from birth its just a feeling so i got off the bed anyway and went to the loo (with them all trying to stop me and a nasty trail of blood following me ! igot to the tolet had my poo and then felt relly smug and toled them to go have a look hehe i was very high on pethadien at the time.....

kittywits · 17/09/2006 22:33

It's the smell isn't it? Horrible. each time it happened with me I remember commenting on the smell. Wish my body would empty itself out before hand .

MrsSpoon · 17/09/2006 22:36

I definately knew I did first time and definately knew I didn't second time.

Panyanpickle77 · 17/09/2006 22:50

I didn't the first time, but Dh made it clear I had the second time by shouting
"er you've just S**t yourself!"
Many thanks to him for making me feel so much better in my time of need. The midwife simply wiped it away and told him to shut up!!!!!!

MrsSpoon · 17/09/2006 22:54

TBH I don't know how you would miss the fact that you had done a poo in labour.

soapbox · 17/09/2006 22:59

|I didn't with dD but did with DS. Midwife was sooooo discrete - happened when my waters broke - and whisked it away with no fuss whatsoever. I was totally unaware of what she had been doing until DH started to gesticulate wildly in the background - sort of mouthing 'poo', then fanning his nose etc etc! Until the penny dropped!

Couldn't give a tinker's toss at the time but I am still awe struck by the professionalism of the MW and rather bemused by my DH's insistence that I fully appreciated the enormity of what I had delivered!

Still only a few minutes later the real delivery took place - and I did kiss that one

aitch71 · 17/09/2006 23:05

I've just checked with dh and he says that i definitely didn't poo.
To quote: 'are you kidding? If you'd shat in the labour suite i'd have mentioned it to you every days for the past nine months.'
He then wandered off muttering wistfully: 'i wish you had've done, that would have been hilarious.'

JessaJam · 17/09/2006 23:18

I have absolutely no idea if I did! I was totally numb from ribs down ( except on left hand side at the back !) I could have crapped out the Titanic and not noticed (although I suppose the MW, Registrar, Consultant and SHO probably might have flinched somewhat at that!)
I had been vomiting - a lot - in early labour so I doubt there was much left to 'evacuate' by then!

Ahh, labour! Such fun...
