We have friends in NZ that live near the location where The Last Samurai was being filmed and it became common knowledge very quickly amongst the local community that TC was gay. I used to feel a bit sorry for him that he was so afraid to come out, but after his idiotic and uninformed comments regarding clinical depression, have decided to boycott his movies. I find his current antics with KH rather bemusing if not disturbing.

Is it REALLY such a career no-no in this day and age for a grown man (as opposed to boy band star) to be gay? How ridiculous!

re silent birth - it's not THAT far from Leboyer, is it? As DS was being slithered on to my stomach I was instincively going 'shhhh! Shhhh!' and trying to stop the obstretrician, registrar, aneastetist, paed, 2 midwives, DP and other birth partner from talking.
Obviously crap if imposed on a woman who feels she needs to yell! Though I don't know how anyone would stop her.

its not about prejudice though is it? Its the simple fact that women may not fancy him so much if they know hes gay and therefore not interested in them. So he makes more money if he pretends to be straight, because more people are more likely to fancy him, because there are more women than gay men. of course, they could still like him, but I guess he makes more money if they fantasize about marrying him!

Ohhh scary stuff this scientology. Had a friend who read the dianetics book and then a few years later she got a job working for the scientologists. She had to go through a purification thingy and was instructed to fast for two days then was put in a steam room with no water bottle on comming out she was sent to attend lectures. \she managed to get away from the group a few years ago and is petrified of them now.

Susan Sarandon's done a very good job of pretending to be hetero, including being married various times, and having children, including with her long term partner, the very lovely Tim Robbins.

Jodie, on the other hand, has never acknowledged any lover, either male or female. Which is of course entirely her business. Given the prejudice I think lesbians still face in Hollywood I think it's a shame she doesn't come out - but for some reason Jodie hasn't sought my opinion on that subject
