Is there a home birth thread on MN?

I've been trying to find a home birth thread on the talk boards but not having any luck. Is anyone else planning for a HB imminently? I am hoping for a home water birth in around 2 weeks with an independent mw and it would be great if anyone else was also in the same position or had recently had a HB.

I have also joined the yahoo homebirth group (thanks for the tip) and will need some support to stick to my guns cos I am confident I can do it but think the HCPs will try to wear me down due to risk factors. I am going to hire a doula too, so if I do have to go to hospital (if risks become actuals I will t/f, I'm not reckless) i have an advocate with me so i can refuse constant monitoring and the like.

spiggy · 05/05/2011 05:46

Yay Ivy, glad you got the birth you wanted, even if he did keep you waiting!

squiggleywiggler · 05/05/2011 10:41

Morning all and congrats to Ivy and archi! So glad your little one decided to join us before any more induction talk Ivy.

Am watching excitedly for the rest of the May babies- obviously a busy month for homebirthers.

I'm 'on call' for two homebirthers at the moment (I have a back-up doula for the second couple). Both are 'overdue' and getting restless, so having to remind them to trust their bodies and their babies to come at the perfect time.

I've just posted up a new homebirth story on my blog - an amazing (and quick) first timer's waterbirth if anyone's in need of inspiration: hackneydoula.co.uk/?page_id=260

gogoNagano · 05/05/2011 14:04

Oooh may I join in? I'm due in August with my first and hubby and I are very keen on the idea of a home water birth. Am having hypnobirthing sessions as well, and am hoping this will enable me to cope whatever is thrown at us on the day!

HighFibreDiet · 05/05/2011 15:32

Hello, can I add myself too? Due in July, this is my fourth pregnancy and hopefully will be my third homebirth. I moved over to Australia in January and I'm finding the situation far far worse than it ever was or is in the UK. I am booked with an independent midwife but she is currently being investigated by my local hospital and is not meant to practise apart from under supervision and in hospital :( And there are hardly any other independent midwives to choose from. According to my midwife there are only six in the whole Sydney area (where I am) and three are under investigation.

newyearsday · 05/05/2011 15:55

Happy EDD loopy, any news? Hope it's a hat trick!

I'm feeling a bit fed-up today. Getting lots of twinges, pains and baby movement low down so had some paracetamol and a rest. Feel a bit upset about having to go out to vote (I always vote!). Think I'll wait until tonight so DH can come with me. Honestly I'm usually a strong independent women - I'm definitely having a funny day!

HighFibreDiet · 06/05/2011 05:34

squiggleywiggler that's such a lovely birth story, despite the midwife wanting to interfere! Well done to the mum, her partner and to you. :)

TotorosOcarina · 06/05/2011 05:54

Hiya,

can I join?

Am waiting for DC4, had DS1 in hospital and DS2 and DD at home,

DS3 was due 2nd may and have been in very slow annoying labour forever, thought it was kicking off last night and nothing again.

Have pool ready and waiting :)

Congrats to new mummies!!

hi loopy, yes still waiting,

just realised i posted on this thread months ago Blush

i have a midwife i don't like and am praying she wont turn up!

good luck with the VE today x

Twit · 06/05/2011 11:09

Ooh good luck both of you. Fingers crossed things make a start and you get fantastic MWs. I'm in the position where I hope my MW does get to be here, she's missed both my previous HBs and I am most decidedly NOT going to have any more LO's. However all the MWs I've had previously attending have been lovely too so I really think I am very very lucky.

HighFibreDiet · 06/05/2011 14:59

Loopy my midwife is very seriously thinking of moving to NZ as her daughter lives there anyway! Hope the VE helps, and that your annoying CMW is off duty when you go into labour.

Enjoy yourself in the pool, Totoros!

and hello to Twit :)
