Off the back of my previous thread I wondered what HBB your tweens are using?

We have a maxi cosi isofix at the moment which takes them up to 12. But I’d like a spare non isofix seat that I can have for play dates etc and put in the front seat.

Thank you 🌸

I had a Graco one when dd was that age and my friend has a newer version of the same one for her daughter.

It was about £30 in smiths.

That’s exactly it. Dead easy to move from car to car and turns into just a booster.

ImaginaryCat · 27/10/2020 08:36

I'd advise caution about making your DD's friends use a booster seat. What you do with your own kids is your call, but I don't know of any secondary aged kids still using booster seats, and if my DD had got in a friend's car aged 12 and been told to sit in a booster, she'd have found that really awkward. Even her 2 tiniest friends stopped using boosters at primary.

SocialBees · 27/10/2020 08:39

My 12yo is taller than me!

I was going to ask if it's usual for secondary school children to still use a car seat, I was one of the last amongst my circle to use one at primary age 10. Ive never heard of car seats at secondary, is it a newish rule?
halcyondays · 27/10/2020 08:40

No 12 year old I know uses a booster, many of them are taller than me.

My son is 10 and 140 cm therefore he doesn't have a car seat. It's not the norm to have kids of this age in booster seats when they can comfortably use a seatbelt.

Laburnam · 27/10/2020 08:41

Booster seat stopped being used in early years of primary.

I agree with this aswell, especially if they're not using booster seats normally. My 7yo doesn't use boosters anymore because of his height. Is it normal for kids to be in boosters until 12?
Clymene · 27/10/2020 08:43

Once they're over 135cm they don't need one. Most children reach that height by the time they're 10

Arosadra · 27/10/2020 08:43

My 11 year old is 163cm tall! She doesn’t need a booster!

My 8 year old is 138cm tall and neither does she. She would probably still sit in one happily though.

reefedsail · 27/10/2020 08:44

YABU calling 10/11/12yo children seeing each other 'playdates'.

My 10yo DS is 166cm tall (5ft 4) so I'm not sure why you would be putting him on a booster seat?

Hazelmazel · 27/10/2020 08:44

My 10 year old has just stopped using her HBB seat. She was over the height limit (135cm) for at least a year but chose to carry on using it. I don't think any of her school friends still use booster seats.
How old and how tall is your child just?

Clymene · 27/10/2020 08:45

And don't call having a friend round a play date at that age either!

halcyondays · 27/10/2020 08:46

I made mine use boosters until they reached 135cm which was long before they were 12 and they’ve never been particularly tall for their ages.

You are supposed to have them in a booster until 135cm or age 12 whichever comes first. In most cases it will be the height.

InvincibleInvisibility · 27/10/2020 08:50

My just turned 9 year old is 140cm and we stopped using a booster this summer. Much more comfortable for him.

My 6 year old isnt in a high backed booster cos his shoulders were too high.

Then again, mine are very rarely in a car

megletthesecond · 27/10/2020 08:52

Mine stopped using booster seats around the age if 10 as they'd hit the height limit.
They were thrilled as I was evil embarrassing mum who made them stick with them that long.

Seeline · 27/10/2020 08:53

My DD was tiny. Even she passed the height limit the summer before starting secondary.

No secondary school child I have ever met uses a booster.

unicornparty · 27/10/2020 08:53

My ds stopped using these around age 7. You surely can't be thinking of putting 12 year olds on boosters? Shock

actiongirl1978 · 27/10/2020 08:54

Mine were using travel boosters from age 5.

The guidelines were different 5 years ago though.

They both stopped using travel boosters by age 8 and sat on a normal seat.

My DD is 12, has hips and can draw the perfect eyeliner flick. If you told her to get into a car seat she would because she is incredibly polite but would decline a lift from you in future!

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 27/10/2020 08:57

Mine also have used a car seat since around Year 3/4 depending on height. My 11 year old is taller than me-should I be in a HBB car seat?🤔

anniversarywoes · 27/10/2020 08:57

Please don't call it a 'play date' in front of your dcs secondary school aged friends. I'm cringing at the thought of it!!
I'd also say it would be beyond embarrassing for you child if you insist their friend sits in a booster seat.

It's totally unnecessary, most year 7s are taller/heavier than me and I'm definitely not using a booster seat!

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 27/10/2020 08:57

not used

justanotherneighinparadise · 27/10/2020 08:59

I’ve just been told off on a separate thread for saying my seven year old now exceeds the car seat height restriction and pondering if he needs a seat. So I ask for seat recommendations to replace the spare seat he has grown out of and am now being told off for considering putting a child that exceeds the height restriction into a seat!!! You couldn’t make it up 🤣
