My 86 year old mother has been in hospital having tests and she has some cancer lumps on her liver , they say that's it's not the primary one and it's somewhere else.having a full scan Monday to see where else it is.im absolutely heartbroken. I've not long since I lost my dad , just wondering if anyone else parents have been through the same thing and how long they got given to live.

I am sorry to hear your news. This won’t be what you want to hear but please remember everyone’s everyone’s journey is so different. Mum was diagnosed with secondary liver cancer at 60 and died within a couple of months. I hope things are different for your Mum X

I am so sorry to read this- I hope you have support

Janus · 24/03/2025 20:32

Oh no, I’m so sorry to read this, how heartbreaking for you. Is there any treatment offered? You poor thing x

StJamesInfirmary · 24/03/2025 20:58

Ah gosh I'm really sorry to read that. What's her prognosis. My DF was diagnosed and then died 7 weeks later but he had another condition that probably made his demise much quicker and was on palliative care rather than treatment. I really hope your mum gets the care she needs.

TealSwan · 25/03/2025 17:23

She's still in untill the doctors have a discussion about what stage etc and prognosis. originally she went in with a swollen knee herblood test threw stuff up. She's also got a blood clot on her lung. So don't know anything else yet but I'm absolutely devastated.

TealSwan · 25/03/2025 17:24

They also think she has dementia but she's sharp at a button.

TealSwan · 26/03/2025 14:44

Now she has gout in her knee/ leg .they have also asked about a DNR but she was out of it due to her medication she's on.😭

I’m in my 40’s and had primary breast cancer in 2020 and diagnosed with secondary cancer in my liver in 2023, I have teenage children, so was terrified when I was diagnosed, but two years later I sm still on my first line treatment (oral chemo and hormone therapy ) and I’m doing good. My oncologist tells me no cure at present, but he plans to keep me alive as long as possible. So try not to get ahead of yourself, wait for the treatment plan etc. my motto is don’t think just do. Sending love and positive thoughts x

Janus · 28/03/2025 13:14

It must seem like one thing after another. I hope your mum is more comfortable today and the medications are wearing off a bit so she’s a bit more awake x

TealSwan · 28/03/2025 14:51

The doctors have told us it's stage 4 and they aren't doing any treatment etc. so hopefully home next week she also will have to get carers in..

OP posts:
TealSwan · 30/03/2025 11:28

Unfortunately doctors etc have decided on no treatment. We don't know how long she has left they couldn't tell us that.my poor mum 😭💔

So sorry OP. How is your mum in herself? Have you had any referrals to palliative care? Worth getting in touch with her GP when she gets home if the hospital haven't done thar but they should do really

madamegazelle1 · 30/03/2025 20:25

I’m sorry to read this. Is she still going home this week? If she is I hope she has the care she needs and you have support.

She just says it is what it is and it won't change got took to another hospital because her bowel movements was black so supposed to be having a camera down to see what's what hopefully getting carers set up before she leaves hospital.

They are fast tracking her home so having to sort out ppl coming in to help her and get a hospital bed etc... totally heartbreaking 💔 she made her wishes regarding no CPR and wants a dignified peaceful death.

OP posts:
madamegazelle1 · 01/04/2025 08:01

When Mum was poorly I realised how your wishes suddenly change- our hope was that she could stay at home as long as she wanted, with the right equipment and to have her pain managed well. I hope things go smoothly arranging for your Mum coming home

TealSwan · 03/04/2025 17:04

She's going g to be going to a nursing home for 24 hour care as a fast track from the hospital.shes gone downhill fast not eating drinking and sleeping loads. When I was leaving hospital today she grabbed my arm and said you know I haven't got long , but I've had a good life I'm tired and I just want to go now 💔😭. Left in floods of tears.
