there.
part 2 of the "not-live-birth-thread"

How come I can conceive and carry through a pregnancy but I can't finish one?
Confused

actually, i know two women who got 24 hrs or more into induction to find their babies were breech (with resultant c.s) - asking for a scan prior to induction isn't a bad idea.

Poledra · 07/12/2011 21:46

Pseudo, I was induced for DD3, 4.5 years after an em c-s with DD1 and a VBAC with DD2. The induction was, by far, the best of my three births. I did have to go straight to the drip, as my hospital did not use pessaries on VBACers, and I chose to have an epidural (though it was quite clearly my choice - both the MW and the obs registrar were very clear on that) but it was brilliant, and DD3 came out with the minimum of fuss, and the MW got me to catch her myself and pull her up onto me and ohhhhh, it was just fabulous .

It can be a marvellous thing, induction Smile

PS Nickel, you still here? Ye gods woman, get on with it!

PacificDogwood · 07/12/2011 21:54

Hope you're sleeping too, nickel or having a baby

nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 22:05

Daydreaming - "However, I don't think it's wise to refuse daily monitoring after 42 weeks. "
The NICE guidelines state "at least twice weekly" - that, added to the ball-ache of getting to Medway (which really can take about an hour to do an 8 mile journey, even at quiet times of the day) is the biggest reason why I'm happy to agree to every-other-day, but not daily.

OP posts:
YougreatChristmaspudding · 07/12/2011 22:06

Did you get a nap Nickel?

minceorotherwise · 07/12/2011 22:09

Did they recommend daily monitoring? Did they say why? ( if they did)

nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 22:11

I can still run Pol Grin

Anyway, all of this is academic, because they're not going anywhere near me until the 42 weeks is up officially.
Then we'll see.
But I've seen enough anecdotal evidence on here to convince me that allowing things to happen at their own pace is okay.
If nature needs a helping hand, I'm sure I'll know about it.
I'm not so stubborn that I would risk my life or Isbn's life.

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 22:13

I did get a nap, thanks!

mince
I was told that I would have to go to Medway every day for monitoring.
I was not given a specific reason why, and I didn't ask at that stage, because it was too far away to worry about (and hell, at that stage, I had tightenings while I was talking to the MW!)
And also, at that stage, the MW didn't seem worried about anything anyway.

Once I've refused the induction, I have to ring the MW, and the next stages will be discussed then.

Hope it gets going soon and all becomes irrelevant!

Hi nickel been lurking and kept thinking there was no point posting as you'd be sure to be busy in labour by now Wink.

Anyway I'll join the other viroids in wishing you best of luck (or just hurry up??!) and hope you get the lovely home birth you want, but mostly just hope that Isbn arrives soon happily and healthily Smile.

nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 22:24

thank you Nelly - i see the eggnog is taking the edge off your nerves? Grin

Sparklingbaubles · 07/12/2011 22:24

This is the plan. You wake up in the early hours having very strong contractions. By the time I am unzipping my virtual sleeping bag in the morning, you will be cuddling that naughty baby and running your name choices past us. Deal or no deal? Grin

FunnysInTheGarden · 07/12/2011 22:26

btw another good induction story. Went to hospital at 40 +11 with DS2, had the pessaries then they gave me something to help me sleep at about 10pm, had a nice snooze, woke at 6am with contractions and had DS2 at 8am after some G&A. He was a ventouse birth as was his brother, but really calm lovely birth. Please don't worry about 'intervention' if it is necessary.

Hope all your babies come soon!

EggNogNelly · 07/12/2011 22:27

Haha very clever Grin

actually 16 months of failed TTC is taking the edge off my nerves and my post-christmas name is likely to be FuckingFedUpOfNeverGettingPregnantNelly

usingapseudonym · 07/12/2011 22:34

Thanks for the good induction stories :-) right nickel we need to get into labour tonight :-)

cowboylover · 07/12/2011 22:36

Hiya Nickel!

I have not been on in ages and here you are on the most active thread. I have tried to catch up. so just to say hello and send hugs x

Get0rf · 07/12/2011 22:37

Oh sweetheart.

This must all be exhausting.

Just to add my two-pennorth amongst all the other induction stories (NOT telling you what you should do, mind, just to say it may not be the end of the world if that does happen).

I had a sweep. It didn't hurt at all, but it didn't do anything either.

Was induced when dd was 12 days late. I had a pessary gel. 6 hours of eating sandwiches and watching Ready Steady Cook in the day room. I couldn't feel any contracttions, just a mild backache like when you have been sat in a car too long.

The put me on monitors, but after 10 minutes of lying there hating it, asked for them to be taken off so I could go to the loo. When I came back I said I didn't want them back on. Midwife was fine.

Midwife examined me - I was 4cm dilated! They broke my waters - one of the best parts of the labour. I laughed my head off, it didn't hurt at all.

Straight into full on contractions, every couple of minutes or so. After about 30 mins of me pacing around shouting, I had the urge to push. Was examined, 10cms, had a strange transition where I shouted at all and sundry, then straight into pushing.

It didn't hurt from then on - pushing was hard work and exhausting, but wasn't painful at all, and very relaxed and friendly with the 2 lovely midwives (or 1 midwife and 1 health care assistant, I can't remember). It did sting a bit when crowning (midwife = do you want to see the head, me = do I FUCK).

Anyway to cut a long and boring story short, dd was born 1 hour and 10 mins from breaking waters, no hassle, no tears or cuts, and just a bit of gas and air. It was a wonderful experience, and I DREADED induction.

Let's hope that things move for you soon xxxx

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 07/12/2011 22:38

Nickel - is ISBN going to go into the shop with you when you go back to work?

Sparklingbaubles · 07/12/2011 22:58

Night all. Fingers crossed for lots of imminent arrivals.

LikeAnAdventCandleButNotQuite · 07/12/2011 22:59

And arent you tempted to name ISBN with names which make up these initials> Isabelle Sophia Beatrice Nancy Surname / Isaac Samuel Bertie Norman

I'd be tempted Blush

nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 23:00

sorry Nelly :(
It'll happen (or you could always adopt...)

there was someone on here earlier (not sure if it was my thread, other threads are available) that was waiting 2 years to conceive. :)

I keep lurking checking in to see if anything has happened yet!

Nickel- I really didn't want to be induced, but had high blood pressure, and they finally talked me into being induced as it was going to be over the holidays, and they had no open clinic to monitor me. I ranted and railed at DH the night before, cried and stropped, then went into labour myself that very night- hoorah!

I'm not saying induction is a bad thing, btw, but it wasn't what I wanted I believe the threat of it sent me into labour- maybe it will do the same for you Grin Fingers crossed!

nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 23:04

thanks GetOrf
Chipping - yes, it will go to the shop with me (fine while it's a baby, but how the hell will I entertain a toddler all day? Confused )

Tempting Grin

Right, Bedtime.
DH is shouting "are you going to come and put me to bed?" Grin

FIngers crossed this ache in my belly is not poo but baby coming out (i know it's poo, I'll be up to relieve it in a couple of hours Shock )

nan-night all.
Let's hope the morning bring at least one baby (it's likely to be pseu's though....)

Come on ISBN!

Maybe you could try a long ride on a donkey to start things off - seemed to work for Mary!

If you do go past 42 weeks would the midwife come out to see you on the days that you were not being seen at the hospital? It wouldn't be as thorough a check up as at the hospital and I don't think she'd be able to check the placental function but at least she'd be able to check the baby's heartbeat and your BP.
