Tom Cruise - what a w****r!

Apparently, (and having heard his views on post-natal depression, I can believe it) Katie Holmes will have to follow the scientologist rules of childbirth ie no noise (!) in case it traumatises the baby and no pain relief (!) which would surely traumatise the mother...

Anyone out there managed this?!

i don't like cruise's acting much either, but thought he was quite good in magnolia...

wtf did robbins see in him?

quite a height difference there too!

CaptainCavemansMummy · 08/10/2005 12:45

Can't decide if KH is stupid or misled, or both. I would love to hear from a single mum who is a scientologist who went through a noise-and-pain-relief-free birth.
Lord help Katie if she's 'weak' enough to get PND. (as TC obviously feels PND is a choice!) Tosser.

expatinscotland · 08/10/2005 12:47

Nicole Kidman is a Catholic. She refused to convert to Scientology and it became a real bone of contention in their marriage.

I thought L Ron Hubbard was a sci-fi writer?

Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't read much sci-fi so I'm a little outta touch w/that genre.

LadyTophamHatt · 08/10/2005 13:03

AFAIK yes expat he is (was?) a sci-fi writer.

I bet he's rubbing his hands with glee at all the cash he gets from all these celebs, Probably 100 times richer now than too.

expatinscotland · 08/10/2005 13:14

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that he made a bet with someone; something along the lines of the quickest way to become a millionnaire is to found your own religion. Or some other sort of schlock like that. Wouldn't surprise me if it were true.

During frehser's week at uni (back in 1989 for me - shock!) the Scientology people were offering this 'free personality testing'. These two kids I'd met wanted me to do it, but going drinking sounded more fun so I left 'em to it.

Queenwaterwitch · 08/10/2005 14:01

I was wondering that dillydally. Does anyone really think Tom Cruise is heterosexual? Poor silly little Katie Holmes won't know what's hit her when she tries to give birth in silence.

spagblog · 08/10/2005 14:26

It's definitely possible to give birth silently, you could be hypnotised to feel no pain at all...However, TC has SMS and makes my stomach turn. Yick.

On the subject of noises produced when giving birth, I seem to recall that I mooed a lot and then screamed as loud and hard as I could when the registrar stuck both arms in up to the elbow in an attempt to free DD's shoulder....ARRRRGHHHHH!
the nasty pompous James Herriot wannabee told me to relax in the stirrups

teeavee · 08/10/2005 14:27

lol at 'james herriott wannabe'

spookyserenity · 08/10/2005 14:51

L Ron Hubbard is dead, so unless there is something about scientiology that they've been keeping very quiet I don't think he's that bothered by the money

bobbybob · 09/10/2005 09:03

I watched an antenatal video "sister for hugo" where the woman gave birth very quietly while her husband read a magazine at the other side of the sofa.

As this was my only experience of a real birth I tried to do the same, only to be told by my midwife "for god's sake, shout and a bit and get cross woman - it won't come out like this".

Maybe KH could book her!

SueW · 09/10/2005 09:35

ISTR that in this book, The Midwife's Story the Amish women give birth very quietly.

well i gave birth to my son in silence , i was 17yrs well just turned 17yr.All i kept doing was concentrating on the clock on the wall, thinking who made it ...blah, blah, blah.He was a 8lb 3oz baby boy and i had stiches in and out , rubber rings were a life saver, and i still can remember the stinging everytime i went to the toilet and the ouch the midwife asking if i had opened my bowels today ....i use to lie and say yes[shoke], yes i can see you all there now cringing thinking ," god yes i can remember that"lol. so good luck katie holmes is all i can say! Slame toms balls in the door everytime theres a contraction hun

weesaidie · 17/10/2005 19:29

You are right expat, he did say that the best way to make money was to start a religion, and I don't think it matters that he is dead now, he was still alive when he said it!

jellyjelly · 25/10/2005 15:01

As i undertsnad it she cant make any noise but he can talk?

expatinscotland · 25/10/2005 15:02

He'd be yelping b/c I'd grab him by the balls with every 'silent' contraction .

NomDePlume · 25/10/2005 15:05

I thought that ideally the room has to be as silent as is humanly possible, even the medics are expected to zip it ! All this is supposedly because the baby remembers birth as a very traumatic time and any noise or stress will make the memories worse and they'll grow up to be serial killers (or something like that).....

jabberwitchy · 25/10/2005 15:05

After that asinine statement he made about PND, I will never watch another Tom Cruise movie again.

What an idiot.

gscrym · 25/10/2005 15:06

Hands up all those who can remember their own traumatic birth experience!

NomDePlume · 25/10/2005 15:08

According to my mother mine was pretty horrendous and yet I've managed to keep my axe-weilding tendencies in check so far

expatinscotland · 25/10/2005 15:09

I was born via a serene, scheduled C-section, following which my mother woke to have a champagne brunch.

jabberwitchy · 25/10/2005 16:01

Wow, expat, I like your mom's style!

ChicPea · 25/10/2005 16:09

STOPPRESSSTOPPRESSSTOPPRESSSTOPPRESSSTOPPRESS*

I have heard from two different sources who are in the "Hollywood Machine" that a story about Tom being bi was about to break and a female had to be found to quash the story. The female would be paid in the region of $8.5m to marry him and it would also launch her career. Enter Katie Holmes and that's why the whole thing was whirlwind and very public - ridiculously so. You might think that this a ludicrous idea but $8.5m in Hollywood is a drop in the ocean in comparison to what he and the media moguls would lose.

Nicole Kidman married him for a career break and look what it did for her.

Think about it...

expatinscotland · 25/10/2005 16:12

Except that Nicole Kidman could actually act and Katie Holmes can't.

ChicPea · 25/10/2005 16:14

I haven't seen KH but agree that Nicole can and is fabulous in fact.
