Blood test yesterday: Serum CA 125 level over 35 indicates possible cancer. Mine is 213. Shit.

DH knows and one friend but I don't want to worry anyone else until I know how bad it is; hence I've name changed for this post. I'd love to know how anyone else has coped / is coping.

CT scan Saturday and USS on Monday. GP has made 2ww gynae referral today.

Well done @OhjoyohblissYou are amazing
🥰
Could you organise an ECG at the GPs surgery? ❤️

Mischance · 01/11/2025 18:41

Well done for getting through the chemo again. Hope you get your ECG soon.

Ohjoyohbliss · 02/11/2025 15:07

I had a couple of ECGs when I was an inpatient. I don't think I'm likely to get another one now.

I tried to do too much yesterday, in the garden. Only sitting on a little stool picking some chillies, but I fell off it and had to phone DH to come out and help me up. So embarrassing.

Now I have to do something with the chillies. I'm not really up to cooking and I'm only just starting to move on from the purely beige food I've been eating since I got ill.

Good point 👍

Sorry about the stool 🫣

itsmeafterall · 02/11/2025 19:48

Good to get another chemo under your belt.

Re the chillies- stick them whole
In the freezer. I use mine straight from they're as they cut easily, stay fresh and you can use part of a chilli without waste. Do the same with fresh ginger. 😬

Good that you had some energy to get outside even if it did end up with a face-plant it sounds worth it !

One step at a time. 🤩

Two thirds of the way there and tumours are shrinking. Woo hoo! And I bet that bath felt great, bet you slept better afterwards. I bought a shower chair when I broke my heel and I gave it away when I could weight bear again, but I regretted it afterwards, it was really nice to sit under the shower. Any chair will do that can be dried. Just be careful because they can aquaplane across the shower tray. Go on, treat yourself. They’re not too expensive on Amazon, a stool will do! https://www.amazon.co.uk/VEVOR-Adjustable-Non-Slip-Disabled-Handicap/dp/B0CSML4KDJ/ref=sr_1_10?crid=3NVJV3PNE3O4N&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.NUrIe7FGxgeP0YgCe6a_W5DTCLMRH4-n0Nj15ei_I1VYymLvpRdgBY-Mak8ZuxV3GMR06dOgq5YSEXnwN3L7eLSutJ1SfJGEYrFdx1DPvA-yBbEawii9o-xRpCMcGX1wrLuaqlmmUGC4mwVIq5KQvABNovRivVQAu-ElijsSnBzV4yw7lacmWhfqBcV8zyteAP52H-RuvGMNgf7h7r4kSwDVaa3Qkh66MTsXaX6HDmrI87a1Hkq9EJR7YW4A3LibFm669pw9s7p7b9V_L8LNohRj0TcycbeODVIfhfmx5GY.lIL0efJwoh_Bw6EkjWteNqufZ74vjdNQhjIcOPVEack&dib_tag=se&keywords=Shower%2Bchai&qid=1762021188&sprefix=shower%2Bchai%2Caps%2C172&sr=8-10&th=1

Ohjoyohbliss · 06/11/2025 09:32

Today I've got my long-awaited and much wanted wig appointment. Wouldn't you just know it, I have a really sore throat (hurts to swallow) and bad tummy ache, despite having had a poo, and I feel generally ugh.

My temperature is normal, though, no fever, so at least there's that.

A friend is taking DH and me to the appointment. She will be the first person, other than DH and District Nurses, to see my horrible stubbly head, and I'm scared. Honestly, some women look so cool bald. I just look awful and really, really old.

LilacRos · 06/11/2025 10:06

Joy, my experience at the wig appointment was fine. The hairdresser was absolutely lovely and kind. She asked me what I wanted and came up with lots of options. We narrowed it down to a couple and she showed me how to put it on and style it.
I had shoulder length hair before chemo but had a pixie cut the week before. I went with a colour and style similar to my own but a friend went for something radically different.
I took a good friend and warned her to be honest.

Enigma54 · 06/11/2025 17:08

How was the wig fitting @Ohjoyohbliss did you find a nice wig or two? How’s your sore tummy and throat now?

Clearinguptheclutter · 06/11/2025 18:57

Hope it went well

itsmeafterall · 06/11/2025 19:42

How's to wig ? And how are you feeling now ?

An Emotional day even without feeling shot to go with.

Ohjoyohbliss · 07/11/2025 14:30

It went OK. I'd suggested some that I was interested in beforehand but she didn't have my favourite style in a suitable colour, so that was a bit disappointing. She also started off with a long, straight one even though I had said I wanted something shorter. I didn't really feel listened to.

I ended up getting two; one that's my favourite and one that was DH's. My friend just said they both looked good so wasn't a lot of help in that regard (but nice to hear that I looked ok.) By the end of the session I was exhausted and couldn't make decisions, hence getting both. Everyone except me (people have seen photos) seems to prefer the other one. I don't know why I couldn't just stick to my guns and just get my favourite. I wore one to come home in and the other should be delivered soon.

Feeling pretty ill by the time I got home and was sick before getting in to the house. At least I wasn't sick in the car. Wiped out for the rest of the day.

Gosh Ohjoyohbliss, I’ve been following your story since you first posted and what an amazing woman you are sharing it. Throughout it all you have shown such resilience, determination and humour.
I hope you go from strength to strength and fight thus bastard of a disease every step of the way.
I think of you from time to time and you’re such an inspiration for many people on this journey.

Mischance · 08/11/2025 13:51

It is so hard to make a decision when you are feeling low and nauseous. I hope that you will feel comfortable with your choice as time goes by.

Gymnopediegivesmethewillies · 08/11/2025 21:00

I’m sorry you’re feeling so poorly @Ohjoyohbliss . You’ve been through so much, mentally and physically. I think you’re doing well to put one foot in front of the other, so please go easy on yourself. Do you have anything you’re looking forward to? X

Ohjoyohbliss · 28/10/2025 09:06

Yesterday I had a bath.
This is going to shock and horrify most Mumsnet clean freaks, but since I came home from hospital, I haven't showered, because I can't stand up for long enough. In hospital there's a plastic chair in the shower. I didn't want to buy a nasty plastic chair for home only to throw it out when I (hopefully) get better.

I've either had a bit of a wash in the sink, while sitting on the loo lid, or I've made do with wet wipes. So a bath was quite a big thing. Getting in and out wasn't easy - I got DH to help me out - but I feel so much better for it.

Edited

I had a major accident and needed to have my knee reconstructed about 4 years ago, it initially meant being discharged from hospital to a hospital bed downstairs at home for many many months. No shower downstairs (thankfully a downstairs toilet!) so it was months before I could have more than a wash with a bowl of soapy water brought to me.

Once I'd finally got upstairs and managed my first sit in the shower with my leg in a giant condom I cried. I did get a shower chair because it would be months before I would be able to stand.

It was the best feeling ever. I still appreciate being able to get into a shower unaided and have a proper shower.

I have a friend coming up from London to see me later this week. I'm really looking forward to seeing her but I'm worried that I won't be up to doing much.

I have felt quite poorly over the weekend and haven't been out of bed for two days. On Sunday my temperature was up, and I was sick at lunch time when trying to eat, despite having taken anti-sickness pills. I'm supposed to phone the emergency number if my temperature goes over 37.5, but being a Sunday, I knew it would just result in spending hours in A&E and who knows whether a bed would be found. I convinced DH and the district nurse that I would ring first thing Monday if I was no better, but thankfully my temperature was below the magic number then, and has remained so.

Oh and the second wig (my favourite one) hasn't been delivered yet. It was supposed to be dispatched straight away on Thursday afternoon and she says they sometimes arrive next day.

OP posts:
Mischance · 11/11/2025 11:10

Good that temp is down - fingers crossed for wig arrival.

How lovely to have a friend visiting. I am sure she will have no expectations of hospitality and will just be pleased to see you.

Gymnopediegivesmethewillies · 11/11/2025 20:37

I’m glad your temp has dropped a bit, an infection must be on your mind a lot, but your temp dropping suggests you have fought off whatever it was. Hopefully a blip and you’ll get back to improving.

Your friend will just be glad that you have done so well! And to be honest, it’s grotty outside at the moment. Sounds like a time to settle in for a cup of tea and a catch up.

I’m sure your wig is on its way. Bet you look better than you think either way. I’m honestly in awe and so surprised how well you have done overall x

Beautifulsunflowers · 12/11/2025 10:21

I’ve been following your story and not posted up until now.
I just wanted to say that your friend will not care if you spend the day in bed and just catch up! Tell her to bring her PJ’s and cosy socks!!
Really hope your favourite wig arrives soon. then you’ll have a couple to choose from and can mix it up as the mood takes you!
Keep on fighting. I am wishing you lots of love from a tiny corner of my world.

Robogob · 12/11/2025 11:40

Hi, I looked ancient when I was bald and going through chemotherapy. My hair grew back like wire wool and my face looked grey and course. But it wasn’t permanent. Eventually I started coming back to life again. I actually shaved all my hair off after it had grown a few inches and then I got my normal hair growing back. Chemo made me feel like I was teetering on the edge of life. It physically and mentally tortured me. Don’t be swayed by positive chemo stories. It’s ok to admit that you’re struggling. This is your story.

Sending you a restorative hug. X

Enigma54 · 12/11/2025 12:50

@Robogob I’m so glad you shared your chemo experience because what you described, is EXACTLY how I feel today; teetering on the edge of life! It’s horrid.

@Ohjoyohbliss I’m sure your friend will be so glad to see you. Enjoy your catch up and I hope you like your new wigs. They can take a while to get used to, so give it time. Equally, as the weather alters, maybe a nice hat or scarf?

Ohjoyohbliss · 12/11/2025 15:46

@Robogob Thanks for sharing that. When I meet up with people, they usually tell me that I look well. Doesn't really make me feel better.

I think what is frustrating me right now is that I expected after four rounds, to be tolerating the chemo better but, if anything, I feel worse this round than last time. I was sick again yesterday, feel extremely queasy today and I'm struggling with eating again. So fed up of this. DH is starting to get a bit frustrated with me even though he acknowledges that I'm not choosing to be like this and would love not to be.
