Did you have any signs leading up to labour 2nd time round and if so what?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
KatieChooChoo · 05/02/2014 16:04

Right, ive been reading up. More BH are expected at this stage, the brown discharge is expected at this stage, feeling restless is expected at this stage, needing a number 1 and number 2 more is expected at this stage, feeling increased pressure below is expected at this stage, back ache is expected at this stage and reading too much into the mentioned is expected at this stage.
So me getting excited about more discharge is not a sign of anything happening immediately.. sighs..
:,-(

Redhead I hope you push of fate pays off, keep us posted.

KatieChooChoo · 05/02/2014 16:08

Pastaandcheese Im loving your planning. I so hope it comes off for you.

KatieChooChoo · 05/02/2014 16:11

MrsJK, ive shipped my ds to the child minders for the day. Ive done my cleaning. Dyed my hair. Watched Phil and Holly (while enjoying a clean and tidy livingroom for longer than 15 minutes with ds not being here) and now ive gone and registered for on line bingo !!!!!!!!!! on line bingo!!
I got myself quite excited at winning £3.40 and even that didnt set labour off.

MrsJK · 05/02/2014 21:04

Ha ha Katie that made me
Chuckle Bingo Wink did you make a killing this afternoon?

We have a nursery day tomorrow so a day like yours sounds heavenly especially after I fell exhausted today.

Think I may try for an early night tonight. Given how tired I am why oh why do I wake up early hours every single night?!

spritesoright · 05/02/2014 22:06

mrsjk I know, the insomnia is killing me. I had DD today and managed a nap together, lovely! We also went to visit a friend and her newborn, he was soo lovely and I got teary thinking about baby on the way.
DD is in nursery tomorrow and I was thinking of doing something luxurious like a pedicure.
These super short labour stories are scaring me, although apparently the birth centre will let DD in to the room but I wouldn't be able to relax. She's a handful at the best of times.

PastaandCheese · 06/02/2014 07:42

Nursery day here too!

I'm mainly planing to enjoy the silence.

spritesoright · 06/02/2014 12:54

pastaandcheese tis glorious isn't it? After they left I watched BBC breakfast sipping DH's coffee he hadn't finished and then went back to bed until 11.

Okay, maybe this baby can wait a bit longer...

PastaandCheese · 06/02/2014 13:03

I've been and had my eyebrows done. Eaten the last bagel for lunch and I'm reading my book now.

I've got ironing to do but even that will be a pleasure as the risk of serious injury to a small child is non existent and I can have Radio 4 on.

Madallie · 06/02/2014 14:02

So had a sweep today, 40 weeks exactly. I was hopeful I'd be dilated etc but apparently only 1 finger tip Sad and cervix somewhat posterior! Anyway sweep was done. This is exactly how I was at this point with dc1 and mw wasn't hopeful sweep would work then but waters broke 4am next morning. Still don't think she was hopeful this time and neither am I, but fingers crossed and I guess well see.

Please send positive vibes my way.

spritesoright · 06/02/2014 15:02

Oh Madallie sorry to hear that, positive vibes on their way!

It's difficult not to compare with first labour but probably best avoided.

How was the sweep? Not too painful I hope.
I was surprised at my midwife appointment yesterday when they said they won't book another appointment for me until 41 weeks (I'm 39 today), because it's my second.

So I wouldn't have the possibility of a sweep until then anyways.
Fingers crossed yours worked though!

My friend swears that holding a newborn kicks off hormones and kicked off her labour last time, but I have felt nada since cuddling her little one
(just jealous, that's all).

KatieChooChoo · 06/02/2014 17:11

Its bliss having a day to yourself isnt it. I feel so refreshed after yesterday.

The only sign i have is my discharge is now clear and smelly???? How about you guys?

xx

PastaandCheese · 06/02/2014 18:32

I know! I love my DD so much but she is very full on and so the odd day of peace is very welcome.

No symptoms here at all apart from some low down period type pains first thing.

I'm starting to realise that some of the symptoms I've been experiencing had more to do with working too hard than labour being imminent.

Madallie I can understand how you feel but everyone will tell you that things happen very quickly with second babies and therefore you shouldn't read too much in to what was said today.

KatieChooChoo · 06/02/2014 18:58

I think you appreciate your children when you get a break from them. They probably need a break from us as much as we need one from them!

This is ignorant of me but what does a sweep entail ?

I so hope things get moving for you madallie.

MrsJK has been quiet today, wonder if theres ant progression in her camp? hope so.

MrsJK · 06/02/2014 20:29

Sorry to disappoint ladies nothing from me Confused

Have been feeling slightly sorry for myself today whilst whizzing around 100MPH trying to get jobs done during nursery time.

I do wonder if my aches and pains ( of which had A LOT today ) have been from simply doing to much and not remotely D-Day related at all?! Shock

I'm getting slightly worried about the size of this baby now too - 2nd DC just sneeze out right Wink

Hang in there ladies!

spritesoright · 06/02/2014 21:58

No real symptoms here either. Although after today I'm thinking I don't mind waiting a bit. I still need DH to set up the baby bay and car seat base and I need to organise the nursery a bit.
Yes, my DD keeps me busy and seems to have picked now as a good time to drop her nap Sad.
I don't really know what a sweep is either, I assume it has to do with getting the cervix to open.
mrsjk I hope you get some much needed rest soon.
I keep thinking about the upcoming newborn sleepless nights and am completely dreading it. Two years ago now but that was a special kind of hell.

KatieChooChoo · 06/02/2014 22:15

at least once the babies finally arrive and they have us up at stupid o'clock we can start a new thread of how to deal with sleep deprivation :-)

MrsJK is sounds like you're doing an awful lot of whizzing round. Calm down and rest woman!! Easier said than done tho.

I too have been slow at organising with number 2. Ive still to put the car seat cover back on from washing and pack a hospital bag. Was contemplating a home birth but dp has totally gone off the idea and put me on a guilt trip so hospital it is.

Wishing you all a peaceful nights sleep with fewer than few toilet get ups.
xx

spritesoright · 07/02/2014 09:38

I like the idea of a home birth but in reality I wouldn't like the FAFF of setting up a pool somewhere, all the clean towels to hand, tidying up afterwards and having to worry about DD running around.
I want peace in the lovely birth centre.
There is so much to do isn't there? But make sure to pack your bag soon Katie.
Yes, I imagine I will be on some 'newborn sleep hell' thread soon enough.

PastaandCheese · 07/02/2014 11:19

Can't think about newborn sleep. DD was an angel in this respect. I'm going to get a nocturnal one this time for sure.

Loads of pain here today...... Owing to baby not liking scrubbing the bathrooms and floors. I would go and have a bath but it is too clean to use.

KatieChooChoo · 07/02/2014 12:50

Pastaandcheese that sounds like severe NESTING to me. I so hope so. A weekend arrival would be perfect. Fingers and toes crossed for you.
Loving your bathroom being too clean to use, i know exactly what you mean, although I dont experience that feeling often with DP and DS.

Madalle I hope theres some movement for you hun.

Hope Tallredhead is doing ok.

Wishing you all luck and a happy CONTRACTING friday!
xx

PastaandCheese · 07/02/2014 17:26

The house is stupidly clean and tidy, there are lots of little meals for DD in the freezer, home made cake in the oven, I've posted my niece's birthday gift two weeks in advance and cleared memory card on camera.

There's nothing stopping me except I've decided that I will go overdue. I did last time so why should it be any different this time?!

KatieChooChoo · 07/02/2014 18:29

My goodness you are super organised!

Madallie · 07/02/2014 22:33

No movement here. Went to assessment unit today as have been feeling sick, dizzy etc and slightly reduced fetal movement. Anyway midwives were happy with movement trace as was I but sent me to see doctor as I still felt sick etc.

Well, doctor did an internal, tried to do a sweep but said he couldn't cos cervix is too far back, not effaced or fingertip dilated as midwife had said yesterday. I had been told I was a fingertip dilated and 50% effaced (I cant see why she would make thus up).

Dr also said baby was measuring small. I have always been 2 cm smaller than weeks I am but have been told that's fine. Anyway this doctor says I am only measuring 34 cm that's 6 cm less than weeks I am and 4cm less than midwife measured me yesterday Confused. How the hell can that be?

Anyway dr said for me to go for daily monitoring on sat, sun and have a growth scan on mon, I'm so confused. Baby's movements were fine when monitored today and baby is moving like crazy this evening so don't think I need to go for the monitoring. As for growth scan, I just don't know how my measurements can have dropped so much overnight. I'm upset, confused and worried tbh.

PastaandCheese · 07/02/2014 23:29

Oh dear Madallie that doesn't sound like a good day.

The measuring with a tape measure thing has always seemed the least scientific approach I have ever seen. The midwife starts and ends the tape measure in a different place every time and I'd have thought that at this point the baby being in a slightly different position would change the figure.

Go for the monitoring. I'm sure you are right and you don't need it but it will be helpful to see what they say on Monday so you are a bit clearer on whether the baby is small.

I had a growth scan last time as I was 3 weeks behind. I'm 2 weeks behind this time. Funny enough I had a small baby - 6lb and overdue. It was reassuring to know she was just dinky though and there were no problems with the placenta / fluid levels so well worth having.

I don't know what to say about the difference of opinion re the sweeps but do you think she swept the membranes yesterday? If she could do that you must be dilating or she wouldn't have been able to attempt it.

I've only ever had one sweep but I could feel the movement of the midwife's fingers so I know it happened and I thought that they couldn't attempt it at all if you weren't dilating?

spritesoright · 08/02/2014 07:22

I had trouble getting to sleep last night because of ongoing cramp like period pains and I thought for sure, this is it. But this morning they seem to have completely disappeared.
Ah well, I was wondering how feasible it would be to drag MIL out of bed in the middle of the night and I'd rather start after a good night's sleep.

Madallie sorry to hear about new developments. I do think those size scans are notoriously inaccurate in late pregnancy. I had one with DD1 and they claimed she was in 99th percentile and at risk of shoulder dystocia. In fact she was 7'11 so hardly huge.
And the lack of dilation isn't a big problem I'm sure, still plenty of time for that to happen. I hope it goes well with the consultant.
pastaandcheese,I'm super impressed with your organisation. I've got plenty of jobs niggling me but can't bring myself round to actually doing them. I love the idea of preprepared meals for DD.
What did you make?

PastaandCheese · 08/02/2014 07:58

sprites I'm sure you're limbering up now. I like to think that any mild pains now can be offset against the eventual labour so it's quicker? Perhaps I'm being silly but it can't be for nothing can it?

I've made some things for all of us but hers are all portioned up. I am planning on using it all when DH goes back to work. He can cook when he's on paternity leave!

I've made DD spaghetti bolognese and mac cheese in the old weaning ice cube trays and then filled my ramekins with Shepherd's pie, fish pie and lasagne so they are part cooked and just need defrosting and baking off in the oven.

Before I sound too smug I should say I love cooking so it isn't really a chore.

How are you today Madallie?
