Baby is here at last

Well netfriends, my baby is finally here!
I wasn't sure where to post this, and did not want to hijack anyone else's thread.
For those of you who went two weeks or more past your due date , four days will not seem much but they really dragged, and I finally had strong contractions at about midnight on Saturday.
We got to the hospital at about 2 am and my perfect baby boy was delivered about three and a half hours later. It went very well,(as being in labour goes); I will give all the details later if you are interested but time is tight at the moment.
I am so grateful for my lovely healthy baby and for the fact that he came into the world safely and without too much outside help.
For those of you who care about weight he was 9 pounds 11 ounces ( and there is a bit of a tale to tell there too, but I will save it for later)
I will be posting soon on the breastfeeding advice threads !

SueW and Bloss - I had an OP labour as well... yes you can TRY to prevent it but if baby wants to be OP it will be OP, nothing to do with slack muscles.... Do not beat yourself up like this !!!!
I have read A LOT on OP because my first labour was similar to Bloss' experience.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Bloss suffers from what I suffered (and was only recognise by a few people...) I have pelvis that won't "shift" or "drop"... this means that when the baby needs to come down into the birth canal, it has only a limited space. If your pelvis shifts (and it automatically does in just about everybody) you have more room. I tried to draw this but the preview showed me that I couldn't do it so I hope my explanation is clear ???

I think you can see what I mean... there is LESS room for the head to get in easily.
My second stage was not progressing at all for the first 5 1/2 hours !!!! We were all pulling our hair out and it was OP too (I think that this situation actually mainly happens with OP labour - may be wrong here).
So I was begging for relief ! (BTW I was at home at first but transfered to hospital).

The only reason this didn't happen again with DD is because an osteopath worked on me intensively... and he saw me 7 hours before I gave birth (I was having contractions and going to his practice!!!) - we all wanted to be sure myt pelvis had shifted this time...

Bloss- I'm going to give into my urge to type out some dogmatic Scummymummy advice 'cause I know you love it really!
Here goes, and I mean this from the top, bottom and middle of my heart:

  1. You grew 2 beautiful, perfect kids and they came out healthy and sound. End of story. How they got out doesn't matter to them. They did. And into the loving arms of a thoughtful, intelligent mother. They're lucky.
  2. Take it easy on yourself re: your view of the birth(s). I think Tiktok is spot on about allowing yourself permission to feel disappointed but not guilty and this fits in well with Jasper's excellent thoughts about coping with the labour you're "given". You coped with the labours you were given, making mature decisions about the level of pain you could endure and your babies' welfare. I think you've got a lot to feel proud about.

Bloss - It would be worth asking your health professional about your situation because if you are having the same problem as me... it is fixable - if you know of it !
My 2nd labour (where it was fixed) was only 5 hours (including 40 minutes of 2nd stage)...

Lil - baby yet? Nothing happening here ...

Lil · 03/04/2002 17:36

On her due date!! A baby girl (is that a Lil-ette!!), I can't believe we're there and all the waiting is over. I had a quick birth of 3 hrs after all that worrying, and a shot of pethedine got me through - with lots of shouting of course! The sun is shining and I'm still on a high - I went on an Easter egg hunt in the forest the day before, which certainly set it off, so I've a lot to thank the Easter egg bunny for! Thinking of you Eulalia...may your contractions be quick ones!
