part 2 of the "not-live-birth-thread"

How come I can conceive and carry through a pregnancy but I can't finish one?

Glad to hear DH is ok Nickel. Calm DH is a very good thing to have. Wink

youtalkintomeunderthemiseltoe · 07/12/2011 20:04

Listen if you think a sweep is going to be too uncomfortable you may want to rethink that natural birth plan Wink.

I'm on my third an they are absolutely fine, i find them strangely pleasing in the sense that i know they are doing something and really not painful at all just a ohh sort of discomfort.

TheOriginalFAB · 07/12/2011 20:05

Please don't feel we are telling you what to do, nickel.

I think Nickel knows what she wants. Smile Please let it be soon.

TheOriginalFAB · 07/12/2011 20:10

Okay then, some of us are not!

Grin.

JKSLtd · 07/12/2011 20:11

I'll tell you what to do Nickel...go for that nap Grin

If you feel you can sleep, sleep
ditto eat, eat
ditto walk a 5 mile hike
ditto whatever really - you are in a rare position of being able to do what suits you when it suits you (well apart form work obv!), make the most of it :)

HarderToKidnap · 07/12/2011 20:12

Have you read the Cochrane review on sweeps? summaries.cochrane.org/CD000451/membrane-sweeping-for-induction-of-labour

It's really quite common to decline a sweep. I would say at least one fifth of the women I offer it to end up saying no.

Another day of niggly period pains over here. Can't wait for contractions!!

I don't think it's at all silly or irresponsible to want to avoid induction. That is also my plan if I go overdue with DC2 (currently 25+5)
However, I don't think it's wise to refuse daily monitoring after 42 weeks. To me, that would be a must. Have heard too many horror stories to want to take that risk. I hope you would reconsider this, if you get to 42 weeks that is.

ExquisiteChristmasCake · 07/12/2011 20:32

Nickel, remember my thread only a few days ago?

I went for a wee nap and had a baby by 4am, your body will prepare you in amazing ways.

Bollocks to intervention, do what makes you most comfortable...that'll make a world of difference!!

usingapseudonym · 07/12/2011 20:37

I'm getting anxious about intervention (I hate hospitals, drips, anything). I have had a c section and a big baby so its not straightforward (I'd refuse induction for a while if I were Nickel but go for daily monitoring personally - but then my first induction experience was pretty bad...!)

I don't know what to do this time :( Consultant tomorrow and no idea what to think :(

brandysoakedbitch · 07/12/2011 20:40

Oh yes I have been for a nap and then had a baby shortly afterwards,,, good luck sweetheart

FWIW - I had had a few sweeps in my time and not painful and waters have not been broken accidentally were very bulging when I had my last two babies....

best of luck x

DaydreamingOfAWhiteXmasDolly · 07/12/2011 20:42

Pseudo, all you can do is voice your concerns and take their advice. My consultant knows I want to avoid induction this time but has warned me that he would rather do 100 unnecessary inductions than risk the health of the baby, or mother.
Don't hold back, they will hopefully be able to put your mind at rest. Good luck!

usingapseudonym · 07/12/2011 20:49

Scared scared scared now :( :(

youtalkintomeunderthemiseltoe · 07/12/2011 20:57

pseudo don't be scared 2 births are rarely the same ask for a couple extra days if that helps, besides your baby us going to pop out tonight as is mine!

DaydreamingOfAWhiteXmasDolly · 07/12/2011 20:58

Dont be scared, think of that lovely snuggly newborn you'll have safely in your arms very very soon Smile
You'll be fine, I'm sure they can reassure you. There's nothing to say for sure that this birth will be as tricky as the other two. (two? One?)

YougreatChristmaspudding · 07/12/2011 20:59

I wanted no intervention but needed to be induced, I found that as soon as I relaxed and focused on the outcome - a live, healthy baby - rather than focussing on avoiding intervention things, things moved along quickly and DD1 was born 7 hours later with no further intervention and minimal interference from anyone.

EdlessAllenPoe · 07/12/2011 21:01

pseudo is there anything that you can ask for in that consultation, in the way of birth plan, that would make it better ? Are there specific things that you could rule out?

Pantofino · 07/12/2011 21:04

I was induced at 40+10. The pessaries took 2 days to work. But Nickelbabe, you have had lots of warming up stuff. The only thing I had in advance was "nipples on fire". I am a bit neurotic but would be wanting a medical opinion by now,,,,

Pantofino · 07/12/2011 21:07

I guess I am with Shiney - that you can concentrate too much on the principle ie natural delivery, whereas overall NONE of us can guarantee that. Better for the baby that you get checked out.

usingapseudonym · 07/12/2011 21:08

I'm really not sure. I don't want induction or c section which I think is my choice. I don't think I can have the gel (vbac) but the drip which means tied to a bed and they prefer an epidural too I think.

I just haven't thought it through properly before now as I thought I would naturally go into labour but ought to before tomorrow. Hmm.

Will just have to go in and see what they say!

Figgyrollsintoapudding · 07/12/2011 21:11

My MW gave me a sweep to try and get things moving with dc2 so I that I a got my consultant and mw before they both fucked off on holiday and so that they didn't have a plan to induce me which would have meant another potential emcs. Didn't do much I don't think as he just wanted to come regardless (hadn't actually packed my hospital bag Blush). But I got to hospital and mw did break my waters, she actually had a bit of difficulty doing it and did say they would never have gone on their own at home on the bed Grin they were really tough Smile I was always resigned to intervention due to my old hospital trust not allowing breach births naturally and dc1 was breach............right frigging up to week sodding 39+4 then she turned and I had no idea about the whole natural childbirth thing but was hit with pre-eclampsia - don't think she wanted to to the natural no pain thing.........drugs and more drugs oh yeah baby! Dc2, well that menace only just let me get to the g & a and arrived after I told the mw that he was there and she said "oh no dear, I checked a minute ago and you weren't fully dilated" two rather easy pushes later out he flew and was caught by the assistant mw Grin. Feisty little menace!

Figgyrollsintoapudding · 07/12/2011 21:13

pseudo - go in a book a csec, was going to discuss with my consultant a date for csec and was in the hospital at the appointment time, just with a babe in arms rather than a bump Grin

Pantofino · 07/12/2011 21:34

I had sweeps and a pessary induction. There is nothing overtly invasive or horrible about it. Honestly once labour starts these things become nothing in the scheme of things. I weed on the bed and when they asked me if I needed the loo, I told them that, Blush. I honestly would not refuse a recommended induction or monitoring because it might interfere with my hopes.
