part 2 of the "not-live-birth-thread"

How come I can conceive and carry through a pregnancy but I can't finish one?

On twiddling, I did each nipple in turn for 15 minutes each for an hour in total. Thinking back, I might even have done both at the same time for the last 10 mins or so, even though you're not supposed to but I was getting desperate.

By the end it felt a bit crampy - like a woman's period - then stood up and my waters went.

Sparklingbaubles · 06/12/2011 22:41

Night, Nickel.

PacificDogwood · 06/12/2011 22:43

Nickel, should, I say should, not that it will, come to induction for you, I just want to add that my induction at T+15 (I caved!) was a perfectly lovely birth experience. Medicalised, yes; whole pyramid of interventions did happen, but I felt in control, was v excited and he arrived in a timely manner.

I can recommend pushing a 5 year old who is just learning to cycle without stabilisers as a labour inducer btw - you have to run while pushing said bike, but labour within 24 hours is odd-on Wink!

BeeBread · 06/12/2011 22:45

Re expressing, you learn where the little pockets are after a while and if you press on then you can get super jets of milk. Not just on the areola but there are "sweet spots" dotted around the whole boob (which you can use once you've had your let down and are in full swing).

I used to do that to sped up feeds sometimes and as DS got older I'd find him pummelling my boobs - for the same effect I guess!

sazzermol · 06/12/2011 22:48

Mmm all this talk of nipple cheeses is making me queasy

MyDogAteMyMincePies · 06/12/2011 23:05

I hope you have your baby tomorrow, it's my birthday Xmas Smile.

NorksAreMessy · 06/12/2011 23:06

I think blathers has something there.

If we all have a MASS 'buy-loads-of-books-from-Nickel's-shop-so-she-has-the-busiest-day-ever-and-so-ISBN-can-see-lots-of-books-being-posted-about-the place-and-might-want-to-come-out-and-join-in-or-just-be-curious-and-also- sods-law-might-come-into-play-that-she-has-so-much-to-do-and-can't-do-it-because-she-is-busy-pushing-a-person-out-of-her-underbeneathsies' day it might help.

I pathetically bought an out of stock caterpillar to start the process. Off you go.....

GeekLove · 06/12/2011 23:17

I was 40+9 with DS2. I know you find the thought of someone rummaging around your fanjo gross but you could have a go at tickling the cervix yourself. It's sort of in the direction of your back passage.
Make sure your nails are short and your hands are clean though. I combined that with the nipple twiddling g as well.

going to bed, hoping babyNickel joins us for breakfast!!

chocolateyclur · 06/12/2011 23:30

I'm dreading going into labour tomorrow (only 40 +4) as have too many important things to do, so you can have my spot. Please. Knowing that, I would sleep easier tonight.

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 06/12/2011 23:33

chocolatey, you do know that you've just completely set yourself up for labour tonight/tomorrow, don't you? Xmas Wink

Nickel, yes, I used to have to turn the pump to press on different areas when the first ones slowed down - very interesting to watch!

nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 02:53

bless ya, Norks Grin

Well, I've been having a bad night's sleep so far.
I tried to come on and post this about an hour ago, but the bleddy broadband was reufsing to work Confused

chocolatey - i've been saying that for weeks - it hasn't made the blindest bit of difference!

anyway, I've had constant "period cramps" all night, and I've been really hot and sweaty.
I've now got a bit of backache too, but that seems to always ramp up when I'm in the study, so I'm guessing it's more down to seating posture. Mabe i should just stay here...
I'm startng to get worried that i've just been poisoned...

If it were real period pain, i could just take some ibuprofen and go back to sleep.

also, i'm getting increasingly worried about the lack of middle name on all my maternity paperwork.
Because the booking-in midwife didn't put it on the form, everything i've had is just my first and last names, no middle name in sight.
Noone ever asked me my middle name, so i never thought to quesrion it, but I always quote my middle name when I'm asked my name for security/medical/indentification purposes, so what if they don't believe i'm me?

I think it's because when I rang up to book my booking-in, i jsut said my firstand last names, becaue I thought it was jsut for the appointment purposes. It was already filled in when I got there, so she just confirmed that was my name anddidn't ask if i had a middle name.
[worried]

Hi nickel just posting to mark my place as the insomniac child is awake again ..
Anyone would think there was an electric current under the Moses basket mattress cos as soon as I put him down he screams.
Sleeping in our bed however seems to suit him fine..

usingapseudonym · 07/12/2011 03:25

Just missed you. I've just woken for my nightly wake up ! Sounds like your body is doing more than mine is ! I'm not overly convinced by nipple tweaking. Must have missed out on the making that a pleasurable thing memo! My pre_labour I thought I was in when I joined nickel appears to have not happened. Come on nickel - if i'm not going to get to give birth naturally I want to live vicarously through you !

usingapseudonym · 07/12/2011 03:28

Girls -our baby was the same. If you were carrying her and even made to sit down she'd cry or somehow she knew she was being put in her moses basket however long she'd been asleep in arms for. We ended up co sleeping . . . ! However it worked for us and we have a sidecar cot for this one so we can again !

youtalkintome · 07/12/2011 03:49

Hello, anyone up? I have the worst heartburn and no gaviscon leftSadcan't sleep. Absolutely no signs of imminent labour and I usually have a long latent labour stage which makes me think that we're not even talking the next 5 days.

CuriosityCola · 07/12/2011 03:49

Nickel, hope u got back to sleep ok. You can take paracetamol if needed or put the tens back on. It is sounding very positive. Speak to you some more in the morning.

Jacksmania · 07/12/2011 04:11

Holy shit, still no nickelbaby??? That's some cork you've got in there. I've been away at a seminar and was sure I'd come back to a birth announcement!
Well. The night shift is officially on duty. Just waiting for my pal fionamaryan to show up. We'll handle this birth!

usingapseudonym · 07/12/2011 04:15

Gosh being half awake led me to an overuse of! Now i'm embarrassed. Done an hour of pointless nipple stimulation now back to sleep

Meant to say I am sure lack of middle name on notes is no problem :-)

Jacksmania · 07/12/2011 05:02

Good god, an HOUR of nipple stim? YeeeeeeeeeeeOUCH!!!

JKSLtd · 07/12/2011 05:47

Checking in, hope you got some sleep Smile

RnB · 07/12/2011 06:21

Good luck! Another one born at 40+16. Induced unfortunately, but would have gone longer as was so determined to have my homebirth. Alas the scan to check she had enough amniotic fluid around her discovered there was 3 times too much so had to be induced immediately. No wonder I had backache!
