Which high backed booster are your 10/11/12 year olds in please?

Off the back of my previous thread I wondered what HBB your tweens are using?

We have a maxi cosi isofix at the moment which takes them up to 12. But I’d like a spare non isofix seat that I can have for play dates etc and put in the front seat.

Thank you 🌸

And OP if you had said you wanted a spare hbb for your 7 year old friends you would have had some suggestions. It's really weird that you didn't ask that! Presumably most of your son's friends aren't tweens, they're the same age as him? Confused

Oh my god why is that weird? I want a large car seat to fit a child until they are 10/11/12. Why is that such a strange request? Really this place is so fucking weird.

Actually forget it. I’ll start a new thread with perfect and acceptable wording for you all and then perhaps you could usefully contribute.

I shall be right back with a link Grin

I thought what the pp said there tbf. Your thread title is about 10/11/12 year olds but your child is 7!

Please see new thread as this one has now been reported to MumsnetHQ as transgressing accurate and poorly detailed information policies.

There's a height limit for boosters too, most kids have reached it around 10, mine were a little older, but we were on seat (no back) by then, graco. From a safety aspect having the extra seat isn't safer once they are tall and heavy enough not to need it.

movingonup20 · 27/10/2020 10:29

Ps just looked at the seat, (really should take to the tip!) it says up to 150cm

Haha, I already answered your other thread but will post here with seats I've actually used with my now 12yo (who doesn't fit in any seat any more). The other recommendations are based on me having come across and compared them at work.

Britax Adventure - great, loads of room, on the cheap side (quality wise) but a good brand I trust.

CBX solution booster - terrible, too short, avoid. (Cybex = good, CBX = bad, no idea why, they are the same company).

Diono Hip (they don't make this any more) - really comfy, tall. Would trust Diono boosters in general.

Generic backless booster - fine - brand doesn't really matter.

There is a benefit to keeping using a booster with back BTW, it offers them some side impact protection if you're in a crash and it helps support them in the correct position if they fall asleep, which granted is rare for a 7yo, but did happen with DS1 when we were on a very long drive across Europe.

Some boosters you'll reach a limit where you can't raise the headrest any more. Commonly with Maxi Cosi, Graco, and some of the 123 seats with a harness you take out when they get to 3/4 years old. Some others go up higher. It's a bit trial and error - if you are able to try them in a shop I'd do that.
