Hi @Wells37 You might want to check out Prof Richard Scolyer on Instagram. Some very positive news re immunotherapy. Worth a look and worth sharing with your doctors. Potentially same frontal lobe tumor.

Thinking of you and hoping for some positive news today. Sending hugs xxx

SeulementUneFois · 08/10/2024 12:24

OP
No direct help but just to give you hope.
My father (and now brother too) was a neurosurgeon, and in a much poorer country in Europe. Just remembering conversations from 30 years ago - it's amazing what they can do...! Don't lose hope! (And assuming you have an operation etc, follow the medical advice for afterwards to a t.)

Sophie Kinsella was on women's hour this morning talking about her glioblastoma diagnosis 2 years ago.

Op listening to her may be helpful to you atm. X

EachandEveryone · 08/10/2024 18:19

Op hasn’t been told what kind of tumour yet I don’t think? Thinking of you and hoping you get a treatment plan in place asap. I too have cancer and this is the hardest part xxx

Wells37 · 08/10/2024 18:53

It's treatable but not curable. Surgery in 2 to 3 weeks time. They are going straight for full surgery without doing a biopsy first rather than put me through 2 surgeries. I signed the consent form today. Just need to wait for pre assessment and psychologists appointment.
Then once they now exactly what it is probably chemotherapy. Due to where it is in the right it's probably some sort of glioblastoma ( not sure if that's right spelling but I'm not googling!)
I was completely fine for the scan but completely panic before the appointment.
They have said it's really important not to google as I'm young and fit and there lots of different types and my stats aren't on google.
Cooking tea it feels completely surreal. Sat and cuddled the kids while dh told them about the surgery.

All the very best for the surgery!

I know from your posts that you are surrounded by a loving family, but if ever it may help, please also know there are many of us ‘MN strangers’ who are completely rooting for you!

Wishing you a speedy treatment and recovery.

With love to you and your family!!!!

CarrotsAndCheese · 08/10/2024 19:07

That's really good that they are going to remove as much of it as they can in one go. Yes, I would follow their advice re not googling. I'm sure they will give you more bespoke information after they have looked at the tumour under the microscope, or however they do it. Everyone is unique. Everyone here is thinking of you and wishing you and your family the very best outcome 💐

ETA: it's also in your favour that you are being treated so soon after your symptoms began.

BettyBardMacDonald · 08/10/2024 19:12

Glad you are getting some answers and a plan.

They are completely sensible about googling. Medical science is changing rapidly and new cancer drugs are constantly being created or finding new targets.

My sister was diagnosed with incurable breast cancer 7.5 years ago; the doctor cried at their appointment and basically told her (age 52) to get her affairs in order. Actually she has been on an oral med, no chemotherapy. She hasn't been cured but routine scans show no more metasteses. We don't know what the future holds but she has had a very good seven years with lots of travel, etc.

The statistics change as more and more people survive, so take heart. And the new mRNA anti-cancer drugs are showing great promise against brain tumors this year (in experimental studies).

Best wishes.

spiderlight · 08/10/2024 19:19

I'm glad they're going to just take it straight out and not put you through two procedures. Thinking of you and your family this evening.

Partridgewell · 08/10/2024 19:19

Best of luck for your treatment OP.

whiskeyarmadillo · 08/10/2024 19:21
