Good luck nickel & pseudo

nickelbabe · 11/12/2011 02:17

I haven't been sleeping, but nothing's happened yet.
It's worse tonight, because I keep waking up listening/feeling out for contractions!
I have slept a bit - I know I wokr up at midnight and I've just woken up now, (well, after a bit of tossing and turning)

I was hoping that getting up and walking rouns a bit might do something (yes, i know i should be trying to sleep while I can, but i'm convinced this is yet another false start)
sitting here, boobs ache a little bit and back's a bit sore, but no pressure down below.
It's all getting rather annoying.
Why the bloody hell can't something start?!

thanks for eassurances on waters breaking - that's god to know, but I hope that if they don't , it is because they're cushioning and not because my body's waiting for them to go before it actually believes it's supposed to do some work.
Or something that makes sense in English.
I feel a bit sick too, so I might hunt out some indegestion tablets and see if i can gp back to sleep.

nan-night again.
:)

Go back to bed for a bit now Nickel :)

saffronwblue · 11/12/2011 02:31

Even if your mind is racing, lying in bed is still a rest for your body.

adewonder · 11/12/2011 04:12

Insomnia rocks...not.
It's got to come out at some point, so try turning your mind off with whatever works for you. I'm very controlling, so over think everything..I'm trying very hard to relax and let things (labour) come in their own time. So spending lots of time fantasising about lottery win enabling me to start art/kitten therapy community centre....
I never thought I'd be looking forward to labour.
Everything will go well nickel, and I think having all these discussions on here throughout all the processes will have helped others going through similar, so you've done good.
Even if your positive mental attitude falters at some point before the finish line, there's a fair few hundred (thousand?)who will be beaming you theirs.

Wormshuffler · 11/12/2011 04:21

Did anyone see that story on the news about the shark that was in labour for 3 weeks ;)

HighHeidYin · 11/12/2011 04:39

Exciting nickel - won't be long now as it does sound like things are starting to happen! Hopefully you are catching some sleep before it all kicks off!

Incidentally my four were all overdue by 2wks. They did each eventually vacate the premises after being forcibly evicted.

Pseudo, hope things are moving all for you too. Remember having the pessaries. Did take a while for them to take effect iirc.

Eek! All these imminent new arrivals! So lovely.

aubergineinautumn · 11/12/2011 05:17

Can you try to sleep upright? Gravity can do the hard work for you.

MrsSnaplegs · 11/12/2011 06:01

Morning nickel - so much fort lie inGrin how are you?

weevilswobble · 11/12/2011 06:57

Morning Nickel, feel like i'm butting in as i've not contributed, but feel i'd just be repeating someone else, or not be as wise or informative as others. But how many days 'over' is it now?
Hope you have a good day.

JKSLtd · 11/12/2011 07:09

Morning Nickel hope things are progressing.

I couldn't remember your dates so looked at last thread you said 40+10 on the 6th, soooo you must be 40+15? now? Is that 42+1?

Come on ISBN!!

bigTillyMincepie · 11/12/2011 07:12

Hope you got some sleep, or that somethings's moving?!

nickelbabe · 11/12/2011 07:15

Wormshuffler - that sounds like me Grin

weevils - today (sunday) is 15 days over.

I've been "awake" for about an hour with bloody horrible period pains - waving up and down, constantly.
Trying to find a pattern and work out what it might be.

Anyway, it got too much to bear, so I thought, right, I'll go to the toilet, grab a paracetomol and see if I can sleep for a bit. (it's definitely not contractions, yet, because it didn't go back down, iyswim)
Anyway, I went to the toilet and there was my "bloody show".
(i put that in quotation marks because otherwise it looked like I was swearing!)
urgh. Grin
anyway, that's why it hurts like period pains, so I've fed the cats, got the chickens up (seriously, why are they awake? it doesn't even look like dawn! Shock) and am updating you.
So now I'll try to go back to bed, and hope that a) the period pains subside a bit and b) they turn into contractions before I have to go to church.
It would be a shame at this point to feel I have to go to church! Wink

(don't worry, I'm joking, there's no bloody way I feel like I can go to church today - and something's got to happen before this afternoon, because I do not want to be not-quite-labouring so have to go to Medway anyway.
:)

nickelbabe · 11/12/2011 07:16

btw, i think i've changed my mind about this whole birth thing - if a bloody show can hurt this much, I don't want to go through labour

saffronwblue · 11/12/2011 07:17

All righttt! Sounds like things are happening...

MrsSnaplegs · 11/12/2011 07:20

Nickel - certainly second time round it was period type pains for me for a good 6 hours with proper contractions then for about 3 before delivery - first DC it was all in my back for hours - 12+ - and then about 5 hours of stuff that took my breath away but I was in a pool so it was easier.
Why not go and have a long wallow in the bathSmile

JKSLtd · 11/12/2011 07:20

Lol Nickel quite common to decide at this point you don't fancy itafter all Grin

Flisspaps · 11/12/2011 07:21

Too much to bear is a good sign I think! That's more than i ever got with DD and she was finally evicted at 42+2 so it seems things might actually be happening! Enjoy your sleep Smile

Flisspaps · 11/12/2011 07:25

It's thought water (bath or pool) can slow down early labour so if this IS it, then a bath might be comfy but could slow or stop things completely at this point.

NorksAreMessy · 11/12/2011 07:31

Oooh, BABY DAY!

If you could manage to produce ISBN at 12 minutes and 11 seconds past 11am, s/he would have a really geek-friendly birth time 11:12:11 11/12/11

I am sure you will bear his in mind :o

Wishing you all the very best, and seconding the bath suggestion for these very early stages. Annoying though that you have to be on your back and relatively still in the bath and you can't put he tens machine on :(

NorksAreMessy · 11/12/2011 07:32

And you really don't need to go to church. Will DH need to go, or does he have an emergency stand-in for this morning?

thanksamillion · 11/12/2011 07:38

Go Nickel, go Baby Isbn!

In the light of your 'no piano' comments at the hospital I was wondering what the strangest things that anyone had taken into the delivery ward was. Someone must have a good story Grin

Tangle · 11/12/2011 07:38

All good signs :)

With DD1 I had a latent phase that lasted about a week (for me that included show getting increasingly bloody and intermittent strong BH's - but that was just me). Once I got to period campy back ache that was very definitely the start of active labour - lasted about an hour before regular contractions kicked in. DD popped out 7 hrs later. I found the back ache harder to deal with than the contractions.

If you feel like you can rest, get thee back to bed woman! If not have you got a gym ball to bounce on? Or just keep pottering - now could be an opportune time to make sure everything's in birth bag (just in case - I wound up transferring in after the birth and DH had to try and pack essentials on the fly as I hadn't got round to it Blush - but we coped) and to dig out TENS if you were going to use one.

Fingers crossed for you that things progress and the nice MW's are coming out to see you before too much longer :o

ZhenTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 11/12/2011 07:44

How exciting! Sounds like the beginnings of labour even if the contractions aren't regular yet, a good idea to get some sleep now while you can. You will need that rest later.

Bath in early labour can slow things down, if you have a shower attachment you could get DH to run it in circles over your back for some relief instead of a bath.

Don't go to church, rest, eat, walk about a bit either up and down stairs or in nearby streets. Listen to all that music you wanted to have on, DH can play piano, and remember to breathe :)

Slightlytinsellyexpat · 11/12/2011 07:44

Well done, Nickel. Today's the day. Just go with the flow.

I thought exactly what Norks said, does your DH have a stand-in this morning? Is your friend still staying with you?
