The whole system sucks which is why it is open to abuse.
I definitely understand, my youngest is the one who struggled for years and stopped attending school, my eldest has been fine and gearing up for Uni. The last few weeks have been tough for her too, she’s in a rut now so I have both of them to support and it feels like nobody has an answer. We’re working through it though.

Twoandtwois6 · 12/08/2021 14:37

Hi, here’s a little update, I think I'm out of the woods with any of YCFFs legal threats.
However has anyone got a screengrab of YCFF or Peaky Parents using targeted marketing on facebook? If you do please private message me, thanks

SwanShaped · 12/08/2021 17:41

That’s good two. I don’t have any I’m afraid.

SwanShaped · 02/09/2021 18:05

How’s everyone getting on?

TeenMinusTests · 02/09/2021 18:13

DD is due to start college next week.

Hitting problems because for some reason we didn't attempt to get an EHCP for her during y11 when she wasn't in school, in the middle of a pandemic, with her MH changing monthly and I was hanging on to sanity by my fingertips.

(I did have an interesting PM today that unfortunately I couldn't help with.)

SwanShaped · 02/09/2021 18:32

Yeah, that probably wasn’t the forefront of your mind at the time. Can you do it now? I’m not sure how it worlds coz my kids are little still.

I also got an interesting message from MN.

Mibb2 · 02/09/2021 18:44

Hi All!

I got a message too. I've forwarded it to Good (as I couldn't really help with it)

TeenMinusTests · 02/09/2021 18:44

From what I read it takes months to get an EHCP. I have no resilience left to push. I do however have a friend who has 3 SN children who is advising me on how to talk to college which is being helpful. DD's post adoption SW is also on annual leave.

otoh, DD got her vaccine, has had a visit to college, started walking in new places, and has been doing small bits of maths with me too. Oh, and she finally started CBT this week.

How is everyone else?

SwanShaped · 02/09/2021 20:07

That’s great about walking in new places. Really positive. Things like make such a difference to someone’s life. Although my kids are only little, I have a family member who can’t leave the house on his own. It really impacts what he’s able to do.

SwanShaped · 02/09/2021 20:08

Hopefully @Twoandtwois6 got the message too.

Twoandtwois6 · 02/09/2021 20:27

Yes thank you 🙏

hello

I have just come across this thread - and have just joined Mumsnet so I can post on here.

I came across Kidsanxietydisorder, then Peaky Parents, through FB. My 12 yo son in recent times has started to show signs of anxiety. I watched the introductory hour long video and what was said did fit with what I was seeing in my son - at the time I was desperate for some help (less so now as things improved in school holidays but anticipate a deterioration in the coming weeks) and Sam was very confident about being able to offer effective help, almost a guarantee. It seemed too good to be true - which did make me cautious but clearly I want it to be true! I found the language emotive, which for me was off putting - I felt like I was the target of a marketing strategy. However, it could be the help my son needs.....I booked an initial call with someone. It was again a hard sell but the content of what was being spoken about resonated with me. After the call I was sent a document which was to reflect what we had discussed in the hour long call - what I was actually sent what was the 'sales pitch' agenda. It was clearly designed to identify a person's vulnerability and get them to sign up. This didn't help me have confidence in the organisation.
I have since joined a Q&A with Peaky Parents and spoke to a mum whose children are in the programme - this was helpful and positive. I have been encouraged to ask questions and raise any concerns I may have with the office/Sam.
I very much want what is being offered to be the help I need for my son but I do have reservations. There is a very clear and strong marketing strategy aimed at vulnerable people (all businesses need to service but care needs to be taken with vulnerable people). I have found little info about the company and I am not clear which company is operational - this does not give me confidence about credibility. I have not come across an organization that is addressing behavioral/mental health issues make such bold claims before - it is either because it is so effective or because it does not have the necessary professional/ethical core values.
I will read the rest of this thread - I am interested to know both good and bad experiences . If there is anywhere else I can go for information please point me in the right direction.

TeenMinusTests · 03/09/2021 13:17

Daaxy Read the previous thread, and this one.

Then listen to your instinct and don't touch them with a barge pole.

Mibb2 · 03/09/2021 15:13

Hope that's allowed, if not the link is on the first post on this thread.

SwanShaped · 03/09/2021 17:14

Hi daaxy. Have a look at the other thread too. Do you mean that you were sent the wrong document after your initial call?

Quite a few of us have reservations about the integrity of Sam’s companies for various reasons. Mainly, lack of transparency, making such bold claims, blaming parents for it not working, emotive language, why so many companies, lack of safeguarding policy, posting real videos with names of young people (even with consent this is a safeguarding concern). Others, have highlighted how Sam can become aggressive if challenged, although I’ve not experienced that myself as I’ve not had dealings with her. So I can’t confirm that.

Also, if someone really did have a guaranteed cure then surely everyone would just use it and there would be no anxiety anymore.

SwanShaped · 03/09/2021 17:16

And sorry to hear that your son is struggling. The other issue, is that it can be tricky to access/find what works so it is very understandable why parents would sign up to Sam’s courses out of desperation.

Daaxy · 03/09/2021 17:34

I am still wading through both threads, not finished yet - a lot to take in but the worries on this thread I too have.
I do want to find support for my son who is in the early stages of what I think is anxiety - I can see that there is potential for this to snowball and become worse for him. What does work?!

Comfysofa78 · 03/09/2021 17:46

The thrive programme is good, I can see it would work but we’re unfortunately at the other end of the snowball after spending years looking for things to help, as time goes on it gets more difficult.
I too had a call with Sam’s team and as you said @Daaxy it does seem that they know and undersrand. A few months on I have had time to think and actually can’t remember them explaining how the cure works, what approach they take. Only referring to mentoring and how many different sessions are provided (cynical me says it’s to make to feel you are getting your moneys worth). They understand anxiety and how it affects families but after researching lots I’m not sure I know any less than them. I was not reassured by how it works and neither was a no money back guarantee explained. I read in this post that if you did ask for money back they turn it around to say it was your fault as a nun and didn’t follow advice.
I’m glad I didn’t sign up after seeing lots of strange behaviour included ranting in her Facebook group that was supposed to be a sales page. Put me off straight away 😂😂. If you want to know more about their e pm me. Good luck

SwanShaped · 03/09/2021 18:23

We never did get to the bottom of who flappy ears was. I was also put off by Martin making those claims about how much money he’d made in a month.

Daaxy, do you still have the copy of the sales agenda you were emailed?

Mibb2 · 03/09/2021 18:33

swan I noticed there was a poster way back near the start of the first thread with the username "earsflappinginthewind". Odd that Sam picked up on this name as they only posted a few times...

TeenMinusTests · 03/09/2021 18:41

@Daaxy I rate this lady www.lorrainelee.org/ for general parenting. She has done some sessions on anxiety, not sure if any more live ones are planned but in the Store on the website there is one aimed at children. Compared with YCFF you really have nothing to lose by downloading her seminar.

Depending on how bad your DS is, following her advice might be enough. Otherwise we have found a mixture of medication and counselling has sort of worked for DD. She needed the medication to be in a good enough place for the counselling iyswim?

thanks - will have a look at this

SwanShaped · 03/09/2021 19:35

Oh right Mibb I hadn’t noticed that. Makes sense.
