Likely breast cancer after ultrasound

Hi all after routine mammogram I was referred for an ultrasound, which I had today and the radiologist said it's likely a cancer, thus did a few core biopsies. I did not know that cancer could be detected at ultrasound stage but she was pretty certain it was cancer and said the biopsies were to see what they were dealing with. Has anyone else had this? Thank you

Is that a week to wait, Sauvignon? That's hard- could you press for an earlier appointment?

AlwaysALargeSauvignonBlanc · 27/03/2025 15:48

Yep - a week today.

This last 9 days since clinic appointment has been awful. The 11 before that waiting for clinic appointment was awful.

PemberleynotWemberley · 27/03/2025 17:29

Yes that must be really messing with your head, but I'd like to think if they were properly worried they would be asking you to come in more urgently. No good advising you to put it out of your mind, though!

AlwaysALargeSauvignonBlanc · 27/03/2025 17:48

Thanks @PemberleynotWemberley.
I called and asked for an earlier appointment but this is the earliest they have.
I have asked to me called if one comes up sooner as I can be flexible with work 🤞🏼

dancingwhilstfacingthemusic · 27/03/2025 18:13

What a nightmare @AlwaysALargeSauvignonBlanc I hope something sooner comes up for you and that there will be good news.

TheHonourablePenelopeBuntyWindermere · 28/03/2025 19:31

Can I ask how long others had to keep their dressings on ? I got pressure dressings underneath each boob and they’d said to keep them on until I see the breast care nurse for a wound check but now I’m doubting if I remembered right as that will be 10 days post op ! I was discharged the same day so was still a bit hazy following the anaesthetic. I had wide local excision, mammaplasty reconstruction and sentinel lymph node removal.

spartanrunnergirl · 28/03/2025 20:14

Hi @TheHonourablePenelopeBuntyWindermereI hope you are feeling ok post.. I has WLE and SNB and had my dressings on for 10 days until I next saw the consultant.

Post op! That should say 😁 @TheHonourablePenelopeBuntyWindermere

Thanks @spartanrunnergirl . Sounds like I have remembered correctly then. Desperate for a proper wash and starting to itch a bit in places. I’ve got a couple of numb patches too and the bruising has really come out today !! They’ve used dissolvable stitches and glue so really looking forward to having dressings off and a decent shower without the bin bag poncho am I’m to use at the moment in the shower !!
Im doing ok, felt pants this morning and washed out but had an easy day. Doing my exercises !!

spartanrunnergirl · 28/03/2025 20:29

Yes you must do the exercises! I am still numb back of my upper arm on ‘bad cop’ boob side… seems to be very common after this surgery. We do heal quickly but it’s still frustrating when you want to have a proper wash! Take care and look after yourself while you recover.

Might have to treat myself to some extra nice shower gel to use when I can finally have a proper wash ! I do have quite a few points on my Boots loyalty card burning a hole in my pocket !!

Hello, can I join you all? I’ve been reading through the thread, I’m sorry you’re all in this too.

I was diagnosed a few weeks ago and I’m scheduled for surgery on Friday. IDC ++-, grade 3, 42yo. I’m having the tumour plus my nipple removed as I have pre-cancerous calcifications just underneath so it’s got to go! 😭 Has anyone here had a similar procedure with an “anchor” scar? I’d be interested to know how much time you had off work to recover if you don’t mind sharing.

Adding insult to injury I managed to come down with a cold last week so I’ve been trying to rest as much as possible in order to kick it before Friday. 🤞Incredibly annoying as I was hoping to get as much normal life squeezed in before this shitshow starts! Ah well.

StartupRepair · 29/03/2025 19:50

Welcome @MonOncle . It's a lovely supportive group here, where none of us expected to be. Really good luck for Friday and hope you manage to kick the cold before then.

spartanrunnergirl · 29/03/2025 20:25

Hi @MonOnclewelcome to the shitty club of awesome women! I hope you’re coping ok in the run up to surgery, an anxious time for sure. I took quite a bit of time off for my mental wellbeing tbh, physical recovery was pretty quick, but my surgery was I think more straightforward.

I’ve had a bit of a week of it. I’m on this thread as I’m on the other side (🤞) and have been able to offer what I hope is helpful advice but two weeks ago my 26 year old daughter had to have a biopsy and didn’t tell me because she knew I’d struggle 😟. The positive side of this is that she mentioned immediately to GP that mum had had BC so they didn’t quibble with referring her. Even at ultrasound, the hospital decided to double check so I’m grateful for that. She got the all clear yesterday. The thought that I might somehow be responsible for my child having cancer is hideous. When I had breast cancer five years ago, my youngest was 8 years old (he is also SN). That felt bad enough. My eldest going through that fear has sent me over the edge. I have been waiting for the appointment for my five year mammo. I was diagnosed 3 days before the first lockdown and had my surgery on lockdown day. My whole treatment was over the pandemic. On Friday I got a call out of the blue asking me to attend a mammo on the 31st. I didn’t grasp that that was Monday. I have decided to cancel it until after Easter hols. I feel so stressed about what has happened recently that I don’t want to do it. I also don’t want it hanging over me. I have a stressful school based 1-1 role with a high needs child and I need to be able to chill over the Easter break. Last year my results took 6 weeks to be sent to me. I’m thinking that a couple of weeks won’t make any material difference and I’m not able to deal with it right now. Five years is an important milestone but I just can’t right now. I just needed to sound off, thank you for listening!

Welcome. I had HER2 positive IDC. You’ll be ok when you have a plan going forward. I suspect similar to mine which was chemo and radio plus Herceptin. We’re here for you Flowers

spartanrunnergirl · 30/03/2025 07:54

Oh @TheFormidableMrsCi ache for you. It’s terrifying to think about our children having to go through this. I’m so glad your daughter is ok and I imagine you are feeling distressed at her going it alone. I have a 27 yo daughter and I have little panics about her and BC .. no (known) gene in our family but my mum and aunt had 2x BC each, now me and I worry for my girl.

I think moving the mammo for your mental health is ok and a few weeks won’t make a difference. Xx

Thanks for your kind words. I’ve today rearranged it for the day after the Easter weekend. Daughter is fine and dealt with it all a lot better than I did when she told me! I am the only person in my family to have had BC and I’m absolutely convinced that it was caused by meds (not HRT and that’s another story). They did tell me that daughter wouldn’t be at increased risk because I was over 50 🤷🏻‍♀️. However I am extremely relieved she was not just dismissed and was treated as well as she was. I hope your daughter never has to worry about it 🤞

I hope everybody is doing ok!

AlwaysALargeSauvignonBlanc · 01/04/2025 16:26

I'm so glad your daughter is OK @TheFormidableMrsC . I can't imagine one of my girls being in the place I am in now. I can see why she didn't tell you though. Bless her.

I have 3 daughters so this is another question I've added to my list for Thursday.

AlwaysALargeSauvignonBlanc · 03/04/2025 20:03

So I am officially part of the club …

Invasive Ductal, can’t remember the rest. Believe to be grade 2.

I need to have a lymph node biopsy next week, followed my surgery and radiotherapy.

Dependant on the outcome of the lymph node biopsy, there may be more to the plan but these are the definite as of today.

spartanrunnergirl · 03/04/2025 20:35

Oh bugger @AlwaysALargeSauvignonBlancI’m really sorry to hear this. I hope you are doing ok, lots of emotions I’m sure. I was invasive ductal grade 2 also. Xx

StartupRepair · 03/04/2025 20:38

Oh bugger indeed. Hope the plan becomes clear soon - then it is just that one day at a time lark we all know so well.

TheFormidableMrsC · 03/04/2025 20:46

@AlwaysALargeSauvignonBlancSo sorry to hear. Same diagnosis as me too. As is so often said here, you’ll feel so much better when you’ve got a plan and know what you’re dealing with. In the meantime, listen to your BCN, your surgeon and don’t look on bloody Google. It’s full of things that are not relevant to you. Deep breaths Flowers

dancingwhilstfacingthemusic · 03/04/2025 21:36

Oh crap @AlwaysALargeSauvignonBlanc sorry to hear this. It does sound like they’re getting moving quickly for you, so hopefully things become clearer sooner.

@TheFormidableMrsC really pleased to hear your daughter is ok.

AlwaysALargeSauvignonBlanc · 04/04/2025 16:09

Thanks everyone.

@TheFormidableMrsC & @spartanrunnergirl do you mind me asking how your treatment has panned out ? Did you have lymph node involvement ? Was it surgery then radiotherapy ?
