there.
part 2 of the "not-live-birth-thread"

How come I can conceive and carry through a pregnancy but I can't finish one?
Confused

first thread

I am now officially 40+10.

nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 11:20

No, i don't want to do anything that might compromise my natural delivery.
Unless something goes horribly wrong, I want to avoid all intervention.

(i'll put that on my plan, too)

Yeah I bet Akiram's baby was properly wrinkly.

nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 11:22

I'm making a word document outlining what I will and won't let them do.

this is what I've got so far:

Ante-natal care for nickelbabe, if Pregnancy goes to 40+12
(Thursday 8th December 2011)

I will call Medway to tell them I am refusing an induction.
I will then call Rose (Memorial) and let her know that I have refused induction

After this, my wishes are:

I do not want any investigations or examinations until 42 weeks has past (that will be Saturday 10th December 2011)
1 I am happy for you to do a VE (once!) to see what's going on.

2 Do not even think about doing a membrane sweep. I do not want a membrane sweep at any stage.

3 I am happy to have the monitoring thing done every other day.
(monitoring the fetal heart activity using a cardiotocograph (CTG) and an ultrasound scan, which will be used to assess several factors, including amniotic fluid volume and fetal activity)

4 but only if this is external ? I do not want any further investigations vaginally at least until I am in established labour.

5 Unless something goes horribly wrong, I do not want any intervention.
This includes drugs, pessaries, sweeps and anything else that might interfere with the natural process.

I went
40 + 15
40 + 13
40 + 14

with my DC's (not mentioning DC4 as he was different!)
Good Luck

Akiram · 07/12/2011 11:27

nickel I think that sounds fair and explicit.
I wish with my first I had been stronger but I was young naive and single. When I had my second I was alot more vocal about how I wanted things to happen but the bottom line was always "if me or baby is in distress do whatever it takes".

FellatioNelson · 07/12/2011 11:29

Nickel, right, this is my plan. Book a hairdresser's appointment for something really long and complicated, like two coloured highlights. Something that would be disastrous and highly inconvenient if you went into labour halfway through. That should surely do it.

Or get on a sleeper train to Edinburgh where there are no stops for about 200 miles at a time. That will work for sure.

LadyWellian · 07/12/2011 11:33

Yes Nickel, that sounds very clear and reasonable. Do you have community midwives? I found that helped in the whole avoiding induction business, as they were much more pro-natural birth than the hospital would have been.

MissIngaFewbaubles · 07/12/2011 11:42

nickel, been lurking for a while. can I suggest booking an induction? DD1 arrived (12 days late) about 5 minutes before I was meant to be in the hospital to start induction.

Just a thought.

nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 11:43

well, sod's law is well and truly being called into play now!
My friend is having problems with the childcare arrangements - her "cover" has gone poorly with flu, and she said that she can't juggle anything else until at least Friday afternoon.
am just waiting now for the contractions to kick in Wink

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 11:45

yes, we have community midwives (that's the Rose that's mentioned)
our hospital (Memorial) is one of those "cottage hospitals" - we're very lucky in that, because we're quite a rural town, and 8 miles away from the main Medway hospital.

MissInga - I had to book the induction for tomorrow (last time I went it was done)
at Medway, what they do is book the induction for a specific day, not time, then you ring in the morning to book a time (or refuse, which is what I'm doing)

CaptainSexypantsMcFantastic · 07/12/2011 11:48

Your instructions sound great. I had Rose at the memorial as well and I found her to be very understanding. As long as she knows you're aware of the risks and benefits and have made an informed decision (which it's obvious you have) then you won't get any trouble.

Hooray for sod's law. You can't come out now Nickelbaby it would be really inconvenient (waits for contractions to kick it).

hester · 07/12/2011 11:50

nickelbabe, I've just come onto this thread because I can't believe you haven't had that baby yet.

Do you remember that old Cath Jackson cartoon strip in Time Out or City Limits? Of course you don't; you're way too young. Anyway, the heroine's baby refuses to leave the womb. A doctor tries to do a sweep but gets his hand bitten. The midwife hollers up there, "Come out!" and the baby screams back: "Shan't". Anyway, the upshot is that it is actually an alien baby...

You didn't visit Texas ten months ago, did you?

Pantofino · 07/12/2011 11:51

Curry for lunch?

nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 12:01

talking about stressful things!
I've just got a new credit account with a supplier, and they've sent out a box to me.
except it's gone to my old home address, which was on that account when it was a "pay in advance " account.
Confused

the spookiest thing about it is that the guy from the supplier has checked the invoice, and it has the correct address on it!!
There is absolutely no logic behind the box going to the old address - both the invoice address and the account address say the shop address!

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 12:02

Grin hester - i hope that's not going to happen Grin

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 12:04

the annoying thing about this late labour is that i'll get less time off before I have to go back to work.
Assistant goes back to uni the 2nd week of january, so I'll have 4 weeks maximum (as opposed to the possible 6 weeks if Isbn had been on time)

OP posts:
YougreatChristmaspudding · 07/12/2011 12:07

Nickel - I really do recommend Evening primrose oil capsules as many as you can stomach. EPO contains the same prostiglandins as sperm but in larger quantities. My MW suggested taking them with DD1 who we knew was going to be an induction (due to to other medical stuff) 1 pessary and 7 hours later 1 pink health baby with 15min pushing. Apparently it helps soften the cervix allowing dilation to happen much more easily. Our MWs swear by it and reckon 1500mg-3000mg taken in 2 doses a day really can help get things going once you are overdue.

TheOldestCat · 07/12/2011 12:18

Good luck, nickelbabe. I'm just down the road in Faversham so shout if you need anything.

Incidentally, at 40+8 I was booked in for my induction the following week. Despite my 'unfavourable cervix', which the midwife couldn't reach to do a sweep(!) DS arrived at home the next day.

Hope all goes well for you.

nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 12:25

I'm not convinced my cervix is favourable yet.
I had a go using the method that I found for checking, and I couldn't even feel anything that felt like pursed lips!
I know I've got a cervix Wink

There seem to be a lot of people on here in hailing distance of Sittingbourne- do I dare mention the possibility of a meet up sometime? Or not? If not, pretend I never spoke.

nickel request a placental Doppler as well to assess function and flow ongoing the cord.

I would personally have opted for daily monitoring despite my hatred of hospitals.

EPO up the fanjo apparently helps as well.

nickelbabe · 07/12/2011 12:36

seeker - good idea.
I'm happy to host a small meet-up in the shop (tea, snacks, that kind of ting)
obviously, that would be a day time thing, but if anyone wants to meet up for evening drinkies, then I'm fine with that too. :)
