Don't panic, try to relax and nice deep breaths get your dh and call labour ward so as they can send you a Mw.

minceorotherwise · 11/12/2011 10:16

Yes, you're doing so well. Call DH make sure he is on his way. Even if it's a while yet, you need to feel safe and not worried about anything

saffronwblue · 11/12/2011 10:17

Ring the midwife

JingleyBalls · 11/12/2011 10:17

Ooo Nickel! Good luck!

Have you called the MW yet to come out?

Hopefully ISBN will be here before tea time, if not dinner time.

gallicgirl · 11/12/2011 10:17

You'll be fine. Keep calm and keep mobile. Get the tens on and can someone please Google a contraction timer app for nickelbabe? If worst comes to the worst, call an ambulance but keep insisting on a midwife.

Sparklingbaubles · 11/12/2011 10:18

Yes there is always 999 if it comes to that. Keep calm.

Blatherskite · 11/12/2011 10:18

Don't panic. Stay calm. You can do this - no choice now Wink

Good luck Nickel

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 11/12/2011 10:19

PHONE shop friend - tell her what's going on - if she's a HB expert, she's a very good person to talk to right now! She will be able to reassure you, keep you calm and get there as quick as she can to help you. And phone your DH!

Good Luck Nickelbabe Smile

nickelbabe · 11/12/2011 10:19

it feels like the strong (long ones) ones are 8 minutes apartm, and then there are less strong ones (shorted ones) inbetween.
so, they are 4 minutes, but only strong every 8 minutes.
if that makes sense.

Sounds like things are well on their way. Wishing you the very best of luck Nickel Xmas Smile

Pantofino · 11/12/2011 10:19

Have you got nice neighbours? Can you get someone to come round and sort the phone calls?

ConfessionsOfATinselFanjo · 11/12/2011 10:20

Are you really home alone Nickel? Shock!! You need your DH so you have hands to hold (and squeeze the day lights out of).

I would say get in the bath, but not if you're alone. Get that tens on!

ISawPINOTSnoggingSantaClaus · 11/12/2011 10:20

FreddieMercurysBolero · 11/12/2011 10:20

Call your DH. Its okay, its normal to feel a bit panicky. And its good to have someone with you if youlie feeling a bit scared. Best of luck, pet.

JKSLtd · 11/12/2011 10:20

Nickel - i had ones like that with DS1; later on, if they stay like that try and use the stronger ones for more effective pushing :)

youtalkintomeunderthemiseltoe · 11/12/2011 10:21

When labour comes on it can be quite panicky feeling after having lots of pre labour as you often expect that's what it will feel like. Deep breaths hoola hoop movements through contractions and blow like your blowing a candle out.

nickelbabe · 11/12/2011 10:21

ow and now Isbn is trying to escape out of the top!
It's really pressing on me!

ANd you may be unwittingly holding your breath making you feel light-headed adding to the feeling of panic, make sure to breathe properly, allow lots of oxygen in.

You are doing brilliantly :)

youtalkintomeunderthemiseltoe · 11/12/2011 10:22

Generally contractions are better counted in ten mins so how many in ten, tbh I'd forget about timing and work on getting dh and getting through them.

Sparklingbaubles · 11/12/2011 10:22

All of Mumsnet breathing with Nickel in unison. Smile

MrsSnaplegs · 11/12/2011 10:23

Is DH on way back I not get your friend round to support you? We're here but you need someone in the same building as you not over tethernet!Grin try and relax and keep breathing through the contractions

Tangle · 11/12/2011 10:23

Don't panic - breathe.

  • Your friend's on her way and will be there soon.
  • Your DH's not far - give him a call. God will understand, the wedding couple can reschedule and someone else can get the soloist home.
  • If the front door is locked, unlock it.
  • Stay at home. If things are just a bit overwhelming you've got some time. If things are really moving far better of to be somewhere warm and safe where people can find you easily.

Is there a neighbour who could come hold your hand till our friend or DH get there?

TheOldestCat · 11/12/2011 10:23

How far away is DH and/or your friend? I'm about 10 miles from you I think (in Fav) and have had a homebirth, so shout if you need me.
