Following on from the Amanda Holden thread.

Some of you will have had baby, some having baby and others waiting. But on your actual due date what did you do?

I am in the latter group - still waiting, as DD wasn't born until 12 days later.

On my actual due date I was feeling pretty fed up if I am honet. Had planned on staying in. But got bored so DH and me went over to the next town where parents live. There was a big family meal at a local cavery type place so we joined in there. Stayed out latish and - gulp - yes, I had a small glass of wine I think. I loved the reaction I got when people asked me when I was due

Went to a county show (funfair, crafts, agriculture etc...) Well it helped take my mind off things (very slightly) DD was an annoying 11 days late...!

Ailsa · 25/02/2006 23:38

DD1 - didn't dare go out, just in case (2½ weeks late)
DS - can't remember (1 week late)
DD2 - went shopping (1 day late)

donaldduck · 26/02/2006 00:17

Went to Pizza Huts all you can eat buffet. I think they took one look at me and loaded extra pizzas into the oven.

I picked up my parents from the airport - loved seeing the looks on people's faces when I said "today" when they asked when I was due.

Then I went for a swim so I could repeat the conversation it over again. Funnily enough I always got my own lane to swim in!

carol3 · 26/02/2006 07:32

first. ds sat at home waiting for something to happen. (1 week late)
second. dd shopping with ds (9 days late)
third. ds having accupunture to get things going. (1 week late.)

I ran a 1st aid course for 10 13 yr olds!

Melpomene · 26/02/2006 21:02

dd1's due date: We went to the solicitors' office to exchange contracts on the house we were buying. (We had moved from Leeds to Cambridge when I was 35 weeks pg). Then had lunch at Pizza Express.

dd2's due date: We took dd1 to a stately home with a farm, and I had to avoid touching the lambs because of being pg.

Cod - started thread as someone on AH thread commented, negatively IIRR, that she was out at the cinema (or similar) on her due date. So just wondere whether it was expected to just sit in and wait on the day. This thread suggests not.

I know exactly what I did - I waddled down to the hairdressers, insisted they "fit me in" (literally) and insisted that my wanting my hair dyed brightest red was nothing to do with my hormones

Monkeybar · 26/02/2006 21:39

Went food shopping - also loved the 'when are you due?' question. Then went to a family wedding. DS arrived 11 days later.

Louly · 26/02/2006 22:46

DS - Already had my little boy he arrived 2 days early, boy was I suprised as I did expect to go over!!
DD - Different kettle of fish, young lady was too comfy! Tried everything as did not want to be induced and on the day I took DS for long walk down the big park in town! Know what you mean about the shocked faces when you say "due today!" DD arrived 5 days late so not tooo bad, although had started to get a bit irritable with the "Have you had it yet?" phonecalls!!

During the day, hung around with a friend who told me a horrifying birth story involving a goat ! I am still waiting for the chance to get her back properly for that, grrrr. Then about 8:00 my waters broke...

Elf1981 · 27/02/2006 07:49

Please tell us the story about the goat!

OzJo · 27/02/2006 09:50

Gave birth. But then I had been given about 4 different due dates, ended up giving birth on the original. Really liked the Dr at my 36 week check telling me how the baby was already big enough to be full term, had a really big head, and did I know that if the babies shoulders on the way out it can die really easily? Reasuring stuff.
And what happened with the goat????

OzJo · 27/02/2006 09:51

She said if the babies shoulders get stuck on the way out it can die really easily....teach me to just post with out checking...

missd · 27/02/2006 14:16

Both my dd's were a week late
DD1 was born in July 2001, a really hor summer so I just lay in the house complaining and eating ice cream!!!

On the day DD2 was due, I was standing in a que for the Manolo Blahnik shoe sale. I was hoping to get a cheaper pair of expensive shoes. However after an hour of queing my bladder won and I had to find a loo!!

It was quite amusing when the other women were complaining about the que etc, and I just happened to mention that I was due give birth that day!!

jabberwocky · 27/02/2006 14:25

LOL! Okay, here's the goat story:

My friend had some neighbors who raised goats. They came running over to get her one day because a goat had gone into labor the night before and still hadn't given birth. My friend is from Mississippi, so I will try to tell this "in her own words".

"So this goat had been laying thayer allll nite long. The pore thang had broken its wawter and it was jest dry as a bone. I started yellin' for sumthin to help out, I mean, cain't you git me some cookin' awl (oil), even? Fine'ly somebuddy showed up with some veg'table awl and I slathered up my arm with it and jest stuck it all the way up in thar and started pullin'. I was sweatin' like a pig gettin' that lil' ole' thang out and you could tell that mama goat was in some terrible pain."

I'm sitting with my mouth open at this point and all I could say was, "Was the baby okay?"

"Oh, naw, hunny, it was dead, dead, dead!"

As I was lying in the hospital bed on the second day after my membranes had ruptured all I kept thinking about was that goat!!!!

tuppenceworth · 27/02/2006 14:51

DS was 2 hours 18 minutes early so on his due date I was nursing, bleeding, in agony when peeing and wondering what the hell I'd done and how the hell I was going to cope with this little person totally dependant on me!!

Apparently this is a common feeling! Blush

aprilmeadow · 27/02/2006 16:45

On my due date i decided to paint the bathroom! Ds was 6 days late.

catgirl · 27/02/2006 16:48

on my due date: had dinner at The Ivy! They couldn't have been more attentive (really wanted my waters to break to get a free dinner, but it didn't happen!)

dollybird · 27/02/2006 20:56

DS - probably not a lot - can't remember exactly - he kept me waiting another 16 days

DD - did week's shooping at Tesco's and freaked out the lady on the checkout & her supervisor - like everyone else, that was fun! She was only 11 days late (only!!)- in the hottest summer ever (2003) I couldn't wait another minute esp as I thought I'd have another two days being induced! Was lucky with second induction - it worked after about 6 hours and had 3 hour labour - shame she couldn't tell which way was down - was born breech which was slightly scary!!
