Is anyone else waiting on a decision for carers allowance? How long have you been waiting?

Does anyone know the wait times atm?

Im only on week 2 so I'm assuming I have a long way to go?

Mine took less than 2 weeks I think and they paid it before I'd even sent them the supporting paperwork. They did telephone me with a couple of questions first though.

Babyroobs · 09/04/2023 20:20

I help people with these claims. I've known one be awarded within a couple of weeks and others take up to 6/8 weeks recently.

SmirnoffIceIsNice · 09/04/2023 20:24

I don't know whether circumstances have any bearing on the speed. My DH's PIP was sorted and paid within a few weeks too. No interview or anything, but he is on palliative care and had a DS1500 form.

I have been told by the carers allowance departments a few occasions that where the cared for person has a Ds1500, they can speed up the claim if you let them know but I don't think that they are automatically made aware that the cared for persons disability benefit has been applied for under special rules. So you have to flag that up to them for the claim process for carers allowance to also be speeded up.

I also need to send p45 and payslip but I don't think I ever got a p45 so I'm unsure how that's going to work .

KEMC23 · 09/04/2023 21:48

Does anyone no if they start payments before they recieve the evidence ? Or do they need to recieve it first just asking as I'm not sure how long it's going to take to get My p45 as I never recieved one I do however have the wage slips .

I dont think they will start the payments until the have the evidence they have asked for. I also have the payslips but not my p45 as there has been an issue with the system but it should be sorted this week 🤞

Yes in the past month.

FlowerTink · 10/04/2023 16:19

Mine was at Christmas time, again less than 2 weeks, I was paid before I received a letter confirming.

Fluckinghell · 10/04/2023 19:57

Hopefully my p45 is sorted this week so I can get everything sent away!

I haven't heard anything yet , I'm a little stuck with it atm as my old boss didn't issue a p45 because they rehired me as bank staff a few days after but I haven't worked no shifts since .

You should maybe give them a call and explain?

I sent my documents by a tracked service last week and they still havent been delivered yet so I'm going to resend today by special delivery.

I had to call them last week and whilest I was on the call I asked what the current wait time was and she advised its 6 weeks

OP posts:
Fluckinghell · 19/04/2023 12:58

They received my p45 and payslips yesterday and I have received them back today, next week will be the 6th week since I applied so hopefully its not too much longer

So I have just received a text message saying 'we have made a decision about your carers allowance, you will receive a decision letter within the next 10 days'

How annoying that they don't actually tell you what the decision is!!

You might find the money goes into the bank before you get the letter (assuming it was all straight forward and will be paid).

KEMC23 · 26/04/2023 13:35

I had a phone call last week Friday from someone they have managed to pull up my wages from hmrc or wherever .. and I just explained why I never got a p45 etc he said a decision will be made that day and any backpay will be next week . I have not recieved any confirmation texts or backpay yet I might give them a call . X

KEMC23 · 26/04/2023 13:46

I have just called them got through really quickly didn't expect it tbh . She said a decision had been made on Monday 24th so probably looking at backpay within the next couple days

KEMC23 · 26/04/2023 14:33

Hi sorry me again does anyone no if receiving carers allowance impacts council tax support in any way please ? As my council tax at the moment is pretty low so was unsure whether it would increase because I will be receiving carers allowance .

The decision was made for mines on Monday and I got my backpay today, I'm with Monzo so it was actually due in tomorrow but I got it at 4pm today. And I can see my normal payment pending for tomorrow also. Although I asked to be paid 4 weekly but it looks like their paying me weekly so I'll have to call them and change it.

Hopefully you get your backpay soon
