Once I got those period pains it was labour for me.
DC5 had been faffing around for days with aches and twinges. When they went periody and lower down that was it.
And you are 3 cm!

GO BABY BABY GO BABY GO!

ssmileWithFairylights · 11/12/2011 07:51

Whoohooohoping this is it for you nickle gd luck

bigTillyMincepie · 11/12/2011 07:57

My second DC's birth started with period-type pains, and then progressed onto stronger period-type pains coming in waves. Infact the contractions even at the end were like very bad period pains, whereas for DD it had been horrendous back contractions for hours.

Hopefully it's the start for youXmas Smile

peggyblackett · 11/12/2011 07:57

Woohoo! How exciting. Both my labours have started with horrid period pains, so it does sound like this is it : o.

Come on ISBN!

ElfOnTheShelf · 11/12/2011 07:59

YAY! You've had your 'show', seems today will be the day. Your DH cannot go to Church today unless Church is a few minutes walk away and you can contact him immediately not sure he'll hear the phone while organ playing plus this is just as important a time for him to experience plus you'll need someone to swear at when things really start hurting Grin

I'll be at Church until midday so I'll be checking in then and up until i have to leave.

Morning Nickel, those period pains are definitely early labour, I remember them clearly! They will change and become regular contractions soon so maybe church can miss you today Xmas Grin. Good luck and most important bit of advice I will ever give you (the only piece actually!) is to try and stay as calm as you can and it will help you manage the pain better.

naturalbaby · 11/12/2011 08:05

good luck nickel!
have you done some practice breathing through the pains? slowly up to 15 or 20 if you can manage breathing in then up to 15 (or 20) again breathing out. fill your whole tummy, pretend you're slowly blowing up a balloon or blowing bubbles. imagine the contractions pushing your baby down as you breathe out. focus on the position of the baby and breathing through it. (sorry if you know it, having something to focus on got me through it with no pain relief at all)

BeeBread · 11/12/2011 08:12

My contractions all felt pretty much like period pain - the action was much more "down there" than towards the top of my bump all the way through (I think, hazy memory).

I've been known to get excited about this before but I do think today is the day! Yay!

BeeBread · 11/12/2011 08:14

Oh and if you do decide to have pain relief, in whatever form, don't ever feel disappointed. You do just what you need to do. Xmas Smile

SESthebrave · 11/12/2011 08:21

Good luck Nickel!
All sounds very promising :)

happymole · 11/12/2011 08:22

Fingers crossed this is the start Smile

youtalkintomeunderthemiseltoe · 11/12/2011 08:22

Ooh Nickel you're in labour! FWIW I never had contractions that were timeable at the start of labour just pains like you describe, by the time they were regular it was all go and there was no point bothering as i was pretty much in established labour. Good luck, i'm hoping i'll be joining you later

nickelbabe · 11/12/2011 08:27

so, I'm awake because DH has got up - I'm not making this a regular thing! Grin

These period pains, they've been mainly (for the past hour since I last updated), moaning along in the background, allowing me to doze, then they ramp up a it, so I can't sleep, then die back down again. Is that contractions?
Confused
I'm not going in the bath at the moment, because that would mean leaving the lovely snuggly warmth of my bed to get wet. don't like the sound of that.

DH is going to church, because he's promised to help our soloist for next week's carol service practise her verse, and then take her home at the end (which means he has to organise with the Church warden another adult to go with him); and there's a couple who want us to sing at their wedding in the summer who are comign to the service, so he needs to be there for that.
I can't imagine anything significant will happen in the 2 hours he'll be away, so that's okay.

It's really weird that after all this, I look like I'm going to get my HB after all!
(the bag is packed - it's currently in the car, but I'm getting DH to get it out before he goes, just in case I ned it while he's gone!)

nickelbabe · 11/12/2011 08:32

Elf the church is only 10 minutes' walk away, but he's taking the car (to drop the soloist off), so he's right close if I need him. I feel ike it's quite a way off, anyway, so I'll just rest as much as I can before it all kicks off.
(his phonewill flash if it goes off)

It doesn't feel very urgent at this stage, just extremely annoying. Grin

REally? You're massively over due and your DH is off to church???? Hope your vicar is coming back with God and a midwife!!! Grin

If this is the measure of you nickel you will make a fabulous mother!

McPhee · 11/12/2011 08:32

Best of luck nickelbabe Smile

SylviaBells · 11/12/2011 08:34

I've been seeing your threads popping up for a few days and had a peek every now and then, I'm so glad that things are happening, very best of luck and hopefully by this evening you will be a mum Smile

nickelbabe · 11/12/2011 08:35
Grin DH has to put the time in with God, because he gets a rainy day on his days off (very important to a postman Grin ) - everyoen at his office gets annoyed that it chucks it down, but he just tells them that he puts the time in with the Big Boss, so it's his reward Grin

My waters went within 3 hours od dc2 and 3 being born Grin.

My show (not that I knew what that was) came 15 hours before dc2 was born.

I am at home today, nickel, if you need anything though I have just remembered you have your friend here so won't need a stalker stranger.

nickelbabe · 11/12/2011 08:41

thanks Grin

Morning Nickel - :) Yaya Isbn is on the way. I feel for your DH today having to fend off the 'ooh, where is Nickel? Has she had that baby yet?' comments.

Finger crossed things go quickly and smoothly and you get the birth you have wanted all along.

ASuitableGirl · 11/12/2011 08:48

Hoping today will be the day Smile

ChocChipMisteltoeAndWine · 11/12/2011 08:48

Hi. I've been lurking for days and can't wait to hear the good news that you are at last a mummy. This time last year I was in your boat (although I chose to be induced after 5 days as ds was big - good decision as dd was 10lb 9) and it is lovely to have a tiny baby for Christmas.

Good luck. Fingers crossed this is it you are so relaxed letting dh go off to church I can't believe it.
