Just wondering what the first thing all you ladies said (or yelled) after giving birth.
My dp has constantly made fun of me since our ds was born in november, as I literally hollered 'it's over!!!!!' ...loud enough for unoccupied midwives at the station to dash in and congratulate us.
Nothing like the teary..'oh my gosh he's beautiful' i expected.
Little did i know it was far from over as i then had retained placenta and had to go into theatre and get a spinal block to have it removed..but thats another story....

With DD
immediately to midwife:
"can I have some tea and toast now" ?

LOl, 3 hour labour from first twinge to baby. time was 7.30am it was my breakfast time :-)

With DS
to self
"he's ugly"
to midwife
"I had forgotten how much it hurts"

After 2 hour labour from start to finish, mainly with DH counting my breathing whilst trying to eat the hospital dinner that had just been delivered! and grumbling about my bad timing.

Albertsmum · 31/01/2006 11:29

My DH spent many hours deciding on what his first words would be to our first born. In the end he opted for:

'Always obey your mother, eat your vegetables and always pass the port to the left' I think the midwife thought he was mad.

All I said was 'Can I have some toast now'

Straightforward · 31/01/2006 12:40

Combination of pregnancy hormones and this thread have had me on the point of tears for about an hour now!

DD - 'Oh my God. Oh my God. Hello you. Oh my God (etc etc)'
then - 'did you get that goat's cheese sandwich for me?' (had craved goats cheese all the way through pregnancy and it had been a standing joke that there would be a sarnie waiting as soon as I'd given birth...)

annobal · 31/01/2006 13:02

DS1 - is he alive? (9 weeks early...)
DS2 - can I have a cup of tea please?

Miaou · 31/01/2006 13:10

Dd1 - "Oh, it's a girl! Hello beautiful"
Dd2 - "What is it? Oh, it's a girl!Hello beautiful"
ds - "hello, beautiful, aren't you lovely...sorry what's that? A boy????!?!?!?!?!?"

KAZ09 · 31/01/2006 13:12

ds1 - "Hello sweetheart" followed by telling the good looking gynaecologist whilst he was stitching me down below (extended epiosotomy)with my legs in the air and still taking gas and air "You won't recognise me if you see me again" much to my horrified dh.
dtwins - Can't remember - Emergency C-section - cried I think that they were breathing (32 weeks) although only got to see ds2 dd whisked away.

dublindee · 31/01/2006 13:36

To DP "Oh Fran it's a boy!" (delivered on to my tummy and they let us discover for ourselves what we'd had which was lovely.) "I KNEW it was!"

To DS "Hello little one - gosh you took you time didn't you?"
To MW "Thank you so much for everything - oh nearly forgot - what time is it?"

I wanted to DS's astrology chart when I got out of hospital and needed the exact time he was born.

kateandfelicity · 31/01/2006 13:41

"NO...WE'RE CALLING HER FELICITY!"

of course dp was not stupid enought to try and argue with me after over 24hours of contractions

hehehe

Auntymandy · 31/01/2006 13:43

after my first I said that wasnt too bad I will have another...had 4 more!!

unicorn · 31/01/2006 13:44

dd.. Is she alright? screamed several times to the theatre staff and dh(awful birth)

ds... hello gorgeous!.. (born at home)

hmmm...that makes interesting reading, it makes me think how I respond to them both, even now.

LouBeeLou · 31/01/2006 13:44

''It's a girl? Really? Are you sure??''

Cue 'doh' look from midwife.

Lilyofthevalley · 31/01/2006 14:01

I had a 21 hour labour and I'd been asleep before giving birth, (thank you epidural) and had an extended episiotomy and very quick ventouse (?) delivery because dd had become distressed. I was just sleeping and the next thing I knew they were all yelling push, push and I did, not quite registering what was going on and suddenly there she was with a big red pope's cap and screaming blue murder and all I said was:
"What just happened?"
Not the teary movie-style introduction to the world I had imagined!

willow2 · 31/01/2006 14:03

"Jesus, I've given birth to an elf." (Ventouse and forceps birth, DS came out with a conehead.)

kate100 · 31/01/2006 14:17

DS1: 'it's a baby, it's a baby, it's a baby!!!!' I don't know why I was so shocked about that.

DS2: 'He's a funny colour', he needed some oxygen and then he went the right colour.

I saw both my placentas too, they were both ENORMOUS, or they seemed to be to me, I was amazed that it all fitted in with my either of my boys who were nearly 10lbs.

sunnydelight · 31/01/2006 14:29

DS1 "He hasn't got any eyes - but that's ok" (they were tight shut )

DS2 "Oh wow!" (homebirth)

DD "Has anyone checked, it is REALLY a girl?" (despite having beeen told so at 12 weeks after a CVS!!!)

Fivefour · 31/01/2006 15:18

DD1 "Oh my God"

DD2 "Wow" then, "She's got that fabulous birth smell too". Don't know if anyone else has noticed that 'just born' smell or if it's just me. Mmmm Fresh baby....It's such a great smell!

I saw both my placentas too and dh took a photo of the midwife holding up the 2nd one. Fascinating!

wowy · 31/01/2006 15:20

hur hur hur. i wanna wiggle my toes
(god how i loved the morpheine) am sorry to report after 6 days and 6 doses of prostin, plus 3 cosultants and a few midwifes in up to their elbow, closely followed by a section i was not that interested in the actuall baby. lol

MerlinsBeard · 31/01/2006 15:29

ds1... to dp: ouch...
nd then to the woman attempting to do my stitches...r u doing a cross stirtch down there

after ds2: to all in the room, see i told u he was coming (no pain relief and they told me not to push coz i hadn't been examined)

babyonboard · 31/01/2006 15:34

lol at 'fresh baby smell'..for the first few days dp insisted ds smelt just like steak...mmm steak..

After DS last August - Well, that's two then - tick that box - big black line under "doing babies" !

Followed by (to my doula) "thanks for shutting the toilet lid" - if she hadn't I would have definitely sat down and given birth in the loo !!

cull · 31/01/2006 16:01

I think i said 'that really hurt' though neither of us can remember. The first thing my husband said was 'it's a boy!!' then he looked at me and said 'you've never looked more beautiful!'

crunchie · 31/01/2006 16:15

DH said of DD2 'OH MY GOD - She looks like your dad!!!' and to be honest she did

DD1 I just held my breath until I heard her cry. Then I looked at DH and I think just smiled, I think we said with our eyes, 'she'll be OK' She was v prem and we weren't sure she would live!!

2Happy · 31/01/2006 16:27

Me to paeds: is he breathing? (he was)
Me to dh: of course he's a boy!
Me to obstetrician: did you do an episiotomy? (like you can have rotational forceps without!)
Obs to me: er, yes.
Me to Obs: oh, so that means I didn't tear then!
Obs to me: er......
Me: bugger
Me to anaesthetist: oooh so it's true, morphine does make your nose itch
Me to ds when finally allowed to see him: too exhausted, drugged up and overwhelmed to remember

Lizzylou · 31/01/2006 16:31

"Why didn't you give me one of those from the start?" (An epidural, I had been in labour for 47 hours and had a LOT of gas and air)

becks5109 · 31/01/2006 16:36

ow my fanny hurts! (charming eh!)
