I’m sure that’s so scary to hear but probably not as scary as what you’ve been thinking.

Really hoping it all goes well.

Very good luck with the operation.

Don’t Google - but do know that if you’re young it makes a very huge difference.

You’re in my thoughts xx

Scentedjasmin · 08/10/2024 22:33

My step father has cancer that is treatable but not (yet) curable. The advances in medical science at the moment are very fast moving. My stepdad was the first person to be offered a new drug combination which had been proven in clinical trials to reduce life expectancy by an additional 50%. The treatment had only been licensed weeks earlier. Whenever I have looked into new treatments online, the UK really is quick off the mark to offer the latest treatments and drugs. Every few months new treatments emerge. When you think about HIV, it's not curable either, but in the Weston world the life expectancy with treatment is virtually the same as those without it. People are living longer and longer with cancer, which is now why they talk about 'living with cancer'. Every treatment that offers a little more time buys a little more hope. Definitely do not google. The stats will be horribly out of date and likely won't differentiate between tumour types, age categories and will be based on studies that are already outdated and meaningless. If you are going to google, focus on new treatment breakthroughs as that will be more relevant.
Thinking of you xx

Oh and brain surgery today has also come a very long way. A friend of mine had some surgery and was back home 2 days later and back to work within a couple of weeks.

Weenurse · 08/10/2024 23:08

brainfoggyandtired · 08/10/2024 23:25

Oh @Wells37 I am so sorry you are going through this. I can't imagine how you must be feeling. Shock and fear I guess. I'm so glad that the medics are taking this seriously and that you'll be in surgery asap. That's amazing. But also a big thing in its self. Please contact Maggies or your local cancer charity for help before your surgery as they can give you, your partner and your children vital support and therapy as you go through this. Sending you much love. You're not alone.
