Tom Cruise - what a w****r!

Apparently, (and having heard his views on post-natal depression, I can believe it) Katie Holmes will have to follow the scientologist rules of childbirth ie no noise (!) in case it traumatises the baby and no pain relief (!) which would surely traumatise the mother...

Anyone out there managed this?!

I got told I was making too much noise - frightening the first time mum next door. I would have told her to p* off if I hadn't been so busy screaming. He was 9lb7 and bloody hurt.

I was silent durign dd's birth, never really thought about it. She was my first and a more reasonable 8lb.

I hope she wacks him one!

nonstarter · 07/10/2005 17:11

If they only worried about negative sounds why can't you be allowed to howl "I'm really loving this positive experience of pain" or "I love you Tom, I love you baby" or "this is soooooo wonderful".

Surely these words would stick in baby's mind and set them up for life with a positive birth experience.

classic case of SMS (short man syndrome) causing TC to fall in love with a religion with the possibilities of justifying the occasional domination of women.

Surely not all of scientology is this weird ?

Nightynight · 07/10/2005 17:30

I feel somewhat smug because I was the only teenager I knew who DIDNT fancy Tom Cruise in Top Gun. Always thought he looked sly and smug. his best ever role was the guy in The Firm - he fitted the rather slimy hero to a T!

happymerryberries · 07/10/2005 17:36

I once met one of the real pilots who were at 'Top Gun' when they filmed the movie ( on exchange with dh's squadron). He told me that all the stars had a ride in a plane except one. Anybody wanna guess which star?????

weesaidie · 07/10/2005 17:43

God. Everytime I hear about this guy I hear more and more stuff to piss me off. What a freak he is.

I actually was pretty silent during my labour - concentrating on the old breathing - (did have a little gas and air at the end) but I certainly wasn't instructed to be so by some ridicuoous pseudo religion.

I mean where is the actual evidence that making noise harms the child??

LadyTophamHatt · 07/10/2005 17:43

I really wish I could put into words how utterly repulsive I find TC and now with all this scientology and silent birth bullshit......Ahhgghhhhh!

FFs silent birth?? a forced silent birth...come on, than man need to be locked up.
How fuc*ing typical of a man to think that up!

There aren't many things or people on this planet that make me feel like this but I'm really freaked out by this. Why would anyone willingly be involved in a cult like this.

Katie....you have been brainwashed!

Caligula · 07/10/2005 18:03

If she's a virgin, she's the Doris Day kind of virgin

overdraft · 07/10/2005 18:04

haven't had chance to read all posts but i thought he fired blanks

Nightynight · 07/10/2005 18:10

no, infertility depends on both partners. It is very well known that if an infertile couple divorces, they can both have children easily with new partners.

ScreamEagle · 07/10/2005 18:29

Can I buck the trend here - not so much in TC's defence really but Katie Holmes is a grown woman FFS!!!

She must take some flak for allowing herself to be taken advantage of as all on this thread seem to think. She made the choice to be with TC - his religious beliefs are well documented so she can't say she didn't know before getting involved with him.

Why don't we start a thread "Is KH a wanker for shacking up with a wanker?"

ScreamEagle · 07/10/2005 18:30

Actually come to think of it if they conceived using IVF then they are obviously both a pair of wankers!

Nightynight · 07/10/2005 18:35

shes probably just dazzled by being engaged to a very rich man . I probably would be, at her age and in that situation (sadly it was never put to the test though)
she will get fed up with it soon

next time mn goes through a controversial period, we must remember to start another Tom Cruise thread to restore a warm, fuzzy feeling of togetherness.

teeavee · 07/10/2005 18:39

eagle, totally agree - cf my comment on other thread to this effect

Also, do we know that she is a scientologist too? I mean, she wouldn't believe inthe silent labour nonsense if she wasn't, so who would care what tom says?

mandymac · 07/10/2005 18:41

I delivered my dd with no pain relief (too late for epidural/pethidine and didn't like gas & air) - so not a martyr (or religious nutter), and it wasn't through choice and was silent through the pushing due to intense concentration. MW kept having to ask DH was I having a contraction as he could see me screwing up my face .

Made a right fuss during the stitches though (and had pain relief for them!)

mawbroon · 07/10/2005 18:42

Nightynight - I never got the whole Tom Cruise thing at the time of Top Gun either - or after for that matter. I'm glad to see that we were right all along

Hmm, they started dating in April, got engaged 2 months later, baby due in the spring....must have been a VERY quick conception! Anyone think the engagement tied in with the BFP?

Nightynight · 07/10/2005 18:49

dior, how controversial of you!!

sallycinnamon · 07/10/2005 19:54

I was very amused to see in the news reports that she is a good 3 or 4 inches taller than him! Ha ha. If I see the footage of him jumping on various chat show sofas because he is so in lurvve I will puke.
Apparently she took one of these virginity pledges when she was in high school. Hmmm

dinny · 07/10/2005 19:57

maybe she'll just have an epidural to avoid making noise?

FairyMum · 07/10/2005 20:07

Why do people think TC is gay? Where do these rumours come from?

teeavee · 07/10/2005 20:12

mostly from me, I think!

dinny · 07/10/2005 20:12

it's a badly-kept industry secret, FM - bit like Rock Hudson etc.

Eaney · 07/10/2005 20:15

I heard that Tom Cruise and TIm RObbins have been in a long relationship and that Susan Sarandon is gay. I also heard that his relationship with Nicole was a 10 year business contract and she had clearly broken it by getting Pregers.

dinny · 07/10/2005 20:18

do you think KH is up the duff then, Eaney?
