Blood test yesterday: Serum CA 125 level over 35 indicates possible cancer. Mine is 213. Shit.

DH knows and one friend but I don't want to worry anyone else until I know how bad it is; hence I've name changed for this post. I'd love to know how anyone else has coped / is coping.

CT scan Saturday and USS on Monday. GP has made 2ww gynae referral today.

Not sure what you mean? I meant I hope that she doesn't have ovarian cancer and that all is well. Have I said something wrong?

You quoted OP’s post that she posted back in July, but if you’d read her posts you would have seen that a lot has happened since then and she’s been diagnosed with lymphoma

Thinking of you both x

Hoping Joy picks up soon. It must be so worrying for you all.

I just came on to say that my son had stage 4 lymphoma a few years ago, and I know this probably won’t help you right now while she’s so poorly, but we found that the first round of chemo was the absolute worst. The tumours dissolve quickly which make you feel dreadful, and the white blood cells are completely wiped out. My son was hospitalised for 11 days with neutropenic sepsis after his first round, but for the next five he was given an injection a few days after the chemo to boost the white blood cells, and he managed to stay out of hospital and infection-free for all the remaining rounds. Obviously he felt awful and had various antibiotics to ward off chest infections etc, but it felt much more manageable once the doctors saw how he responded to the first round. He was also given doxorubicin, but qualified for a heart protectant, and has had no long term heart damage that we can see.

Four years off treatment and he’s in full remission from what was a very aggressive and fast spreading cancer. I hope his story can give you some hope xx

Edited to add that he had 6 cycles of R-CHOP Apparently rituximab has been a game changer in lymphoma treatment.

loulouljh · 08/09/2025 20:32

Wanted to pop on and say my partner had the same diagnosis a good few years ago. Stage 4 too. He's still here fine and well. In fact hes not even checked any more. It was a tough time at the time but now a distant memory. Hang in there.

MolluscMonday · 08/09/2025 20:33

Thinking of you Joy (and DH!)- hope they get it under control quickly and you’re back home soon x

loulouljh · 08/09/2025 20:33

Partner also had R-CHOP.

Ebeneser · 08/09/2025 19:06

Do standard blood tests check for CA125, or is it a specific one?

I think you specifically need ca125. I think it helps to understand what markers they are looking for which isnt looked at with standard bloodtests.

Spaglasagneaise · 08/09/2025 20:37

Also....best wishes to the OP and her family

Flamingmentalcats · 08/09/2025 20:37

Joy's DH here
Joy picked up an infection and was readmitted Saturday night. On IV antibiotics and fluids, slowly improving but still very poorly.

I’m so sorry to hear this. I’ve just read the full thread. Best wishes to Joy and to you.
