Is there a home birth thread on MN?

I've been trying to find a home birth thread on the talk boards but not having any luck. Is anyone else planning for a HB imminently? I am hoping for a home water birth in around 2 weeks with an independent mw and it would be great if anyone else was also in the same position or had recently had a HB.

I just spotted my name on the stats list - I'm due 8/5/11 - 38+3 and ready for the hard work to get started! Or I was, I saw a midwife on Monday and after checking baby's position (3/5) said she didn't think it'll happen in the next week or so.

I think I'd got ahead of myself because the baby has felt so low for weeks and the period-like pains/backache/BHs are getting more obvious, particularly at night.

So just trying to enjoy the last few weeks: DH is off work this week, feel really happy, love my huge wriggly bump and really enjoying all the lazing around!

Hi wondered if I could join you ladies. I am 26 weeks with #4DC, this will be (fingers crossed) My third HB, my midwives are very supportive and I will all being well have the same midwife that delivered my last two boys.

Loopy I was another trying for number 4 thread with you, but have name changed since then. Can't believe you are 39 weeks already you must be so excited.

Can I join as well? 38+2 with DC3 (DS2). DS1 was a hospital birth and DD an unplanned homebirth. I liked being at home after DD and given how quickly she arrived decided that home was the best place this time round- at least I've got the gas and air ready!

Had a run of contractions last night but am hoping that nothing happens til after the bank holiday weekend so DD & DS can go to nursery rather than relatives- I can do without endless check up phone calls Grin

38+1. Homebirth kit arrived yesterday and checked by midwife. DS1 was a hospital birth (induction but intervention light and straightforward).
No signs yet but lots more aches and pains down low.

spiggy · 29/04/2011 14:00

Oooh looks like there will be a spate of births soon Smile. I've got all the hb stuff laid out on the dining room table although I'm tempted to hide the "hooks of doom" (I don't know what the proper name is for them but that is what the hooks used to break your waters are called in our house) as that is #1 on my birth plan- No breaking my waters unless there is an urgent medical need to (bad experience with DS). DP just wants to play with the gas and air Grin

Can I join too? Due in July. First baby was planned to be a HB, laboured well with TENS and pool but then DS got stuck after 2 hours of pushing as he was asynclitic, in deep transverse arrest and with deflexed head! Came out with a ventouse though Grin, worth it in the end. So wanting to get the birth I really want this time round. Still consultant led until they recheck my thyroid levels at 34 weeks but if these are ok will be transferred back to MW led and the MW's here seem to be very supportive of HB. Oh, and we have to move house before the birth so frustratingly can't get anything ready yet!

I recognise a few of you from various threads

Loopy so your mws bring everything with them on the day? You'd think that would slow them down a bit. The only bit of kit mine are bring on the day is the baby resuscitation stuff.

I definitely feel more comfortable with everything here- DD was officially estimated at 2hrs 40 but that was 2 hours of occasionally going ouch, 5 mins of screaming "get me an ambulance", 15 mins of trying to pursuade a paramedic that I couldn't actually get out of the house as she was crowning and could he !£$%ing well get the gas and air out of his ambulance and 20 mins waiting for the placenta. I'm going to call them out as soon as I think it is happening for real but I feel better with the stuff ready for them to grab the minute they get through the door just in case....

architien · 30/04/2011 04:54

Hello Ladies,

I was due on 21/4 and I've had a hard road to fight to plan a home birth, only now I'm "overdue". The pregnancy is perfectly healthy. I was wondering if any of you ladies had plans/thoughts about what you would do if you reached the magical date of 41 plus 6 days in terms of the home birth? My bump seems to have dropped, getting increased mucous (sorry if TMI). I'm LOA, so position is fine. I've been walking, bouncing on the ball, drinking raspberry leaf tea, eating pineapple, husbandly attentions, acupuncture I'm trying my best!

My first baby arrived at 40+5 and he was back to back. This baby is 40+9 today.

Any ideas/comforting thoughts?

just poking my head in...
loopy I don't have a kit here this time, my midwife says there's been weird wire crossing and some of the kits didn't get restocked properly, so everyone carries their own essentials with them in their car and just picks up entonox and oxygen when they are on their way to you.

Being poked at induction now, because despite all the progress I've made, I'm still stuck and pregnant and now very much 40+9. Midwife completely happy to give me until next weekend, though before considering anything. monitoring scan booked for next thursday at 40+14....

newyearsday · 30/04/2011 09:25

Round here the midwives bring the HB kit with them when you're in labour but this is my 1st so I'm expecting there'll be plenty of time.

Last night the BHs stepped up a level, really painful low-down pain, backache and shooty pelvic pains for about 3hrs, had to take some paracetamol and was really restless. Cue the manic nesting moment at 9.30pm when I HAD to hoover the downstairs and mop the kitchen floor! But things calmed down to mildly uncomfortable BHs overnight with lots of baby movement low-down in my pelvis.

Hi ladyg [waves back]

Archi my EDD is a week earlier than my due date (I was charting temps so am sure of OV date) so if I do go overdue and baby is ok I will argue the case. I haven't thought too much beyond that...good luck hope baby doesn't keep you waiting much longer.

spiggy · 01/05/2011 09:17

I will likely refuse induction and ask for extra monitoring instead. If that doesn't show any issues then I will be pushing for a hb. I've already had one argument about being told that they can only do one hb at a time so if someone else is in labour I'll have to go to hospital so not worried about a bit of a fight. After a letter to the chief exec it turned out that I had completely misunderstood the letter Hmm and what they actually meant by "we can't provide a hb service" is that if the duty mws are busy then they will call extra mws and I won't have to go in.

archi hope you don't need our thoughts as he/she has decided to turn up.

Ladies I have news: It's a girl! Rose has been born! Labour was less than two hours, no pain relief or stitches required, all at home so so fast. A 1st of May Beltane baby. Luckily they sent two midwives who were great. There wasn't even time for bath and you wouldn't have guessed it had happened here at all as all is tidy and lovely, not much fuss!

Have fed baby Rose and now she's sleeping.

Ivy i tried a bit of planting strawberries whilst squating in the garden and the wayers popped. :)

architien · 02/05/2011 04:12

waters still shaking!
