Just wondering what the first thing all you ladies said (or yelled) after giving birth.
My dp has constantly made fun of me since our ds was born in november, as I literally hollered 'it's over!!!!!' ...loud enough for unoccupied midwives at the station to dash in and congratulate us.
Nothing like the teary..'oh my gosh he's beautiful' i expected.
Little did i know it was far from over as i then had retained placenta and had to go into theatre and get a spinal block to have it removed..but thats another story....

feel so sad at this. My own first words not worth remembering!

Racers · 30/01/2006 22:22

"look at all that hair!"

and have heard it from other people a million times since. Quickly followed by "did you get heartburn?"

alexsmum · 30/01/2006 22:22

remember ds2.." its a boy, give him give him to me " while madly tearing off my t-shirt so could have skin to skin!
the midwife had told me he was a girl and i looked down to see a huge pair of testicles!

dd - not a lot, I was too shocked
ds - oh thank God, he's breathing (yelling his head off as they rushed him off to NICU, actually)

Twiglett - I wanted to see the placentas too! I put it in my birth plan with ds, and then they had to chop up the placenta to get at ds and said it looked like mince by the time they'd done, so I didn't look. So -

next time: "never mind the baby, let me see the placenta!"

snowleopard · 30/01/2006 22:30

I asked to see the placenta, once I'd woken up, cue "what a nutcase" looks all round, but the midwife brought it over in a plastic bag so I had a good look. Was like something that Hugh fearnley-Whittingstall would have something to do with.

dyzzidi · 30/01/2006 22:33

is she ok to one doctor? Did you cut her to surgeon/ ( difficult but planned c section due to past sugeries) i was convinced the were going to cut her????

to DH than god she has not got your nose!

to baby I'm sorry you have noo had much room you can kick now.

JenJam · 30/01/2006 22:37

i kissed him on the head
and said 'heeeloo' in a silly voice

my first thought was 'he looks like my brother - wierd'

Frizbetheexpansionset · 30/01/2006 22:39

Start as you mean to go on - dd had just pooed all over my leg..........got a laugh anyway

muma3 · 30/01/2006 23:00

i was really sore and told them to pull the placenta out downwards
then said omg i have had her???
awwww she looks like a brain !!!
i love you -dp
i love you - dd3

mears · 30/01/2006 23:07

Can't remember with DS1

DS2 - 'he looks like a little pig'

DS3 - take him to the resuscitaire (delivered onto tummy as requested but he wasn't breathing, 5 weeks early)

DD - 'a girl!!' - saw sex for myself

chipmonkey · 30/01/2006 23:58

Ds1 " Oh my God he's very blue!" ( To which the theatrs staff all guffawed that he was lovely and pink)
Ds2 " Oh my God he's the image of ds1!"
Ds3, I was under general anaesthetic, didn't say anything for a while!

edodgy · 31/01/2006 00:15

DD1: "Give her to Mark, Give her to mark (my dp) she's slippy" (was 19 hrs in labour and knackered)

DS: "My little boy, Bloody hell cant believe he came so quick Omg he's mini mark!" (ds born in 40 mins)

janeyhills · 31/01/2006 08:56

can i go home now!!

Melpomene · 31/01/2006 09:09

dd1: can't remember (too spaced out after all-night labour and emergency cs)

dd2: "I want to see her! I want to see her!" (emergency cs, screen up and I couldn't see anything when she came out.) A couple of minutes later after she'd been cleaned up and handed to dh, I remember stroking her shoulder and remarking to dh how incredibly soft her skin was. He said "Yes, marshmallow soft."

fastasleep · 31/01/2006 09:31

'Is he dead?!' to DS one, who was blue and very still and then got carted off for resus lol (he was fine after a few minutes)

and then 'Is she ok? Is she ok? Is she ok? Oh wow she's crying, awwwwwww!' to DD; gas and air had got to me a bit by then and I just went on with the 'is she ok?' for a few more minutes

fastasleep · 31/01/2006 09:35

DS one?! I only have one!! Pfft, brain.

Kelly1978 · 31/01/2006 09:40

dd - hello
ds - u hold him (to dp - I was knackered!)
dts - they're tiny! then, they're so white!

Karmamother · 31/01/2006 09:51

Can't remember what I said after dd was born but I can definately remember what I said before she was born. It was "MY PERINEUM! MY PERINEUM!"
just in case the mw hadn't noticed she was crowning.

trice · 31/01/2006 10:09

Hello Baby, Happy Birthday, I'm your mummy.

almost40 · 31/01/2006 10:16

"Somebody get me a cigarette!" Kidding! That was my first thought though.

DD1: She's Beautiful!

DD2: She's got so much hair!

fairyglo · 31/01/2006 10:50

I just kept saying to dh: "stay with them, stay with them" as the midwives took ds out of theatre to be weighed and apgar checked. I was convinced for some reason he would get swapped or muddled with some other baby if dh didn't stay with him every inch of the way. Lucky I did insist. Ds is blond and blue eyed and dh and I are very dark so glad we didn't let him out of our sight or I would have been worried .
